We’ve just had a great week staying at Hill Farm Cottages, and we can’t praise Mike and Julie enough. The clean cottages were comfortably furnished, the beds a dream, the kitchens well equipped with everything and more, and the welcome gifts of teas/coffees, biscuits and other delights were very well received. Our family group’s age range spanned from 3 to 80, and there was something for everyone to enjoy, from feeding the larger animals, petting the smaller ones, playing with the toys, sitting to read or chat in the pretty courtyard, swimming in the lovely warm pool, challenging each other to table-tennis and pool, and coming together while the men impressed us, allegedly, with their barbeque skills. Mike and Julie were always willing to help, and were a source of knowledge of places to visit as well as local eateries. We have already told others about this lovely holiday retreat, and will continue to sing its praises.…
Hill farm is a fabulous place. Our first family holiday with our little boy, and Mick and Julie made it so special. They were so kind and attentive, allowing us to feed the animals and pet them. The acclimation was spot ona sn really homely. It really was a wonderful week. We will be back!
Our experience as a family of 8 adults and 3 children was more than we could have ever expected from Hill farm . As a returned guest ( after Mick and Julie acquired hill farm ) was a completely Remarkable transformation, both in the welcome from both Mick and Julie , the cleanliness of the cottages was immaculate, the regular chats that Mick and Julie gladly engage in whenever they see their welcomed guests at any time of day or evening! Not only is this the perfect Location and accommodation for families with children of all ages ( from 1 -18 years old ) with the pool and a games room That will most definitely cater for all Ages and in my experience adults too with the pool table , table football, table tennis And far more for the little people and again it is immaculately clean and spotless. The invitation to feed the animals with mick and Julie is a must for all ages ( from Sheep to goats to chickens and ducks , rabbits, Guinea pigs) the list is endless - it is a very welcoming morning activity for Children and grown ups! Plus they sell fresh eggs which contributes well to any brunch!! This location offers the luxury of being Remote and amazing woodland walks to being accessible to the treasures of both Devon and Cornwall ( none of these are more than 40 mins away ) Bude, Croyde, Clovelly, basically anywhere on the north Devon coast ! Mick and Julie also give you the most comprehensive guide on their handbook to the highlights in the area and the best places to eat. Including the best Chinese I’ve ever had !!! We will most definitely be visiting again! A five star review for both location , accommodation and hosts - mick and Julie !…
We loved our visit to Hill Farm Cottages - our 3 year old had loads of fun feeding animals, swimming in the pool, and having close access to the beach. RHS Rosemoor was also a big hit, and is 5 mins away by car. Mick and Julie were fantastic hosts, and we'd definitely come back again in the future.
Third stay at hill farm cottage we have always had a warm welcome Mick & Julie are great hosted. Great for families with animals, swimming pool and games room We will recommend to family and friends Great
This is the 4th time we have been back, and we all still love it. Kids (now 10 and 8) still enjoy feeding the animals, the pool and games room. Julie and Mick are very welcoming hosts and their love of animals is infectious. Would thoroughly recommend.
We've just returned from a second visit to Hill Farm Cottages. Highly recommend it. Plenty to do nearby and the facilities on site are wonderful. A lovely welcome from Julie and Mick. Our 3 children had such a lovely time with the animals and grew in confidence every day. We thoroughly enjoyed swimming every day too and having the pool to ourselves. Such a gem!
A perfect week at Hill Farm with all you could ask for in a beautiful furnished cottage. There are 5 cottages in total and we stayed in the 2 bedroomed Landcross. Hosts Mike and Julie are wonderful hosts and certainly make you feel welcome. The swimming pool is certainly an excellent feature to have with the bonus that you get to book by the hour so you can be assured that you have your own space to swim/play! Animal feeding is the morning routine if you have young children (although let’s face it you are never too old to feed the chickens are you !). You may even get to meet a few famous ones named after rock stars! You do not have to be a family with kids to stay here, if you chose to you wouldn’t even know they had animals as they are away from the cottages. Great Torrington is a 20m walk away as is the Tarka Trail and the Puffing Billy is certainly a welcoming watering hole. Local pub in Weare Giffard (the Cyder Press) is a great local but beware as it’s a 2 mile climb back. Just one thing to be wary of…Micks sheep jokes. They are truly awful ! 😂…
We have just returned from a week’s stay at Hill Farm Cottages. What a lovely hideaway this place truly is, tucked away in the hills and surrounding countryside just 3 minutes outside of Great Torrington. Surrounded by fields and hillside views the cottages feel private and secluded. The accommodation is faultless, super clean and kitted out to a high standard, having recently been upgraded. All mod cons provided, with laundry washing facilities included onsite. The accommodation is a good size for a family of 4 and a dog (we stayed in Landcross). I like the way the cottages are named after the nearby villages, as we soon discovered as we started exploring the local area. Julie and Mick were welcome hosts, greeting us on arrival with biscuits (for us and the dog), kids drinks, tea, coffee and milk waiting for us on arrival after a long journey. The site itself is clean and tidy and Julie had even decorated a tree in the courtyard with Easter eggs - which the children loved spotting on our first morning walk to feed the animals! It felt very festive with Easter reefs on the cottage doors. It was lovely to see the attention to detail of these little touches, not something you would get from more commercial resorts. Each morning the children (and myself) loved feeding the animals on the farm. There were birds, lambs, ducks, chickens, baby rabbits, guinea pigs, ponies, goats to name a few. All well looked after, clean living areas and living a happy life on the farm. The children are already missing the animals! It was nice to get to know and chat to Julie and Mick at the morning feeds. There is also the added bonus of a indoor, heated swimming pool on site, where you can book timed slots so each family can have private use of the pool. My children (7 and 3 years old) loved this and the freedom to be themselves and enjoy playing in the pool. There is also a games room with a pool table, table tennis and children’s toys, dvds and books you can borrow on-site. Lots to do in the surrounding areas, the beach we visited (Saunton Sands) was around 30/40 mins away - sand for miles, toilet and restaurant en route to the beach - very popular with surfers, lots of sand dunes. Bideford was great for fish n chips, north Cornwall such as Bude lovely to visit and easily done in a day. Tarka Trail goes for miles and miles and you can join it from Great Torrington and hire bikes. Lots of places to walk dogs too, little streams everywhere lining the foots of the hills. We had a lovely visit and will definitely be returning! Thanks again Mick and Julie for a lovely stay. Lyndsay and Jason…
What a fantastic place. The owners were there to greet us and help us with any queries we had. There was a goodies bag which included all essential things plus a lovely cake and biscuits. They were always around if you needed help with anything. Feeding the animals in the morning, it was lovely to see the children having so much fun and the owner is explaining all about the animals. We would definitely be going again and bringing the grandchildren. The facilities were the best I have ever been to even in this horrible time of Covid. Swimming every day and then if the weather had been bad there was a lovely games room for children. Would recommend The cottages for families or just couples.
