We spent one night here after spending the day exploring the caves of Aggtelek. The staff was welcoming and attentive. The rooms are okay, but we weren't completely satisfied with the quality of furniture and towels etc., it all felt a little too old and worn. The hotel is charming but has seen better days. The restaurant is okay, the staff was nice. We visited in mid autumn so unfortunately we didn't have the right weather to explore the tourist paths nearby but the environment is beautiful and the caves are definitely worth visiting.
The Hotel Tengerszem is located in a stunning location in an area with excellent wildlife sites. But, the hotel itself is in a very poor condition and needs total renovation. The shower rooms were dirty, some toilets leaked and there are no curtains on the windows. The staff were grumpy and did not make you feel welcome, everything was hassle! The food only average and boring although beer was good value. They seem to cater for wedding parties, the one whilst we were there finished at 4am with loud disco etc. Staying guests seem too much trouble!!
We only ate here, so I can comment on food and service. Not single one in the staff spoke English (which is quite surprising working in tourism) but we managed to comunicate in German. But they were friendly and organized. Food was not good. Most of the group left it. We ate something with sheep cheese, bacon and onion. But it had really strong, not friendly smell. It was something typical Hungarian. Probably other dishes they make are OK if they don't contain cheese. :)
Prety good overall. Had the Game Meat Stew dish and found it very good. My friends had the combination platter and found it average. The service was good and the price reasonable. The atmosphere however is very nice as well as the sorounding park. Recomend.
While we stayed at the hotel the restaurant was closed due to renovating. Nevertheless, we enjoyed our stay. The room was nice and clean and we particularly appreciated the view from our balcony. Not everyone in the staff speaks a good english, but everyone was really nice and we managed to understand each other.
