Nice quiet place but not much to do and a windy, narrow road up from the main road with 4WD needed for the last bit. Good, efficient staff and quite tasty food. I went on the hike to the waterfall with the highlight being the different people we met on the way. Could be improved by putting in a shower curtain, providing a bath mat and hangers and other small details. They only accept cash

A very nice hotel in the Usambaras. The rooms are kept simple but very clean, because of the cold you get hot water bottles in the evening. The staff is very friendly and always tried to fulfill our wishes. The nature around the hotel is beautiful, an insider tip. Food in the restaurant is okay, there is still some room for improvement. All in all, highly recommended, we'd love to come back.

A fitting name for the hotel.
It does feel like you're in Switzerland.
Staff is really helpful and food very tasty.
We visited with family and totally enjoyed the peaceful environment and lush greenery, especially after coming from the city.
We had a very good time and cant wait to visit again.

While the location is nice, the place has a cold feeling to it, rooms are pretty bare, little attention paid to detail, no atmosphere. On the nice side, the bungalows with two rooms have a fireplace between the rooms. Much nicer accommodations near by is the Mueller lodge. While we did not stay there, the old style building with a lot of beautiful woodwork, is beautiful and the garden lush with lots of flowers.

We booked this hotel with a company in Kenya and the company was good on their side but the hotel was too far from the town and main highway as we were heading to Arusha with workmates. The hotel is good, Food good too.
Its not worth for a night at all.

My overall experience with the staff at Swiss farm was horrible. First I was quoted a price based on the entire cottage. Then after spending two nights here, when I was ready to check out they brought me the bill with outrageous Amounts. I was quoted $100 for a chicken that was under cooked. Over all the staff including the manager are scam artist. If you are planning on visiting this place please be Careful because they have a tendency of price gouging and leaving you stranded. My experience at this location was beyond horrible. When I requested to speak with an Authority figure I was told his not available and was threatened by staff. I just don't have words that can describe this horrible experience.

Very sorry and disappointed to hear this however based on how we operate we have menu cards in the rooms and in the dinning area with food prices. How is it possible that you can be quoted 100 USD for chicken what kind of chicken is this? Also who did you make your reservation through? They should have quoted you the price for accommodation before your arrival. Its either booking.com or us. Please forward us your reservation email and a copy of this invoice that was presented to you when you checked out. Your full guest name that you used to check into our hotel. And as the owners we will take responsibility to see how we can refund you on whatever amount that was overcharged. Call +255 715 700 813 email on info@swiss-farm-cottage.co.tz. If you made a booking through us you would have our contacts, our website has all contacts when you had a complaint you could call us directly If our staff threatened you like you claim when you asked for an authority figure. If you have the name of our staff who did so please provide it to us. You identity on the review is also hidden. So far we have no record of this guest visiting us and we are yet to find out if this claim is real. So to all our guests out there, we strongly recommend you ignore this review.

stayed there as a couple for 3 nights. found the place actually really nice. had a double room with shared living and dining room. payed 40 usd each for the night, incl breakfast. food was nice but too expensive. can't bring your own food, not even a snack. you pay for every little thing extra. all in all, neat place, too expensive, think old charme is gone.

We stayed at Swiss farm cottage for 2 nights on our honeymoon this summer. The place was very picturesque and the cottage clean and comfortable. We were glad of the blankets in the cottage as it got very cold late afternoon/ evening! The food was great, good hearty portions so don't order too much! About 20 minute drive from lushoto so be aware that you cannot walk into town but we liked being away from it all. We felt that the guided walk from Swiss farm cottage, although beautiful, was a bit overpriced.

Definitely worth a visit.

Turned up unnanounced, great place to stay, discount if staying more than one night. Temperature fell to 14c at night so they lit a fire for us! Great home cooked food, beef stroganoff at Tz shillings 16000 is one of the best I have tasted.

Local treks available. More accomodation being built, probably open new bit in July?

A group of us stayed here overnight, and our first impressions were good.

The cottage we were given has a lovely main room which is beautifully laid out with a big dining table, and a cosy seating area near a fireplace. To the side of the main room is a pretty wooden structure which holds all the kitchen necessaries. Beyond this, however, lay two sparsely furnished, cold bedrooms, with VERY basic ensuite bathrooms (and cheap toilet paper!). No heating facilities in the bedrooms or bathrooms, and Lushoto can get very cold. We were freezing, especially in the morning as the fire we'd built the previous night had gone out.

The worst part of the whole stay, however, was the food; it was awful. Tasteless, and extremely expensive. The wine was also very expensive. In years gone by, it used to be difficult to get supplies in Tanzania, both due to transportation, and also because of a lack of availability, but this is no longer the case, so there's no real excuse for bad food!

The only really positive part of this is the wonderful, warm, helpful and smiling staff. They so wanted to make sure we were looked after, and comfortable. if you decide to visit, do so for the staff and the location. Just be warned that the roads are terrible at the moment, so it's a bit of an arduous drive from the main roads, at the moment.

Thank you for your helpful reviews.I personally apologize for all the discomfort you had.I had been away due to some personal issues that are now resolved. So for you and all our future visitors,we promise you that we will work on these problems such as food,as the chef cook herself was away with me as we happen to be family. We shall work on our wine prices, and with time on room heating facilities, though most people would think the fire place and blankets are enough. Please do not be threatened to visit us again. We are aware that without you customers we are nothing.
