Detailed Reviews
Te Vakaroa Villas are the epitome of class and luxury accomodations. The grounds are beautifully landscaped, the friendly service from Rick and Poko and his staff is fantastic , The Villas are the finest in Rarotonga. The location is spectacular the best on the Island for everything you may need for grocery needs or restaurant locations. We spent another wonderful week in Jan 2020 with family and friends. We are planning to make an annual visit from here out to Te Vakaroa Villas, the gem of Roratonga. Rick even helped me wrap up my new 8 string Ukelele for travel back home. We will definitely be back in March 2021. Steve and LuAnn Johnsen

"Located in the heart of Rarotonga, this property offers the quintessential island experience. With its pristine beach boasting warm, inviting waters, it truly embodies paradise. Each villa provides breathtaking views, ensuring every moment is picture-perfect.
The staff's hospitality surpassed our expectations. Despite our late arrival due to a flight delay, Nick warmly welcomed us and guided us to our spacious 2-bedroom villa, perfectly accommodating our family of four.
Throughout our stay, the property's upkeep was impeccable, allowing everyone to find their own serene space, whether lounging on the beach or by the pool. It provided the ideal setting for us to disconnect from the chaos of everyday life, offering a truly relaxing retreat.
As seasoned travelers, having explored numerous islands across the globe, we confidently recommend this hidden gem. Its intimate, personalized atmosphere sets it apart from larger resorts, aligning perfectly with our preference for a more authentic experience. Booking here guarantees an unforgettable getaway; you won't be disappointed."

+1
Absolutely gorgeous 5 star luxury yet comfortable and homely stay in a superbly well appointed villa from the minute you step in the front door through to the lounge, outdoor seating area and then the pool and finally the lagoon views!
We booked this through a travel agent and arrived after a nice but not as described "luxury" stay in Aitutaki and were so pleased with the villa I actually checked with Poko that we had the right accomodation :)
The AC is excellent, the bed very comfy with good quality bed linen and the daily breakfast delivered to the villa was lovely. We had to ask for smaller portions!
There is noise from Captain Tamas next door that we noticed some reviews mention, between 10 and 11am if you are by the pool but we enjoyed listening to the live music as they got the tour groups ready to leave and it makes a nice backgound music to my holiday video of the pool and villas :)
The villa, pool and grounds are exceptionally well maintianed by lovely, friendly staff and Helen was a joy to meet each morning.
We were very conviently located for the night market (just follow your nose as Poko told us) about 100 m, the resorts on either side are handy for booking dinner and Sails next door is convenient for drinks and good meal too.
We loved that it was a small resort with limited guests which made is so much more private and personable and were sorry to leave.
The only thing we missed was a short guide in the villa to help us plan as we only found out from other guests that we could get a voucher for free kayak hire next door, which we did. Going over to the island in the lagoon, where they water is much clearer as its sheltered from the tide/waves, was grear and we saw lots of shoals of fish jumping/flying through the air!
Our stay here made our holiday, thank you.

My friends and stayed at the villas for one week.
Upon check out we were told airport transfers aren’t included and need to be paid for, $50 per person. We were absolutely shocked. Having travelled to the Cook Islands multiple times I am aware all Accommodation includes transfers. This was an unbelievable attempt by the hotel to rip us off. The manager Poko was so rude about it and then proceeded to tell us if we didn’t pay she would have to pay for it out of her pocket. Which was a complete lie and a further attempt to make us pay. Regrettably with very limited time to spare (our bags already in the transfer car) before needing to catch our flight we paid the money. I am furious we paid for it in hindsight as it was a complete gouging.
I don’t mind paying for anything if I know prior and I agree too it. This was a complete trick to get us to pay.... shameful.
The accommodation it self is nice but it is getting worn and tired. Not 5 star and not for the price. The reception or “service” is laughable. No one is ever there nor do they pick up the phone. We had a leaking air conditioner which got fixed on our last day...a week after advising them.
The pool spa isn’t working. Nor does it appear it will be.
The website also offers free car rental if you stay for a week. Not true, once we asked about it. Get one night free if you stay a week. Also not true.
Honestly stay somewhere else... the owners/manger are dishonest people who will attempt to rip you off if they can.

Kia Orana, As a means to respond it is clear this report on our property is nothing more than 'sour grapes' from unappreciative guests who booked on a deal thru Expedia then wanted a number of inclusions that were not part of the original discounted rates provided. In all correspondence with these clients ( as we do with all clients ) we advise at time of first contact that transfers are available at a cost. To suggest otherwise is to show ignorance of actual communications transmitted. Upgrading and ,modernising with new expensive interior furnishings has recently been carried out and we pride ourselves on maintaining a smart modern décor and surroundings. Simply check out the many great reports we continue to receive.. While there was a problem with the air conditioning, which I apologise for, we attempted a number of times to have our contractor attend to this smartly but without success. Everyone is welcome to their input and we appreciate positive critism but angry dribble is just that. Kia Manuia Des Eggelton Owner.

