Hotel Balatura is a magical veggie hidden treasure that I would highly recommend to all, even though I secretly want to keep it for myself! The location is stunning and quiet and the hotel is a beautifully preserved historic building from Gordon's ancestry. Gordon and the team make you feel like family as soon as you arrive. Our room was upgraded and dinner was ready for us whenever we wanted it, which was appreciated after a long day traveling. Tanya the chef created the most incredible vegetarian feasts, which we devoured. The breakfasts were also hearty and healthy and especially lovely enjoyed out in the courtyard. You can tell that the hotel and menu is made with passion and love, which makes this place so damn special. Gordon was always around for a chat and to give you tourism advice. Such a funny, friendly person! We felt so happy and relaxed and didn't want to leave. We cannot wait to return one day to see the hotel turned into a village! Truly one of the best places I've ever stayed, which is saying alot. …
We spent a relaxing and enjoyable time at Hotel Balatura. Very charming surroundings and positive atmosphere, looking out at stars and Croatian mountains. The owners and also one of their sons were very helpful and sympathetic, and same goes for the whole staff. Good vegetarian food, and a 15 minutes drive to some nice places to swim and jump in the sea. The swimming pool is not yet finished, but the place where this will be built, already looks promising.
Hotel Balatura is the best place so far in my Croatian visit. this is eco friendly hotel with lots of comfort and great ambiance. Rooms are clean and cosy. beautiful view from balcony with hammock. the home made food. such a healthy and delicious breakfast as well the dinner. the host is an mazing guy who travel around few countries. They do organise Yoga and mediation retreats. this is the best place for family of coupe for blissful stay.
A small place just a few minutes by car off the coast. Very high standard of the rooms. Very nice, friendly and helpful hosts, But the highlight is the food. The dishes served (there is only one set menu: starter+main+dessert) convince as well non-vegetarians. The way it is prepared, presented on the plate, the quality, but most importantly the taste is amazing! They will even accommodate small adjustments for other dietary restrictions, vegans etc. Thank you Natasha (great chef) and the rest of the team for your efforts! I will always come back.
This was the highlight of our holiday to Croatia. AMAZING. The chef is outstanding and also lovey to chat to. The family who run the hotel were brilliant, such a warm welcome. The father is the waiter at night, his wife in the morning and their delightful daughter was working there as part of her studies. We stayed in the Lavender Suite which was just perfect. We ate in th courtyard each evening - when the food is this good why go anywhere else. I can't wait to go back.
Love this hotel. Actually, calling it a hotel is not proper as it is really small. Simple details give its actual character... The furniture, common spaces and the breakfast are all special. The owners and staff are very friendly and helpful. Recommend to anyone who wishes to stay away from touristic places.
This is a really beautiful special place, with well appointed rooms with friendly owners, Gordon and Anne-Kathrin, and staff led by the delightful character, Stojan and his family and the chef, Natasha! We really liked the conversion of the 300 year old farmhouse and we had a cavernous bathroom with a sunken shower carved out of stone and with mosaic. The food is delicious, tending towards vegan at dinner but with local cheeses and eggs at breakfast. We found it yummy as well as healthy. As a vegetarian, I felt better for eating less dairy - something to think about. We were a large family group taking over the place and the experience of staying there was amazing. Ann-Kathrin and Gordon supplied us with guides and suggestions for places to go and we enjoyed coming back to our hammocks on the balcony. This was our first visit to Croatia and it is such a beautiful country, the coastline is stunning. We would definitely recommend this place and hope to come back.…
If you are looking for a place to relax, simply enjoy the scenery and great food, this is the right choice! There are many things to do in the area, from hikes to beaches - you name it. The staff was excellent and very carring. I highly recommend it!
The structure is beautiful and very well restored, the rooms are confortable and in general the quality of your stay in this hotel is very high for the Croatian standards.....but.......the claning of the rooms and of the bathromms is not always impeccable..............the breakfast is not so rich and is disturbed by hundreds of wasps..........the serrvice is too familiar and not professional.......the place is a bit over priced for what you get...... But anyway is still the best place to stay of the entire area.......
Hotel Balatura has so much to recommend it! Situated in the quiet village of Tribalj, inland not far from Rijeka, this is a truly delightful retreat. The owners who also oversaw every aspect of the conversion of this 400-year old property into an exquisite, boutique hotel, are Gordon and Anne-Kathrin - an extremely-welcoming Croat-German couple. They run this heavenly place with the assistance of their five boys, and a local team including the marvellous Kristina, who came up with lots of suggestions of places to visit, including a great fish restaurant near Opatija. The hotel is extremely comfortable, yet maintains a true rustic look, which adds to the charm. Our roomy bathroom was kitted out with a sunken bath/shower tub, and a real stone basin. The products were true boutique hotel - Prija - and smelt gorgeous. The king size bed was extremely comfortable, with quality bed linen. Towels were also wonderfully thick, and bath sheet size. There is no air-conditioning, but this is not needed. The thick original walls, together with powerful fan ensured the bedroom stayed cool enough all night, making summertime sleep no problem at all. There is a lovely little courtyard where a substantial, tasty buffet breakfast is taken. This same space is used for dinner: each night a delicious 3 course meal is prepared using local ingredients, and can be accompanied by a choice of local wines. This is a really attractive setting in which to spend an evening, and is also very reasonably priced indeed. There in on-site parking included, complimentary wifi (although you need to be in the courtyard or front of the hotel to use it because of the thickness of the walls throughout the building) and books you can borrow and read in the comfortable chairs in the small garden at the back. This really is somewhere to escape to when you want to get away from it all. We wished we were staying longer and already want to come back.…
