Located two hours away from Phuket and in a tropical countryside, great for relaxation, Yaowawit Lodge gives you a jungle view of our farmland, where you can go for walking, jogging or simply exploring the plants that we have grown organically. The lodge has 15 rooms and is next to the school. Both are on the hill. But the farm is down the hill. And on the farm edge, our outdoor swimming pool is open all day for you to enjoy. From the pool, you can marvel the green hills around it and the view of Yaowawit School sitting on one of them. By staying at our lodge, you can also take part in school activities with our children to whom the income of your stay will go. Outside Yaowawit, you can also explore neighbouring villages. Kapong is the main village, about three kilometres away, and there you can see local people who still live their daily life according to Thai culture. On some occasions, you can join their parades to experience unique Thai festivities firsthand.

Set in the hills around Khao Lak and nestled in the middle of a rain forest is Yeowa Wit Hotel/School. A lovely getaway from the bustle of Khao Lak (scuba diving headquarters for this area) and only 30 minutes minutes by car/motorbike. The roads are good to and from. Once you’re there you can chose from one of seven units, ranging from deluxe rooms to suites. The rooms are spacious and decorated simply but elegantly. In the morning one awakes with the feeling of having just spent the night in a tree house. The hotel provides all the amenities one could wish for: air conditioning, olympic size pool, good internet connection. There’s a large community room where one can enjoy cable tv, music, karaoke and help themselves to a fully stocked refrigerator of beer and soft drinks. All profits earned go toward making the school self sustainable. The hotel is also a training experience for older students who plan to work in the hotel industry. There are a 150 students in the school ranging from ages 5-18 years. The student body is mostly made up of children from poor rural areas and local children who are at risk due to poverty. Food is prepared by the head masters wife who is an excellent cook. Part of the charm is running into small children on their way to class or meals, (be prepared to answer questions such as “what is your name” and “where are you from”). Communication at times can be difficult (the staff is in the process of learning English) but the price at Suite/900B/night is right for those tourists interested in a unique boutique hotel experience that gives something back to a community of children who otherwise would not have access to an education or hope for a better life.

We enjoyed our recent visit to the Yaowawit School Hotel in Kapong, in a gorgeous location in the jungle near Khao Sok national park. The executive suite was spacious, as were the superior rooms, and well appointed with a big bed, comfy couches, a separate office and luxurious bathroom. What we most enjoyed was meeting the kids who attend the school (and helped to serve breakfast!), talking with teachers about their educational mission and supporting this important program that helps over a hundred disadvantaged children.

If you are in this are you have to stop buy at this school/restaurant/lodge. Either you just have a glass of water and take a tour through the school or you have Lunch at the schools restaurant which is run as a kind of hospitality course for the children. Pa Tui makes the best Thai food, this is a big compliment if I say that I live since 5 years in Thailand and I like to eat :)

The Lodge is located directly in the middle of the jungle. Great experience for anyone.

The best part about this place is that all the profit goes directly to the 140 children who life there 24/7.

It is a must visit in Phang Nga inner country, even worth a 45 min drive from Khao Lak! You will not regret it!!!

We stayed overnight on the weekend during a mountain bike ride from Phuket to Takua Pa on the coast. We met Vincent, one of the volunteers, who showed us the school, the restaurant and the accommodations. The whole concept of the place is pretty cool, a school for underprivileged children, some direct victims of the 2004 tsunami, some indirect victims, others just struggling from various family issues. Either way, the school has a provided a unique educational opportunity for these children, underprivileged or not, in a beautiful setting. Not only do they have normal school classes, but are kept very busy tending gardens, taking field trips, volunteering at the hospital, learning computer skills, and even music classes. I have never seen a Thai school offering so many different activities.

The accommodation seemed pretty dear for 1200 THB per night, but after seeing how large and well appointed the rooms were, I understood. The food in the restaurant was excellent and they served large portions for a very reasonable price.

Kapong is one of the prettiest towns in southern Thailand, and the hilly countryside has great mountain biking trails, waterfalls, temples, markets, and a very nice hot springs which is a "must see." If you want a taste of country life as well as doing something to help children, this is a good holiday destination.

