Beautiful Lodge run by the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust to benefit the Kibwezi forest, wild animals and special needs elephants. Such a wonderful place and visiting with the elephants 3 times per day is magical and fills the heart 💕🐘. The lunch feeding is at a big water hole where you can see many wild elephants and there interactions with the orphan elephants. The lodge is beautiful, very comfortable with a lovely pool and delicious meals. Everyone was so nice and professional!!

For supporters of the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust wishing to visit the elephant orphans in the Kibwezi Forest, the Umani Springs lodge is conveniently located a short walk from Umani stockade. The lodge itself is incredible—stylish and extremely comfortable with a very friendly staff. From your patio you will enjoy a front row view of antelope, buffalo, vervets, baboons, and of course, elephants. Like all of the Sheldrick eco-lodges, Umani Springs is remote, and visitors must bring their own food. We visited in February 2020 as part of an excellent trip arranged by Beverly Perry at Orphan Trail Safaris in the UK. Beverly, who is passionate about elephants and Kenya, specializes in safaris that visit all the Sheldrick eco-camps. She took care of everything—transportation, itinerary, food, lodging. There are so many things to see in the Kibwezi Forest—and so many elephants to meet. It was great to have Beverly as our guide and friend along the way.

I just had a wonderful stay at the Umani Springs Camp. This review covers: (1) Umani Springs Camp, which is owned and operated by the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, (2) Orphan Trail Safaris, operated by Beverly Perry, who organized the trip as part of a larger package, and (3) Maniago Safaris, the touring company who supplied the driver, safari vehicle, and all logistical arrangements. (1) Umani Springs camp -- Wonderful camp. The rooms have solid walls with big screened windows. Some of the rooms have indoor toilets and a tub en suite. And others have a private outdoor toilet and shower. The food is really, really good. The grounds consist of a gorgeous communal dining hall and adjacent lounge and deck overlooking a beautiful natural surround. (2) Orphan Trail Safaris -- Beverly organizes a wonderful package for those of us who adore elephants, and in particular, the work that the Sheldricks do. She's been leading tours to all of the Sheldrick properties for years. She knows the Sheldricks, their staff, and the elephants. You really get a front row seat with the elephants! She's got a great personality for leading a group too. She's the type of person that can relate to anyone. And last but not least, she's very organized. I highly recommend an adventure with Orphan Trail Safaris if you're looking for an ethical and wonderful experience with elephants. (3) Maniago Safaris -- Absolutely stellar service. Peter was our driver, and he really went above and beyond to answer all of our questions and make us feel safe for the entire trip. He helped me with logistical issues, such as finding the easiest way to change a $20 into smaller denominations of Kenyan shillings, so I could tip the staff at the hotel I stayed at the first night. He also knows all about and loves elephants, which is a big plus! And his driving skills are incredible. This was a fantastic experience for me, I recommend it to anyone who is looking for an ethical way to see elephants, particularly if you are a foster parent at the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust.

I just got back from Umani Springs and have to say that I just loved it. The best part about it was the interaction with the elephants which are being re-released into the wild. I particularly loved feeding them acacia buds. The staff was wonderful. The chef was a master at preparing delicious meals from the goods we brought him. The rooms were and beautifully decorated. They were so comfortable and so functional. It was very close to the elephant stockade. We were also close to the waterhole.

The house is beautifully furnished and very spacious, with 3 sleeping units and 1 huge lounge and dining area (there is also a separate giant kitchen building). The soaking tubs were fabulous and the outdoor showers were clean and large. The staff were very helpful and courteous, and the cooks performed miracles with our somewhat limited ingredients. Lovely views, and nice pool, although the water was too cold for me to stay in long. Wonderful stay!
