We stayed in Katie's Cottage for a week. Upon arrival we were warmly welcomed by Hilary, who had baked us a cake and left us some local honey, lovely unexpected touch. Later, Sandra introduced us to a wealth of information about the surrounding area, some great tips on places to visit. The farm is located close to Beamish, Durham, Newcastle, Gateshead, Sunderland, pretty little coastal resorts, to name but a few. The cottage is very comfortably decorated & equipped. Everything you need is there. Hillary and Sandra are so friendly and helpful and are there if you need them, otherwise you are left to enjoy your holiday. We can definitely highly recommend this place as a hidden gem.We rate this accommodation as one of the best places we have stayed. We will definitely return. Debbie and Ade. Grimsby…
A friend & I have stayed in Katie’s Cottage for our Summer Break for many years. We always book for the next year as we could not find a better place to stay. Hilary & Sandra are the perfect hosts. The welcome cake etc. Is much appreciated & the cottage is perfect as everything you need is provided. Low Urpeth Farm is ideal for visiting the local area. There are so many interesting places to go & amazing scenery. This year we watched the farm machinery in action. Fascinating to us Townies! Also the new addition of the chickens & the automatic lawnmowers kept us occupied each morning. Low Urpeth Farm is a Jewel. We feel so at home when we come. We are so pleased to have found the perfect holiday accommodation (or should I say Home from Home.)
We booked this location for the reviews we had read. It more than lived up to them. we were welcomed litrally with open arms. The accommodtion was fantastic. wwe booked a room in the farm house, however we actually stayed in the cottage. Everything that could be there was available. The breakfast the next morning was superb. (fantastic). we would highly recomend this location.
This is the best farmhouse b&b I have ever stayed in, hilary is the perfect hostess, the rooms are large and sumptuous and are furnished with beautiful antique wardrobes, tallboys and beds, wonderful views overlook the countryside, and the breakfast was amazing, consisting of homemade jams and preserves, egg bacon sausage tomatoes and mushrooms, class pure and simple, I will be going back for definite, thank you Hilary.
Just returned from a long weekend staying in the Bungalow at Low Urpeth farm. It was easy to find off the main road, and was ideally situated about 5 minutes from Beamish and close to Gateshead and Newcastle. We were welcomed by Hilary and given little Easter treats for the children, and a delicious cake, which were really appreciated after a long drive. As a family of 4 the Bungalow was comfortable and spacious, with 2 ensuite bedrooms and a large kitchen, dining room and lounge. A Tesco delivery, just after we arrived, saved loading the car with food. The next morning, an Easter Egg hunt had been arranged by Sandra for all the children, which went down very well! We visited Beamish twice with the reduced price vouchers (good value and plenty to do) and also had a trip to Whitley Bay to visit St Mary's lighthouse, at low tide (again, well worth a visit). Overall, it was lovely having a comfortable place to stay and a big thank you to Hilary, Peter and Sandra. We'll recommend you to everyone!…
This was a weekend visit to explore the Gateshead/Newcastle/Durham area and Low Urpeth Farm proved to be an ideal base. Hilary is a warm, very welcoming host. The farm has been in the family for generations and is very comfortable. The accommodation is spotlessly clean. The legendary breakfast lives up to expectations and deserves all the awards. I foolishly left an item of clothing behind. Hilary posted it immediately and refused to take any payment for my carelessness. I would highly recommend this friendly B&B
Hilary made us feel very welcome and did everything to make our stay perfect. The cottage is very clean and has everything you need. The surroundings are beautiful and the location is great, close to Durham but also easy access to Newcastle. We will definetely come back!
We stayed here for 2 days and you can not fault this place. The cottage is lovely and every thing is perfect.Hilary is a lovely lady and a fantastic host.A few extras had been provided by Hilary which gave us a nice warm welcome when we arrived. The breakfast was lovely ,and will definitely be back the next time we come.
Promising ourselves for many years to take a trip to the Beamish Museum i searched the internet for accommodation and so pleased i came across Urpeth Farm B & B. On arrival we felt this was home from home, made very welcome with coffee and homemade biscuits served in the lounge and a little chat with Hilary, who is very knowledgeable about the area and places to eat. We were shown to our room (Sandra's Room) and could not have been happier. The room was warm, cosy and spotless. We spent 3 nights there. There weather was sunny but freezing cold but it didn't matter as back at the B & B there was a fabulous hot shower with white fluffy towels and a large comfy bed to climb into. Wonderful. The hearty breakfasts set us up for the day with an abundance of choice. The smell of homemade bread wafting up the stairs had us heading for the dining room that's for sure. On the last night we went out to get Fish n Chips and was planning to sit in the van to eat them. Hilary said it's far to cold for that, bring them back here. Not only that she invited us to sit in her private lounge with her to watch the rugby. We think she is the 'real Angel of the North'. We will be back without doubt plus we had a voucher courtesy of our host for discount to the Museum. Our tickets allow us back in again free within the year. If you are looking for accommodation in this area look no further, this is a real gem, together with the best of northern hospitality. Thanks so much Hilary, see you soon.…
A lovely, traditional B&B, furnished with antique furniture. A very quiet location but just a few miles from Durham and Beamish Museum. Hilary is a lovely lady and we had a very comfortable stay. Thoroughly recommended.