Yaowawit is a very special place. Set-up after the Tsunami, it is from its origin a school/orphanage for kids with sad family stories. Meanwhile own agricultural activities, a lodge and a restaurant help to earn money in order to support this project. So you have the great opportunity to spend days in beautiful nature, relax at a spacious pool, and if you like, get to know 100 happy and very energetic kids, who make you smile the moment you meet them. We support one of children financially, so we have our "special friend" our "godchild" at Yaowawit. That's another strong point about Yaowawit in case you are interested in supporting a Charity Organisation and want to make sure the money directly reaches the target audience. Until now, we went twice to Yaowawit. For my 7year old daugther it is a tremamdous learning opportunity, and very joyful (same is true for me as mother). It helps to change perspectives, reflect on real values in life - I personally feel especially for us as European Expats in Asia a very rewarding experience!

Yaowawit gives a home and education to around 140 children from underprivileged backgrounds. It is located in the middle of the beautiful green jungle, near the pretty city of Kapong and only 2 hours from Phuket and 40 minutes from Khao Lak.
To teach the children amongst many other things the skills of hospitality, the school runs also a lodge. We stayed there as a family with two children for four nights and it was a tremendously inspiring, rewarding experience.

- the guestrooms are very clean, tastefully with bamboo furniture decorated, spacious rooms

- you can get besides breakfast also lunch and dinner, deliciously cooked by the school's wonderful cook

- meals are served by the children, you eat in an open dining room overlooking the lush jungle

- a pool is provided, while swimming you can enjoy the view and the sounds of the jungle

- there is also an organic farm as part of the school project with lemongrass, papayas, chicken and even goats

- the Yaowawit children are awsome, very open, curious, happy and energetic little people

- a joy is also to see how the kind and motivated staff and teachers form a very well organised community

- whenever possible you are welcome to join, in the evenings you can join activities like games, music or meditation

- many interesting excursions are waiting like a market in Kapong, temples, waterfalls, elephant parks and a very nice hot spring

- we rented a car, but the school can also arrange a transfer from the airport in Phuket

- it's 2600 THB/night for two including breakfast, since the lodge is non-profit, the school and the children directly benefit from your money

Yaowawit is definetly a must see place and one of the very best thing you could do when you are in South Thailand!

Beautiful spacious, fresh and well presented rooms with comfortable beds, attractive decor and western style bathrooms (after travelling the country side of thailand you get the distinction).
These rooms make for a lovely place to stay but then you add to it that you are based at a school/orphanage for children who live on the same property and you are invited to talk and play with the children and be involved with their day is just such an amazing down to earth experience who would pick your stock standard accomodation compared with this.
we learnt that the children were learning skills in hospitality and are involved in 'waiting' on us in the dining area with meals being freshly prepared on site. By paying to stay at this school you know that the money you spend is going towards making brighter futures for the students and can actually see it happening before your eyes.
There is also a recreation room with wifi for any down time you may have and a fridge for purchasing drinks. i would reccommend this to all my friends and family. for those with mobility issues there are a number of steps at the venue however there are many ramps as alternative routes, but just keep in mind if you arent able to walk up many steps.
i will rate this very highly because of the combination of lovely rooms which on an international scale might only be 3/4 star but in the context they are splendid.
Almost forgot there is a pool with a mini bar as well as a variety of sustainable farming around the hotel grounds.

I visited Yaowawit in October 2011. I went there with my mum, dad and sister. The lodge is located in the middle of the jungle, but with easy access to local villages, a beautiful beach and the Phuket airport. The rooms we stayed in were a lot better than I had imagined. They were spacious, clean and with a lovely interior. The breakfast and diner were fantastic. We got toast, eggs, bacon and sausages every day for breakfast and a varied diner menu in the evenings. The staff was extremely helpful and kind. I found the history and motivation to set up Yaowawit very interesting and inspiring. We got a tour around the school, which was a truly unique experience. It was good to see that the children learnt how to grow their own crops and be educated, and at the same time have a wonderful time. The lodge gave us the opportunity to relax at the beach, to visit local markets, to learn about the history of Southern Thailand, particularly the tsunami of 2004, and to meet the wonderful children that go to the Yaowawit school. At the end of our stay we were so inspired by the local people and dedication of everyone who helped set up Yaowawit that we decided to sponsor one of the children there. Overall it was an unique experience that I will never forget.

"Being a guest at the Yaowawit Lodge was a wonderfully moving experience. This was one of my nicest holidays ever. Everybody made me feel so welcome, and I feel privileged to have learned so much more about the Thai culture - and about its potential. Anybody who cares about Thailand should spend a few days at Yaowawit." (Jochen Voswinkel, Germany)
