Unforgettable experience of staying in hanok (traditional Korean house). Despite our worries, futons were very comfortable to sleep, and the sound of crickets outside during nighttime helped to relax perfectly. Room isn't large, but it's well equipped. Bathroom is comfortable and has shower. WiFi was pretty reliable and fast. Neighbours were quiet and polite (which is good with so thin walls). The communication with administrators was clear, fast and polite - thank you!

We had a great stay at GaEunChae. The location is perfect, right in the middle of the Hanok village and walking distance from a number of sites and museums. The host was easy to communicate with. Our room was beautiful and had everything we needed. Would stay again.

The host is friendly, speaks good English, and is welcoming. There is a mini-fridge and a hair dryer. Ondol floor heating worked well. Space heater also provided. Check-in is easy during off hours with a code key. Nice pretty place. Jeonju itself is great and if it is your first time I recommend a guided food and drink tour one evening. Also a must for beer lovers is Nomadic brewing, which has both a main location and a small taproom in the hanok that also serves house-roasted pour-over coffee. Overall a good stay. The reasons I cannot give a full five stars: Like other hanok houses it has a cold, wet bathroom. It would be so nice to just separate the WC and sink from the shower. I would make some other suggestions to the owner to make the place more comfortable: Bath towels. The hand towels provided are not sufficient for bathing. Provide heating in the bathroom. If the floor heating could be extended in there, even better. Shelves or anything to put stuff on besides the top of the minibar. Real cups. The paper cups are tacky and wasteful. The price is high for the level of amenities. Unfortunately there are few (if any) hanok houses with comfy bathrooms and spiffy design elements. That is too bad bc there would be real potential to provide a more upscale experience. I would gladly pay more for it.

If you are even considering whether to do a hanok stay or not, consider no further and do the stay - absolutely memorable and worthwhile. It gives the feel of what it would have been like staying in a hanok, but with all the trappings of a modern hotel (heating, hot water, even the magic toilets 😂). We loved the location and the stay - would absolutely recommend it. YC and his sister were also great hosts keeping in close contact with us throughout and even calling a taxi for us on the last day. I would give 6 stars if I could.

This lovely traditional Hanok building is located in the hanok village. Down a quiet lane so no sound after evening falls but 2 minutes away from the living shops, stalls & restaurants. Our host YK was helpful, even before we arrived - answering questions & giving advice via What's App chat. He also sent details of local restaurants to try, the type of food & directions to find them. The room was a traditional Hanok with futon beds on the floor - which has under floor heating if evenings are cool. The room has kettle, fridge, TV, air con & the separate bathroom/wet room has shower & toilet, with toiletries provided. As mentioned by other guests, towels are provided & are hand sized towels, however, the host is happy to provided as many as needed & there is an access cupboard for supplies if you need more. I would suggest if you can't cope with this, take a travel towel or buy one in Korea. We didn't find it a problem. The hanok is surrounded by various attractions/sights that are within easy walking distance. Our host helped sort onward travel back to Seoul & also checked we were all OK & didn't need further help.

Wow - what an experience! I'm so glad I stayed at Gaeunchae. The location is fantastic and right in the center of the hanok village. The staff was extremely helpful - they were super accessible via WhatsApp (both before my trip and during my stay) - and provided numerous suggestions for things to do, attractions to visit, and restaurants to dine at. I loved being able to stay in a traditional house and found the accommodation to be very clean and comfortable.

We stayed at Geunchae 2 and it was exactly as advertised. We had the family room for 6 people, but I think just 2-3 people in the room with everyones' luggages will be the max. number if you stay in our type of room. The room is very clean and the bathroom too. The bathroom need a special shoutout because not only that it's clean but it had a heated toilet and all. Amenities is very basic just small towels, soap, and shampoo. So you have to bring your own toothbrush. The location is right in the middle of the hanok village area. There are lots of shops, restaurants, and places to rent hanbok around the place. The owner husband also speaks good English and could be reached through Whatsapp or wechat. Overall, we really enjoy our stay here. We had the experience of the traditional hanok house with the comfort of modern toilet 😊

We stayed in Gaeunchae 2 (same owner) - excellent location in the hanok village. No parking possible on site (we were driving) but close enough to the public parking lot where there is ample parking (except on weekend evenings when it can get busy) lovely owner - so helpful with very proactive whatsapp messages on restaurant and sightseeing recommendations. room is exactly as in the photos - very basic, no windows but nice and warm with a modern bathroom. We were out the whole day and only in the room to sleep so it was fine with us. Convenient to have a microwave outside the room. only (slight) gripe was the very small towels provided

Was very clean. Host speaks very fluent English and gave us many tips via Whatsapp. Also on which bus we could take back to Busan and when to catch it. You can explore the hanok village and easily come back for a rest! One tip: might want to bring a towel to this place, the towels are a bit small. But still manageable! I stayed at Gaeunchae I but I believe Gaeunchae II would be just as good.

First of all, I was surprise at how much we enjoyed sleeping on the floor. The place was clean and neat and well-maintained. The location was perfect - right in the middle of Hanok heaven. The owner (YK Byun) was extremely attentive to our needs and spoke very good English. I would highly recommend this place to any English-speaking foreigner who might need help with dining recommendations or directions or any other lifeline. We had a very special need in that we got lost on Godeoksan mountain while hiking and I called YK and he arranged for Fire/Rescue personnel to come and get us. I could have called them directly at 119 but their English was not as good as YK's. We are eternally grateful to the Jeonju Fire/Rescue guys and to YK for helping us out.
