We had great time in Mpelleiko. The rooms are very comfortable , the garden and balconies + the fantastic view offered us an intimate and most relaxing experience. Nena, our host, welcomed us so warmly and made us great home made breakfast , and we felt at home and did not want to go !! we defiantly would come again !

I read about the giant white cat at Mpelleiko and Psipsinos (roughly translated as "Puss") didn't disappoint. A great purr, loves a stroke and sat in the morning sun overlooking his domain, the beautiful little town of Stemnitsa. Nena, his charismatic owner, let me feed Psipsinos his morning fish. Psipsinos is fed well at breakfast, and so was I, with a moreish oven-baked cheese omelette, homemade preserves and healthy granola with a choice of two types of fresh yoghurt. Nena even packed up the leftovers for me to eat on my way back to Athens Airport. I was fortunate to stay here. All the other guests had cancelled owing to the national lockdown Greece introduced that day. Nena took this in her stride. She knows that tourists will return to her characterful guesthouse. It's not like any other, and one of the best that I've stayed in across more than 100 countries. And not just because of the cat.

Ofcourse, we had to return to Mpelleiko! It took us nine years, but, we made it back and we were not disappointed!! This is such a warm and cosy traditional guesthouse. We loved it then and we loved it now. Perched on the hillside, above the lovely village of Stemnitsa, with the view of all the orange rooftops and with the large, warm and beautiful traditional rooms inside, this is a great choice for those wanting to stay in the area. What always made it extra special for us, though, was the amazing hospitality of the owner , Nena. Not only is she warm and friendly and helpful, she also prepares, undoubtedly, the best breakfasts ever, using fresh produce from her garden or the forest when it comes to mushroms for the omelettes. Sitting in the kitchen/dining area, with the view of the village below, a hot cup of coffee in hand and a table full of delicious goodies fror breakfast, one cannot wish for a better place to stay while experiencing the beauty of this mountain region. There is alot to see and do, so staying for a few nights is advisable. Apart from the Monastery of Timiou Prodromou which we always like to visit ( an 800m walk) and the beauty of the Lousios Gorge, there are many picturesque villages nearby which are definitely worth a visit; Dimitsana for a good meal, Karytaina with Alfeios River nearby and the old chapel under the new bridge, Andritsaina with the lovely square where one can have coffee under a huge platanos tree, next to the oldest fountain of the Peloponnese and last but not least, the AMAZING TEMPLE OF EPIKOURIOS APOLLON. Mpelleiko, all is beautiful, warm , peaceful and even the flowers in the garden are happy!!! We definitely recommend and we hope to return, ourselves, for a 3rd visit, in less than 9 years this time.

Thoroughly enjoyed an albeit too short (2 night) stay, Everything about this place was superb. Our room and the common area were clean, neat and very comfortable. There is a great view from the common area/breakfast room and some of the guest rooms. The homemade breakfast was different each day (except for the fresh baked bread) and absolutely delicious. The area around Stemnitsa is really quite stunning and very quiet when we were there in Sept. The nearby Lousios Gorge with its monasteries is definitely worth a hike or walk depending on what you are up for. The best part about the stay was the hostess Nena who was friendly, attentive, helpful, and a great source of information about the area. Everything you could possibly hope for in a hostess. It felt very much like we were staying with a friend! Would love to stay there again....but this time for more than just 2 nights.
