We went for dinner and the food was incredible. I have tried local food but this was great quality. The staff (Lamin) were so friendly, attentive and relaxed. The atmosphere was perfect and they had a great chill band on Thursday who filled the air with a mix of music and covers. All in all brilliant. Super friendly, relaxed and no need for the beach nearby!

A truly wonderful week at Hibiscus House, nestled in amongst the safe and happy coastal town of Brufut. Hibiscus Hotel is a little haven, an oasis of pools, gardens, flowers and exotic birds - a perfect base for enjoying a taste of Gambia. The authentic styled rooms are spacious and well positioned around the grounds with comfortable beds and good hot showers. Sarah and her charming team could not have been more welcoming. They all made us feel totally relaxed and a real part of their little haven. Sarah is happy to arrange a variety of trips with her own super friendly, knowledgeable guide and driver. The Kartong river trip was a highlight, crocodiles along the shoreline, pelicans, fish eagles and many other birds to be seen! A truly Gambian experience. Each meal is freshly prepared for you and delicious and whilst we understand that there are a variety of good local restaurants, we chose to eat in at Hibiscus every evening and loved every one of their ‘Specials’. There is also a well stocked bar which is a lovely place to relax at any time! We enjoyed the 20 minute walk to the wonderful beach where juice bars and beach cafes await you, but also loved strolling through the neighbourhood of Brufut and always felt safe and welcome - never hassled. If you are looking for a real taste of African charm then look no further - you've found it! Thank you all for a very special week.

Travelling independently to Africa for the first time could be somewhat daunting. Hibiscus House took all our cares away. We have just returned home having spent a two week holiday there and what a great experience it was. The airport transfers were provided and the vehicle was comfortable, well maintained and very safely driven. The standard of the accommodation suited us perfectly and we had a good pool all to ourselves. The quality and freshness of the food provided is outstanding. It is expertly prepared and served using fresh local products. The chefs go out of their way to please by asking what you would like them to prepare for you. Sarah the host and owner is very friendly, helpful, knowledgeable and fun. She goes out of her way to engage with all her guests. Sarah has gathered a lovely local team of staff around her who are Gambian and natural ly very warm by nature. They also share Sarah's ethos of not being happy until you are happy! Every time we came back to Hibiscus it felt safe, peaceful and relaxing. A real "home from home". There are a variety of trips available either cultural or wild life orientated. The river trip we chose was delightful and again it was very personal and we were extremely well taken care of. Probably one of the best holidays ever and we will return.

This was our first trip to The Gambia so it was wonderful to receive a warm welcome at the airport from the Hibiscus House team. We were travelling with a couple of old friends and at the hotel had the two suites with own private pool which was truly wonderful. I always travel with my own pillow due to neck problems but I needn’t have bothered - the pillows were top notch and the bed so comfortable. I slept better than I do at home! Being situated in a local village you are given ear plugs in case you don’t want to hear the local noises such as calls to prayer or general wildlife, however I didn’t bother after the first two nights as I grew to love the African noises. Our suite was beautifully clean and stylish and we had the option of Aircon or fan. The fan was more than adequate so we didn’t bother with the Aircon. Every meal at Hibiscus House was incredible. Fresh produce, fabulous fish and imaginative cuisine - we ate so much delicious food over the week but nowhere topped the food at the hotel. Sarah and her staff go out of their way to make sure you feel at home and ensure you have everything you need, including organising day trips so you can see wildlife, trips into town to visit markets, listening to live music or exploring new beaches. Nothing is too much trouble for them. A couple of my favourite memories are breakfasts surrounded by greenery with exotic birds taking their morning dips in the bird baths and of course the nights The Acoustic Boys band came to play so we could all dance around the pool. The welcoming atmosphere from the staff seemed to spread to the guests, everyone got on together without encroaching on each other’s space. A truly memorable trip and I feel that despite the perfect mix of R&R and sight seeing, we need to go back to see and experience even more from sanctuary of Hibiscus House! Thank you Sarah and your team - we had such a happy time and look forward to seeing you again soon 😍

We had a really lovely stay at Hibiscus House. The local people are friendly and you can walk around the village and to the beach without any bother. The food was superb, freshly cooked to order and delicious. The best hotel we have ever eaten in! The staff are all very friendly and helpful. We stayed in the Hibiscus Suite, but to be honest we would have been more than comfortable in any of the rooms. It is in the middle of a village so you should expect to hear local noises such as prayers, insects, animals and the dreaded cockerel. We were thoughtfully supplied with ear plugs, but to be honest after a couple of nights we stopped using them, you get used to it. It does help that the bed and pillows are very comfy! The grounds are beautiful and provide plenty of shade if wanted, they also attract some beautiful birds. During our stay the host, Sarah, organised a trip on the river for us, where we saw lots of crocodiles and birds, including pelicans. Highly recommend. Following our stay here we went on to Serrekunda to stay in a ‘beach resort’. Very different! If you want to stay in a hotel and relax by the pool for the duration of your holiday then the tourist areas are great. If you want to really experience Gambian life and explore all it has to offer then I would highly recommend it from the comfort of Hibiscus House. Thank you Sarah and team, we will be back next year!

We arrived at Hibiscus house to the drumbeat of the house band and the best chicken Caesar Salad that I have ever had. Sarah and her team were welcoming, attentive and very responsive to our needs. Nothing was too much trouble. If you're used to large 5 star hotel chains then Hibiscus House isn't for you. If you're looking for authentic styled African rooms, quality food, fantastic service, beautiful ambiance, shaded pool area and inclusive breakfast, Hibiscus house will exceed your expectations. We enjoyed walking from the hotel to the beach, it only took about 15 -20 mins but it was worth the walk. Beaches are beautiful. Sarah, the owner, has such an inspirational story about how she ended up living in Gambia and the proprietor of Hibiscus House.

Had a wonderful stay here at short notice. A great welcome, from the staff and the host Sarah, who could not have done more to greet us. Intimate, quirky, off the beaten track but a delightful oasis in the middle of town. So quiet and discreet with a great bar and great food. Lovely rooms, a bit of old fashioned vibe but so comfortable. If you are looking for a young people vibe and nightlife, this is not for you but if you're looking for a bit of sophisticated and discreet laid back accomodation, this is the place.

The whole experience at Hibiscus House feels as if you have found a little piece of heaven on earth. Welcoming, friendly, exceptional staff team. Outstanding food and hospitality. You can treat your stay as a real 'retreat' or combine it with truly memorable day trips on water or land, organised by the host. A delightful array of spectacular birds sing in the pristine gardens in the morning as you wake up and take your delicious breakfast. Crickets can be heard at night for the perfect nocturnal soundscape. The whole place and space is clean, serene, calm, friendly and what's more, bathed in sunshine in certain months of the year.

Rooms are located in a beautiful garden full of colourful birds and flowers. The staff were great - very helpful and friendly. Sarah the owner was welcoming and any issues were addressed promptly. We ate at the property very evening. The menu is limited but offers a mix of local and more international dishes. Every meal was delicious. An excellent place to relax and laze around the pool.
