We visited Shakaland with a group. The experience was wonderful and the people so friendly, warm and welcoming. The rooms and facilities are lovely and just need a face lift. This is an important piece of our history and culture and so very important to share with our children and the world. The property is tired and needs financial and...

Recommended to start the journey in this nice atmosphere; really good intro to Zululand; great place. Normally guests spend only one night and attend an evening performance and a morning event. But we staeyd 2 nights to enjoy and relax the atmosphere and had a perfect start of our journey through Kwa Zulu Natal.

We arrived in the late afternoon, had an excellent dinner, walked around the site, and had a good night's rest. The next day our scheduled activities were very interesting and gave us much insight into the Zulu life, culture, customs, food, and daily living. Highly recommend this to everyone! Good gift shop, too, with reasonable prices.

Once upon a time this might have been ok but it is very sadly dated. Rooms are dark, there is no air conditioning, queen beds only. Wait until they renovate (if they ever do) to visit. The Zulu show and tours are quite interesting, but the huts are zero to one star ..

Good and Nice stay, I Think it has lost his power the last years. Maybe it needs an upgrade with a Digital App so the visitors have more information then what the guides just tell you. But the visit was Nice for once

This is the ideal place if you want to experience how the Zulus lived in the olden days. You will get to see the Zulus life style, their hurt, how they make the thatched roof, Zulu beer, you will have an opportunity to taste it. You also have a choice of going out on a guarded safari tour.

My kids loved this, yes it's basic but that's part of is charm. My boys loved meeting a goat in reception, wild chickens, throwing spears and stick fighting. The food was tasty and African and the dancing show really good. The staff seemed really proud to be showing us their culture, and the money generated is very much needed in...

Will I ever return: NEVER. Would I recommend the place: NEVER. Would they still remain a 3 star establishment within a couple of months: I SERIOUSLY DOUBT IT. With the current condition of the place, cleanliness, food and entertainment, I would not even give them half a star. Being from Cape Town, we have been travelling all over KZN for...

I visit Shakaland as part of my job as a tour guide on a regular but infrequent basis. The rooms have not changed or been upgraded in many years and need some serious attention. The bathrooms are dated and the maintenance has been done in a very nonchalant basis. I personally feel very claustrophobic in the rooms which are quasi-traditional...

“The rooms were dirty and dusty and only cleaned on the surface. Don't even think of picking up those slippery carpets in the room as you will be met with a pile of dust. The hairdryer was illegally (and highly dangerously) connected to the shaver socket in the bathroom. Are these people trying to kill you? If is it not loose mats, or raw chicken then it is unsafe electrical connections. Will I ever return: NEVER. Would I recommend the place: NEVER. With the current condition of the place, cleanliness, food and entertainment, I would not even give them half a star.
