We loved our stay at Bann Makok. We had room 8 on the corner which we would highly recommend. It's a small hotel in a fantstic location. The rooms are not super quiet or super new but they are really lovely and have a special feel. We loved showering outdoors. Right on the river which we jumped into several times from our room. A five minute kayak (provided for free) brings you to a beautiful and almost deserted beach and there is another hotel with a lovely open bar on the end of the beach/cove with completely unobstructed views. Also we have to plug the food in the Bann Makok restaurant (it should be busy 24/7 but it isn't). It's not the cheapest on the island (nor anything like the most expensive) but it is really fantastic (and we've eaten a lot of Thai food) so very good value. Very friendly and helpful staff. We would absolutely love to return.

My husband and I stayed at The Getaway for 4 nights over the New Year holiday. What an experience! From the moment we arrived until the moment we left, we felt so well taken care of. The 8 bungalows (4 on each side of the main area) are unique.
The beach is a 10 minute kayak paddle down the lagoon away......lovely and secluded. Swimming in the pristeen lagoon serious fun, too.
Aside from meeting interesting people from all over hte world and snorkeling with Koby and Faii, the highlight of our trip was a traditional Thai dinner on New Year's Eve.....one of the best meals we had in Thailand.
Thank you for making our stay at The Getaway so special.

We stayed at Bann Makok for 4 nights and we loved it. We stayed in room 8 and it was beautiful with the views and the deck over the mangroves. The staff were very friendly and helpful and even took us out to see the fireflies.
The beach is stunning and there was noone there, it only takes a few minutes to kayak there. There are a lot of sand flies though which is the case on any quiet beach where they are not disturbed.
You are very secluded here and a fair distance from other restaurants and bars but it is easy to hire a motorbike or get a taxi and the seclusion is lovely. The food here is very good too.

This is the second time we stay at Bann Makok and unfortunately things are not as good as our last visit. It is a place where people need to show respect when it comes to talking as the hotell is very small. this time there were many children which takes away all the cosy feeling. It is know as a hide away from all hustle and bustle but this time our holiday was destroyed by ignorant parents and their screaming children. The rooms are very nice but not clean...the tables in the restaurant have not been cleaned for ages and the tiles are all black of dirt...the management really need to go over the place to make it clean and fresh. The dirt around the toilet was disgusting. Many details that are not ok. Easy thing to fix but it seems no one cares. Once a beatiful and calm getaway. Please change your policy and dont allow children under 12 years of age and make an effort to clean the place properly and we would come back any time.

😁: the place lies near a small clear river, full of fish, moving with the tide, in the middle of mangroves. The hotel is tastfully furnitured. It is nice to lie on the terrace and look at the river.
😖: there was a very bad smell around our room and the area next to it as mentioned in many other comments. This might stem from the muddy ground but also from the toilets. Especially when the air condition is not on, this is difficult to bare. Officially air condition is on from 7:00pm to 7:00 am otherwise the room offers only a fan which does not manage to clear the air. Two nights the air condition didnt work at all. Without air condition only with a small fan it is very difficult to spend time in the room during the day, it smells and is really hot. The room itself is dark, very weak electric light, I had to read with the torch of my mobile phone, small windows with curtains. These curtains are necessary as the back of the room seems to function as an area for garbage deposit , stray dogs , their feces … this is also the entry area of the hotel.
To get towels you have to ask the receptionist, it is not enough to put the dirty towels on the floor. The dirty ones are removed, but new towels are not provided

Restaurant: the breakfast ( included ) is very poor. Some flakes, yoghurt, ready made juices, some fruits. You can order eggs in different forms. This would be alright, for a cheap hotel, but not for this price.
Restaurant food is just ok, you can eat at many places much better, for example at shanta resort. Breakfast at mermaid cafe, which we discovered during our trip, is really great, everything homemade with bowls and croissant, homemade jam etc,

Personal: except the man looking for the boats and one waiter in the restaurant the employees are arrogant and unfriendly . Especially the lady at the reception who seem to be in charge of the hotel is arrogant and passive aggressive. When you ask something, she gives you the feeling that you did something wrong or that it is too much work for her. Very unfriendly, very untypical for thailand.
We stayed for 8 days in bann makok, we will certainly not return.

The location of the resort dies not have a sign posted on the main road. I was stranded one evening returning there. The place has some nice characters but it is infested with mosquitoes. The beds have mosquito nets but they are not enough to prevent the insects to sting you!

Great place to relax. Stay for two three nights and you will find a place made of love with great food and stunning cocktails. When you come all the way to Ko Kut dont miss this place. We loved it also because it is such a unique and special experience after all those (top) typical Beach Resorts. Good luck Bann Makok team and keep the positive spirit!

Bann Makok is truly amazing place! It felt like home immediately. The staff was very kind and the food was amazing. The staff also arranged us an unforgettable snorkeling trip. The kayaks are very nice and a lovely quiet beach is near. Our room (6) was perfect and we could jump to the river almost straight from our terrace. A hidden place among the mangrove trees by the river, so beautiful! I really want to come back here again and my wife and our two teenage kids think the same. A big thank you Bann Makok!! -Mikko from Finland

A real getaway at a very special place - heartwarming, wonderful nature, very nice stuff, great food. yes, it's in the mangroves, the smells are sometimes mangrove-like, but the silence, the views, the water and the peoples smiles weigh it all up. very charming, clean rooms!

Room Tip: channel view rooms! we had nr 6 - during low tides the views to the swamp aren't too inviting.
