We arrived very late to the hotel. The staff was waiting for us with sandwiches. All of them were very nice our whole stay. They were helpful all the time, never bored with my questions. Most of them speak very good English. There is private part of beach for hotel visitors with bamboo umbrellas, and hotel bar on the beach. During my stay, I had my birthday, and the staff made for me excellent party and comunitaced presents and cake! I am very pleasantly surprised by this hotel, and Albania in general. If you want to spend nice relaxing vacation in family hotel, in clean rooms, with delicious food, definitely choose this one. I wouldn’t hesitate to come back again!
I arrived at the hotel late in the evening after a long drive, tired and hungry. They (the family that runs the hotel) were waiting for me in front and was so welcoming I couldn't believe. They took me with their car to a restaurant for dinner and wanted to pay for it - it was a very good place with fresh fish and super tasty everything. They asked at what time I would like the breakfast to be ready the next morning. The next day, after a huge breakfast they took me to the beach (30 meters from the hotel) where they had prepared a sun lounge with umbrella especially for me. I stayed one more night than planned but would have stayed longer if I could. The hotel itself is new and cozy, the restaurant is at the top floor with a terrace with lovely sea view. I totally recommend this place. The value for money is more than excellent.…
This small, family hotel is a great place to stay in Durres / Golem. It feels like home, the atmosphere is very nice during the stay. Beautiful terrace restaurant on the roof provides great view and delicious cuisine. You have very good supermarket in the hotel to buy anything you need. Beautiful beach is also just infront of the hotel.
The Marika Hotel in Golem is just like most hotels there - small, family-run, inexpensive - and not worth more than you'd pay (in my case, 30 EUR per night). I came to the area to visit a friend's wedding and chose to stay with the rest of our party, so the hotel was not exactly my own choice. The driver spent half an hour looking for the place - the hotel's sign is barely seen from the main road. To find it, look for "Dushi Supermarket" instead, the building is grey. Credit cards are not accepted - you'd have to pay cash in LEK or EUR. No receipt is given, though. The lady at the reception speaks some Italian, but no English. She is sometimes assisted by her sister from the supermarket, who speaks English (surprisingly!). The room was tiny and not really pleasing, and the bathroom even less so. Everything was very, very basic. Very few electric sockets, no hair-drier, no safety-box, unfortunately. No soap or shampoo, either. Breakfast was served on the top floor, with a view of the town and the beach. The view was the only good thing about it - there was no selection of food, just a slice of cheese, some butter and jam, an egg (boiled or fried), a fried sausage and a glass of milk (what for?!). The staff at the breakfast café doesn't understand a word English or Italian. The beach is just across the stone road, behind some rather poor-looking old buildings. I swear, I've never seen water as dirty as there - thanks to hundreds of families and children coming to Albania in August. For some hygiene, I had to swim further into the sea - it was not deep at all. There is a bus to Durres many times a day, the road takes ca. 20 minutes. The only ATM I could find in the area is in 15 minutes walk from the hotel - just follow the road along the beach, then, when the solid road starts (near the police office) turn left.…
