Some places just grab you by the heart strings as soon as you set foot there… And so it was with Quatermains, when I visited with a friend in October 2014. At that time, I knew I had to come back with my family, to enjoy having the whole place to ourselves. This dream came true in April 2019 when I brought them all with me to celebrate a big birthday of mine. Couldn’t have been more perfect – from the breath-taking morning game drives, to the fantastic cooked breakfasts, to the lazy afternoon naps, to the sundowner-enriched evening game drives. Craig, JJ, and Kyle – you were amazing. Welcomed back to the boma with hot cocoa laced with Amarula, drying out and warming up at the fire. Fantastic braai, kudu & cream, beer-can chicken dinners, with our new friends from the camp! The bonhomie at Quatermains was second to one, the laughs flowed unabated – as did the rain, for three days... But the tents stayed dry, the water bottles kept our feet warm, and wool blankets insulated us while we took in phenomenal sights that you wouldn’t see in the sunshine – like back-backed jackals and yellow mongooses jumping and leaping after alates. Copulating lions, wrestling giraffes, nesting spiders – all of it was just breath-taking. I couldn’t imagine doing a safari adventure in any other style – Julie & Riaan, and all your team, you're absolute stars……
We joined Rhian, Craig & Wesley in the Bush for this amazing experience in the heart of the wonderful Eastern Cape. This camp is just incredible, a real hats off to what they do here! A must do when in the best Game viewing area of South Africa & it will not let you down. The team have so much information to share with you whilst on the game drives, along with engaging in real conversation back at camp even whilst experiencing a “monkeys wedding” and an awesome “Braai”. It is impossible to stay here and experience the Bush as it should be without having the most fantastic time. A real once in a life time opportunity. Thank you guys! Given the number of 5 star reviews we arrived with very high expectations and, I'm delighted to say, these were exceeded! We saw the big 5 and lots of other animals as well. We debated whether to stay for 2 or 3 nights and we are so glad we opted for 3, there's so much to see. Great guides and delicious food. Loved it!!!
We spent two nights in the camp. IT really is exceptional. A very cordiale welcome warms you up for the rest of the adventure. We dus 4 game drives with different guides, each with his own style. We had awesome encounters with many animals in the beautiful park. It's authentic roads and tracks, taken in a Landrover add a lot of flavor to the experience. Enjoying the exceptional sighting of a lioness hunting a group of antilopes was the cherry on the cake. Good meals and company compliment the stay at the camp. We thank the wonderful team of Quatermain 1920 Camp for the great time.
We spent the last 3 nights of our South African trip at this. wonderful camp - a back to nature experience with a very comfortable tent minus electricity so it felt really authentic. The staff here are wonderful and so welcoming - game drives are amazing and the food incredible considering it is all cooked on a wood fire, even to the extent of having home made bread and rolls. Just having 6 guests means you get to know your fellow travellers really well and one of the guides always hosts the evening meal so we had interesting chats over copious wine after the late afternoon game drive. We absolutely loved it and felt like we were saying goodbye to true friends when we left. Thanks to Riaan, Julie, Craig, Lungi, Eric, Ace and the other staff who made our stay so enjoyable.
