This hotel is not too accessible by foot especially if you just landed, and reviving from motion sickness. If you are game to take their public transport, take the yellow van. Tell them u want to go Aston. They may sent u to the doorstep, pay them rp6000 if they do sent u to the door of Aston, else normal ride is just rp5000. There is a pool which I will not swim in, cause the color does not look appealing. The design of the building is weird, the pool level can’t access to the ground floor. Since it is such a big hotel we were expecting better breakfast, the breakfast was quite a disappointment, we went at 9am and most of the food looks like it is finishing, they are very slow in topping up the food and food may run out by 9 am. Suppose to have from 6am to 10 am. There is a massage place nearby, rp60000 for an hour. Don’t expect super good skill but still helps to relax the muscles. Do Explore the place at night to look for food:)

This Aston Karimun Hotel is also locally called Palimas. This is a bigger hotel which is capable of serving bigger groups and functions. Room is spacious but of bare minimal in-room amenities. Room and bedsheets are clean. Wifi isn’t fast and laggy. Room view faces the town and further afield you can also see the sea. A larger sized supermarket is just across the hotel. There are not many food and shops nearby as compared to those nearer to the ferry terminal. Hotel has a pool, gym, ktv etc. Breakfast served was below average, nothing much for a buffet and we had to ask the staff for more food. My only peeve was that the cotton buds provided were opened (partially used) and thats poor housekeeping. Generally not a bad hotel just the location is not so convenient unless you have a car/motorcycle. I probably won’t return to this hotel given there are many other options to choose from.

I was here for work and, although people are really nice and friendly the level of service is still below average. The rooms were often dirty and something was always broken. It has improved a lot recently but both the island and the hotel don't have much to offer.

I'm going to write a very honest review about this hotel. I need to preface by saying that in my whole life of traveling to over 40 countries and 100+ cities, I've never ever switched hotels because I am generally tolerant towards minor issues occurring in accommodations. Aston Karimun is the very first hotel I had requested a refund on for my subsequent night, and moved to another hotel. Aston Karimun is the largest hotel on Pulau Karimun Besar. It's a fairly decent 4-star hotel with a gym, pool, numerous restaurants including a nice sky bar. My overall rating for the hotel would have been quite good (hence 2 stars instead of 1on this review) but for the fact that: 1. There is a discotheque and karaoke lounge on the 2nd floor which plays extremely loud music until 3am (very very loud so much so the pillows on my bed on the highest floor - 6th floor - were vibrating and I couldn't sleep even with ear plugs) and 2. All the staff refused to admit the music was coming from within the hotel, and gave m dishonest responses about the discotheque. One said the sound was from beside the hotel, another said it was from opposite the building (which didn't make sense because that was a supermarket). I found out because by chance I took a lift that advertised the discotheque and I went to the 2nd floor myself to investigate. While the staff volunteered to change my room for me, they could not guarantee that I would not have the same level of disturbance the second night - after I confronted them about the discotheque - and so I actually switched hotels for the second night. When I spoke to the front desk manager on duty about this, she apologised for the noise but simply said "but we are an entertainment hotel", to which I replied there's no harm in that provided you can ensure your original business ie. of being a hotel is not disrupted. My recommendation is to avoid this hotel at all costs - there are smaller and cheaper but much quieter alternatives along the seafront next to the pier. Even if you get a "quieter" room on the right side of the hotel, there's still bound to be disturbances at night because of the sheer volume of the music, and because the disco spans nearly the whole of level 2 and woe be those who pay top dollar for the suites on level 2.

I've visited this hotel frequently 2 years ago, however due to work was unable to visit Tanjung Balai for over a year. Went back recently and stayed at Aston again. I can see that there are improvements, like the Rooftop restaurant and services. Overall, not a 4* for international standards, but would be the best hotel in Tanjung Balai.
