Detailed Reviews
We spent one night here after spending the day exploring the caves of Aggtelek. The staff was welcoming and attentive. The rooms are okay, but we weren't completely satisfied with the quality of furniture and towels etc., it all felt a little too old and worn. The hotel is charming but has seen better days. The restaurant is okay, the staff was nice.
We visited in mid autumn so unfortunately we didn't have the right weather to explore the tourist paths nearby but the environment is beautiful and the caves are definitely worth visiting.

The hotel is located in the middle of a forest surrounded by nothing else but trees. It is extremely beautiful to take a night stroll and listen to the silence. Because of this exceptional location we would recommend the hotel, although the rooms are very simple and the hotel not very comfortable. Also there is little to choose from so this leaves you with little options.

Room Tip:Ā We would not recommend eating at the attached restaurant, as the food is not fresh and not tasty.

We were happy to have found another restaurant within a few kms of aggtelek, however our joy was short-lived.
Cannot deny that the service was good and waiter spoke decent English, however the food was served within a few minutes (not normally a good sign).
Some of the dishes were ok, but the famous dish in Hungary (pƶrkƶlt ~ beef stew) was like a 10 year old shoe sole unfortunately... really some room for improvement here.
We can recommend the home made lemonade though, which was tasty.

Very rude and disrespectful waiter pretty much ordered us to move indoors in a very aggressive manner.
We were in a group of 10 and wanted to sit outside. Instead of serving us, the waiter ordered us to split the tables we put together and move inside. I get that he might not have liked that we connected three tables together (the place was empty and it was 10 of us).
We were treated like dirt and we are never coming back

Prety good overall. Had the Game Meat Stew dish and found it very good. My friends had the combination platter and found it average. The service was good and the price reasonable. The atmosphere however is very nice as well as the sorounding park. Recomend.

While we stayed at the hotel the restaurant was closed due to renovating. Nevertheless, we enjoyed our stay.
The room was nice and clean and we particularly appreciated the view from our balcony.
Not everyone in the staff speaks a good english, but everyone was really nice and we managed to understand each other.

An older hotel located between Aggtalek and Josvafƶ in de middel of the wood at the Entrace of the Tarn cave. The hotel is run by the National Park, so you get a discount on some short cave trips. The price of the acommondation is around 5'000 Forint per Person in a double. The room was functional. The Bathroom was not absolutly clean but ok. You have free WIFI in the Lobby.
You can walk within 10 minutes to josvafƶ on the street or on a trail. On Weekends its not that easy to finde an accomondation in the Nationalpark. If we had the Choice we would prefer to stay in one of the new Bungalow at the Campground of Aggtalek (Baradla hostel and Campground or at the Salamander House witch lies idyllic at the edge of Aggtalek. Both of these place are run as well by the national park.

The Hotel Tengerszem is located in a stunning location in an area with excellent wildlife sites. But, the hotel itself is in a very poor condition and needs total renovation. The shower rooms were dirty, some toilets leaked and there are no curtains on the windows.
The staff were grumpy and did not make you feel welcome, everything was hassle! The food only average and boring although beer was good value. They seem to cater for wedding parties, the one whilst we were there finished at 4am with loud disco etc. Staying guests seem too much trouble!!

We only ate here, so I can comment on food and service.
Not single one in the staff spoke English (which is quite surprising working in tourism) but we managed to comunicate in German. But they were friendly and organized.
Food was not good. Most of the group left it. We ate something with sheep cheese, bacon and onion. But it had really strong, not friendly smell. It was something typical Hungarian. Probably other dishes they make are OK if they don't contain cheese. :)

+1
We stayed here as part of small group in early September. The location, next to the cave, is excellent and so quiet and peaceful. The room was clean and comfortable and the bathroom was clean and well appointed. The restaurant was closed, so we had breakfast and dinner at a fantastic little B&B called Fogado az Oreg Malomhoz (Old Mill Inn) in Josvafo, which was a 15 minute walk down through the woods. The owners were very welcoming and friendly and the food was fantastic. We really enjoyed our stay here.
