No, I'm wrong, it was the 7th time! In fact my plan is to come back in Mambo every year. Just because it is the most beautiful spot in the world. And no place in Tanzania where the food is so unique. And good! I'm deeply in love with MamboViewPoint. But remember: don't stay there for just one night. Feel the vibe of MamboViewPoint. And do all the incredible hikes!!

We spent 3 nights (2 at luxury tent, 1 at cottage) at Mambo View Point with our 8 month old during Christmas. Management and staff is very helpful, view are breathtaking and food is truly amazing (they are very flexible in terms of your dietary restrictions!). Both luxury tent and cottage were very clean and comfortable (they have really warm blankets!). We had two short walks with guides (around the village and rain forest) - both were interesting (remember about sunscreen even if you think there is no sun). The owners and manager do a great job there supporting the village. Highly recommended!

After a long bus journey from Arusha we arrived in Lushoto and were picked up by a friendly taxi driver who answered our questions as we were going up the mountains. When we set foot in Mambo View late in the afternoon, the view first struck us. That vast expanse of land ahead of us was breathtaking. Then came the building and bedrooms we stepped into: so simple, open and welcoming. Dagmara and the office team were friendly. We were shown to our rooms. We had been upgraded to a cottage, a vast and pretty ‘eagle nest’ hanging off the cliff with two huge bedrooms and equally large bathrooms. I loved the attention to detail - the bedside lamps a small but significant addition. We stayed two nights and had dinner, lunch and breakfast. All our meals were delicious. It was freshly made and there was a great selection of local dishes. A great open fire was bburning in the centre of the room. We ate at large communal tables and met some really lovely people. During the day we went on two hikes with our lovely guide Isaac. We walked around the cliff edge and the village of Mambo. In the afternoon we went down the valley to see some ancient caves. Isaac answered our questions and told us about his life and the life of the communities that live in those mountains. In the morning, two Mambo residents had started a fire outside our cottage in order to heat the water for our showers. Like everything, the energy used for the heating is eco-friendly. The water is processed onsite, there are solar panels and it fully deserves its name eco lodge. But Mambo is more than that. Behind Mambo there is a vision and a dream which Myriam and Herman have made come true. It is a small but vibrant community based on a social and economic system which defies today’s capitalist world. It should be used as a model. It embodies ideas and ideals and proves a new, fairer world is possible. Being there is an enlightening, almost spiritual experience.. Mambo works with the local residents in everything it does. They help with the cooking, the driving, the cleaning, the maintaining, the building, the logistics and the visits. As Herman said rather the aim is to trade rather than aid. Moreover, Mambo View is also involved with development projects to guide, advise and help with education, self-subsistance, agriculture, infrastructure. I feel so fortunate that I was told we should stay there. I feel so happy that I went with my three children, all young adults. I hope it will inspire them. Thank you everyone at Mambo for a wonderful and inspirational stay.

Everything here is made to appreciate the nature, forest and the view. The lodges are built in a way you feel the only one in this splendid place. You can relax, walk around in the mountains, through the villages not yet touched by tourism. In the night monkeys in the trees and in the day calm of a tropical garden. Local food, really tasty. Many options for walking activities to discover the region. In the morning you can see Kilimanjaro far away. The lodges are simple but comfortable. If you feel like spending some time out of civilisation, surrounded by nature but still in comfort don’t hesitate. I have stayed a few days and I will return. Dagmara who takes care of the place is a special person. She will advise you on everything. The staff is helpful and smiling. The second day you feel already at home.

Mambo ViewPoint is built by local craftsmen and local materials. It's absolutely stunning. The room we were in was very spacious with full glass windows and an a-ma-zing view! We spend a couple of days here to enjoy the beautiful area and did several hikes, but also had time to read some books and sit by the fireplace. We were lucky enough to be there on a Thursday, market day in Mambo, which was a colourful event. Staff is very lovely and helpful too. The owners of the lodge are social entrepreneurs and have a warm hart for the local community. More reason to stay here. We had an amazing stay and will definitely return to Mambo ViewPoint. When planning a trip to the Usumbara mountains make sure to put Mambo ViewPoint on your list of must-stay accommodations.
