Although we only stayed at the lodge one night, it was still much better than some of the other accommodation we had stayed in up to that point. We went on a boat cruise with our guide; Albert, who was amazing and the boat driver; Captain Jackson. We managed to see a wild elephant, which as I could assume was... More

This lodge is 2.5 hours by speed boat from Sandakan. The boat trip is great fun but very very noisy - wear ear plugs at a minimum! The lodge itself is in the middle of the rainforest overlooking the river on which you travel for many wildlife excursions - see below. It is quite dated and simple but the staff... More

Only spent one night here in two chalets with two young children. It was a nice next step from Abai, our previous stay, as it is very similar but a little larger and so it is more able to create an evening atmosphere. We loved the compulsory sarong; the boys were less impressed but another lovely family memory. The rooms... More

Having stayed at another SI resort further down the Kinabatangan river (at Abai) my immediate reaction when arriving for a brief meal at the Kinabatangan riverside lodge enroute to lahad Datu was it felt more touristy and larger It's setting is in a more developed area too (Sachau) which was one of first areas opened up to tourism - due... Dear MJH1, Thank you for your feedback. Yes, Sukau is more developed compare to Abai due to accessibility and tourism development. Now Sukau is slowly developing into a small town with school, clinic and small markets area. Abai still very remote and the local young people mostly will go to Sukau or Sandakan for further study and job employment. Cheers.... More

Just spent one night here, came in by river from Sandakan, about 3 hour journey. In hindsight as only 1 night it would possibly have made more sense to stay at the Abai Jungle Lodge which was similar standard & closer. However, we really enjoyed our stay, accommodation was average in standard which we found perfect for the area, the... More

We stayed here for one night after the Abai lodge and before heading to Tabin wildlife reserve. The rooms are basic but clean and we managed fine without aircon. We liked the wearing of sarongs at dinner and it was nice that everyone participated. The food was pretty good and they happily catered for vegetarians. The highlight is the boat... More

SI Tours owns and runs this lodge, MY nature resort in Sandakan and Abai Jungle lodge. This organisation needs a major shake up! The rooms in this lodge and at Abai are basic and if you want air conditioning you pay an extra 100 ringit per night - which you are not informed about until you get there. We were... More

We were only one night at the Riverside Lodge - but we wish we had spent two nights so that we could enjoy the wildlife along the river a bit more. There is a lovely "patio" at the jetty where you can just relax under large ceiling fans. The rooms are basic, but clean. Our room was very hot. You... More

Stayed here briefly after Abai Jungle Lodge. Our guide (from SI Tours) offered the chance for a longer cruise to look for elephants, so we only arrived back after dark, and left after an early breakfast the next day. We stayed in rooms without air conditioning, which were comfortable despite the heat. Beds were good, and good insect screening meant... More

My wife and I started our trip down the Kinabatangan at the Abai Jungle Lodge, and then to the Kinabatangan Riverside Lodge. The wildlife was fantastic, and we were so thankful to have Akok from S.I Tours as our guide. Knowledgeable, gracious, and had a good sense of humour. His ability to spot and identify wildlife was incredible. We would... More
