We went for an holiday at lushoto and decided to stay at the lodge. Wow, it's much more of an experience to it. It was worth it. We loved everything from customer services so responsive, the rooms were clean with towels, the heater, the bedroom with blankets, the food was delicious and well prepared, the great view so green area, the beautiful garden, the manager & the staffs were so helpful. I felt so cold cause of the weather and the manager helped me with his sweater cause I didn't have one, what a kindness! We recommend this accommodation to anyone who visits lushoto.

Room Tip: You should come with a sweater cause it's so cold in lushoto but at the lodge there's a firework...

I traveled this October to Lushoto and arrived at this 3 star lodge.
Pros;
Friendly staff, spacious rooms/ not all, good atmosphere around the lodge, average food.
Cons; Not wheelchair friendly, unclean bathrooms need to be maintained well, Breakfast could be improved, hotel amenities could be provided as stated.
If you’re looking for a place far from the hustle bustle in town this is it. But don’t have high expectations.

Thanks for the review and the pros so much appreciated, we have since embarked on the Cons: We have developed a wheel chair track beside the steps and bathrooms renovated. A new Chef. Service therefore much improved!

This was a nice stay.
Lovely location, spacious room, hot water and clean sheets. Staff were absolutely amazing and very helpful. Also super flexible in providing me breakfast to go.
They were let down by holes in the mosquito net and the slow, slow kitchen.

Mmazipan, I feel sorry for the poor slow service and the holes in the mosquito nets. We have since replaced the nets with new ones and hired a new Chef. Customers are happier now and therefore your review so much appreciated.

Firstly.. Did not get as far as rooms bed arrangments as promised, hence all the planning of sleeping arrangments were distorted.
Secondly. Ordered Lunch at 11.30Am, got our food at 3.40pm.. this was a few sandwiches, and a few fried chickens.
Third. The rooma were filthy and stormed with mosquitos & insects.
Fourth. After complaining to the manager, and requested for at least a mosquito net.. he simply said. We dont have any nets.. maybe you give me the money. And i buy a mosquito net for you.. i paid on spot, however after a lot of noise that was compensated on the bill. Even after paying for a net.. it took 3 hours to go get a net, while the shops are a 10 min drive.. meanwhile a 6 month baby slept in our car.
Fifth. The manager & the managment is absoloutely useless.. very unprofessional staff.
Water running from the taps is Brown! Heaters for hot water showers..
The list continues however overall a very unpleasant experience at lushoto executive.

We spent one night in a clean room with beautiful beds and a good mosquito net.
That is also necessary, because there are mosquitoes!
The restaurant has a nice view, but that is before the rooms. So that you can look out onto a roof from your room.
The breakfast is more than fine.
Dinner was delicious, but as is often the case in Tanzania: order an hour in advance. And.. well, you sometimes get something different than you ordered 😜 But that's nice too.
What was absolutely great: the guide recommended by the manager.

I don't really know what to say without sounding like a jerk. A few of us ordered dinner and it took 2 hours to arrive. Not unusual for a rural lodge in Tanzania. But when the food came out it was room temperature and had zero, ZERO flavor. A fish filet was ordered and that was horrible.
Yes we hear you. Why order fish in a mountain town. Well it's because the waiter said it was delicious. So it was ordered.
They did turn on the wifi at our request so that was nice.
But ultimately I'm not sure how this hotel
Can get more than one star.

Dear Jeff, I regret for your experience at the lodge but it's now a top spot in town after all the renovations and change of management. As manager I have been here 4 years now and the place is beautiful and lush. The food is tasty and delicious. You won't regret.

How wide anyone set up such an amazing property, in one of a kind location and fail to deliver even the simplest of customer's expectations?
I don't even know where to start.
The toilets were leaking
The food... Not good and I was served with raw bread (of all the things... Raw bread???)
Dinner took forever to get served
The was no standby generator and we stayed in the dark for hours and there seemed to be no one responsible enough to sort out the mess. Guests (including myself) ended up having dinner using our phones for light. Imagine that. Management couldn't even give us candles.
Other than the view this hotel has nothing to offer
Terribly disappointed

The lodge is just amazing, with great views and good rooms for a lodge on a hill station. The rate of the rooms as per the category is very well distinguished. I suggest taking the tents as everything was fine. We had taken 10+ rooms out of which the tents were the best others had minor problems in all. The receptionist Consolata had communicated with us very well. We had a terrible experience with the restaurant, well I read the reviews on the food delays but thought to give it a try on our first day. They insisted on us to place the order by like 5-6 hours earlier and the menu looked tasty. At dinner time the food was not ready at, they just started chopping. We got served at 2300hrs with a dish we suggested them to make as the buffet was not ready at all. They need to work on the kitchen staff asap. The junior staffs are friendly and hardworking. Recommended for stay only, for food better take alternatives around.

On my Tanzania tour in September 2024 I had planned a short detour to Lushoto, as I wanted to visit the Usambara Mountains. My experience:
It's a small cozy town with nice and helpful people and hiking through the landscape is great.
The hotel complex is beautiful with many amenities and nicely furnished rooms. I especially enjoyed sitting outside on the terrace in front of my room in the evening. The breakfast is very rich and delicious.
About the journey I was extremely unsure about bus timetables and how to book tickets. You can hardly find any reliable information or even timetables online. On site, however, it is quite easy to book a bus ticket (in my case from Moshi, but also from Arusha) and there is also a very comfortable direct bus from Lushoto to Dar es Salaam. The bus rides are quite long (from Moshi to Lushoto about 5 h in a very full bus and then to Dar es Salaam about 7 h), but also entertaining and you are rewarded with a very nice landscape view on the way from Mombo to Lushoto.
The bus company from Lushoto to Dar es Salaam is Kiluwa. It makes several stops in Dar es Salaam and ends at the (huge) Mbezi Magufuli Bus Terminal. To buy a ticket, you need a Tanzanian mobile number, so it's best to get a sim card beforehand.
You can book a guide for the hikes, which is worthwhile because there are many interesting “secret paths” through the forest. I had a guide, called Costa, he has a nice tourist office in the center and a store with handmade souvenirs at very fair prices.
I am glad to have made this detour and would love to come back for a whole week, unfortunately I had only planned 2 full days, which was far too short.

My team and I visited the lodge from Dar for a team building event and had an amazing time. The conference facilities catered for our needs and food served was hearty and delicious too. From the housekeeping staff to the waiters, we were met with pleasant attitudes which only added to our positive experience. As you can imagine waiting on a team of 20 can be tasking. Those of us that stayed in the tented luxury rooms had to deal with cooler temperatures at night but were also given extra blankets to take cover from the chilled nights. They also have a f'farm-house' that's been there from colonial days that offers cozy deluxe rooms!!! This was a key highlight for me given that I enjoy history. The management organized tour drives during our weekend stay and packed lunch boxes- a good consideration for the places we visited only provided for picnic-like eating. Lushoto offers amazing scenery and calm and a stay at this hotel in a valley only makes for an even more amazing visit to the Usambara mountains.