We happened upon Te Vakaroa villas while walking along Muri beach. Unhappy with our current choice of accommodation, we checked availability and were so fortunate and delighted that we could spend the last three days of our holiday here. These villas are absolutely perfect for a luxury stay right on the beach. Beautifully appointed with all the amenities you need and a very comfortable bed. Breakfast of cereal, croissants and fruit was brought to our room every morning. We had a one bedroom villa on the ground floor and enjoyed our time relaxing by the beautiful pool and lagoon. The staff were all lovely and a credit to the management. Nick the owner was fantastic to deal with and came to our rescue when our transportation to the airport failed to arrive and he very kindly drove us there himself. We highly recommend these villas and will definitely come back and stay here again.

Very spacious and comfortable with everything you need to be self catering supplied. Great location. The staff were very friendly and efficient. The sunrise, delicious breakfast tray, heated pool and view over the beach makes Te Vakaroa Villas a premier holiday home !

Absolutely the best villas on the island. Terrific location and wonderful lagoon views from every room. We stayed in a two bedroom villa with a family of four. Plenty of space, two levels and classy fit out. Lovely breakfast delivered every morning and plenty of restaurants walking distance up and down the beach to choose from for lunch and dinner. We priced two rooms at nearby resorts for our family but they were old and in need of a refurb. Te Vakaroa Villas are well maintained and very classy! Nick, Poko, Helen and the boys looked after us the entire time making sure our rooms were well cleaned and the premises spotless. Shame the surrounding accommodation couldn't boast the same standard! Most definitely would recommend this place to anyone thinking of going to the Cook Islands. Thanks for a wonderful stay.

We stayed at a two bedroom villa at the Te Vakaroa Villas in June 2024. What an elegant and wonderful boutique resort. Perfect location right on Muri Lagoon, near some restaurants, grocery stores, activities and some other nice resorts (The Pacific is next door). Te Vakaroa is very well run, led by owner Nick and a very capable and friendly staff. Our villa was spacious, with two big bedroom suites, modern kitchen and large living room. I was pleasantly surprised by the two floors (bedrooms upstairs) which provided great views.
We really enjoyed the large pool and the paddle boards, which we used daily on the Muri Lagoon right outside.

Stayed for 10 days in 2 bedroom villa which was great. Location was amazing right on Muri lagoon close to some great spots for lunch, dinner & drinks. All staff were very friendly & helpful
The only negative was tourist operator Captain Tamas right next door. Staff had their loud stereo going for most the day which ruined the quiet poolside atmosphere. Worse was the daily drinking sessions 5-8pm attended by 10-20 drunk locals & accompanied by the same very loud stereo 80’s hits & rap for hours in the evening very disrespectful & unpleasant for our family of 4

Kia Orana Tim Thank you for your review which are always appreciated and considered helpful, good or bad. I am very sorry this occurred to you and your family. Unfortunately I was away overseas visiting my seriously unwell mother and believe my office manager Poko went to Captain Tamas to ask for some respite which was obviously ignored. I believe this problem should have been taken to another level and had I been there it would have been shutdown immediately as they are aware of the agreement we both have, just inconsiderate and frankly disappointing. I have spoken to Captian Tama about this review and hopefully this will be an end to such behaviour in the future. Sometimes outside influences just ruin all our hard work and I am deeply apologetic for any annoyance your suffered. I would love to have you stay again and would appreciate it if you ever wish to return to call me and I will make sure you are very well looked after. I hope you have a very nice Xmas and New Year with family and friends. Kindest regards Nick Reeves

What an incredibly beautiful and scenic spot to spend our weeks holiday. The rooms are clean, styled beautifully and have great ammenities which made our stay comfortable. It truly felt like our home on the island, especially with the friends we made in the other villas. The pool and spa were perfect during the day and night to wind down in. You can’t beat the location! The amazing Sails restaurant next door was so handy, and you have many activities to choose from right on the beach. Couldn’t recommend this place enough! We will be back very soon and can’t wait!

Ha ha ha we’ve just come back from the hotel. You’ll never get a response! And if you do it won’t make sense. Worst service ever. We emailed to no avail also ....should have been a red flag. My Tip - book something else.
Kia Orana,
A Boat could be available for renting but generally only the ‘fishing type’ with no real comfort features.
There is really no way that you could live on a boat in our lagoon although day use would be possible.

Kia Orana,
Te Vakaroa Villas is central on Muri Beach with kite surfing immediately in front of the property --- simply straight onto the beach from the resort. Rumours location and beach does not allow kite surfing since lagoon is too shallow with a lot of coral.
