Book this place if you're seeking the authentic Tuamotu experience with a friendly family host. The property consists of 6 bungalows fronting the "green lagoon" on the west part of the atoll across the Avatoru channel. The family offers boat shuttle service to and from the pension. The pristine lagoon also makes it an excellent place for swimming and snorkeling. Watch out for falling coconuts because there are coconut trees everywhere. Meals are offered during breakfast, lunch, and/or dinner by request and are served family-style. I also recommend booking a day excursion directly with the host to either Blue Lagoon or Reef Island while staying here.

Traveled to Rangiroa to Pension Punua & Moana this last June 2018. I took my wife and two daughters for an adventure I knew they would never forget. I warned them that where we were going was remote, there was no fancy amenities, no WiFi, no TV, no cell service, no air conditioned rooms, no refrigeration, no nightlife, no entertainment and our taxi ride to the lagoon was by small boat...and we all loved it. Moana and Punua and their daughters were just wonderful, even the large family of dogs that roam the property. Communication to the pension is very very slow, as I learned once we got there that they have to communicate via cell phone to their other daughter on the main island of Tahiti who has access to the internet and makes all the arrangements and manages the deposits (which you have to wire to the Bank of Tahiti) I usually do not ever wire funds to anyone, but I called the Bank de Tahiti and verified the account. There were no problems. Our primary language is English ,and theirs is French and Tahitian, so there was a little bit of a language barrier there even though they did speak a little English themselves. The home made food (I opted for a full full board) which included breakfast, lunch and dinner. It was all very wonderful, clean, fresh and appetizing. I would defiantly go back again. If you are looking for a fancy place with entertainment and nightlife, this is not the place for you, you will be disappointed. If you want seclusion and semi isolation, then this place you will love.

They canceled our reservation without notice! Shocked to find out this ‘happy news’ at the airport while awaiting them for the transfert! Lack of communication since the beginning not due to the weak internet connection rather to a superficial commitment toward customers. Of course this is not typical of French Polynesian hospitality.

Our stay at Pension Punua and Moana was an experience of a lifetime. The location at the Green Lagoon is spectacular, the accommodations were wonderful and the family was incredibly welcoming and made our stay an instant favorite! The huts are magical, clean, decorated in island style and every hut has a view of the sunrise over the stunning Green Lagoon. The family is happy to take you in a boat to the excursions or just a quick trip to town for a walk or a bike ride with one of the bikes available at the Pension. The food is delicious and you will eat all the classic Polynesian dishes, in a beautiful, open air setting. If you stay here, you will have an amazing time and you will be counting the days until you can visit again. This family is so wonderful and you will be so happy you chose Pension Punua and Moana.

Ours was a private visit, we are related to Punua and family so our stay was priceless, getting to know our family better was the best part of our stay. Added to that, they arranged for a visit to Lagon Bleu where we dove with the sharks and had an amazing excursion. Meals were exemplary. The entire visit was magic!
