I was lucky enough to score three nights in the brand new Secret Garden Deluxe Bungalows!

The room is completely constructed out of bamboo - walls, roof, floor, furniture. It's really well made and looks awesome. The bed is big and very comfortable. Wifi is strong and easily the best I've had in Indonesia. The whole bungalow is enclosed in a gated area and has it's own courtyard and beautiful gardens with water fountain and pathways. The bathroom is a separate building behind the main room. Great hot shower and large area for everything else.

The Secret Garden accommodation is looked after by the staff of Big Fish Diving, easily some of the most friendly people on Nusa Lembongan. You've got access to the nice clean pool and the Yoga Shack too.

Will definitely be staying here next time I'm on Nusa Lembongan, and will be recommending it to all my friends and family.

With a location where you can have or find all you need in walking distance, Secret Garden Bungalows works perfectly for the budget traveller.

The breakdown:

Bungalows - A clean spacious room with an open air bathroom. Average size terrace comfortably fitting a couple chairs a hammock and a drying rack. As stated in other reviews, there's only one outlet so bring a multi-plug. A regular osculating fan is in the room but there's no mosquito net. So be prepared to be eaten if you like the windows open at night. If you want your bungalow cleaned, you do need to ask as it's not done routinely everyday. A pool (which is clean) is conveniently located in the middle of the yard along with a Yoga shack just off to the side. WIFI is limited.

Dive Centre - Big Fish Diving is a part of the bungalows. Can get very busy so booking in advance would be recommended. Overall, a great group to dive with. Twice a week there's marine presentations by Aquatic Alliance in the yoga shack. Definitely go to these as they're very informative.

Out & About - With a central location, you have many options for food within walking distance or a short motorbike ride. You can hire a motorbike in close by shops at decent rates if you have it in you to bargain a little (from what we were told, there's only one policeman on the island so an International driving license isn't really necessary). I recommend it as it's great to check out the sites around Nusa Lembongan & Nusa Ceningan. And it gives you broader options for beaches and food. Keep in mind, around Nusa Lembongan it's pretty much seaweed farms so it's not the most convenient to swim on the main beaches within walking distance from SGB.

Overall, it's a great place with great people. We stayed ten nights and felt right at home.

I chose to stay in Secret Garden because of good reviews here and elsewhere, and because of their scuba diving operation. The diving was excellent. If you're certified, you should definitely do some diving in Bali.

Secret Garden is a bit far from where the ferry drops you off. If you're travelling with a suitcase it will be a hassle, because you can't exactly roll it along in the sand. You'll have to carry it, and it's a long walk. I would have been lost if I didn't meet another traveler also staying at Secret Garden. To their credit, Secret Garden scheduled someone to meet us at the ferry. Unfortunately we missed the first ferry of the morning and had no way to let them know, so that was our fault.

The property looks gorgeous, and the house dog is adorable. Each bungalow is equipped with a hammock on the porch, which was a welcome addition. The staff is exceedingly friendly and accommodating. The bungalow we got was spacious, but quite simple. There really weren't any amenities besides the awesome hammock. The outdoor bathroom and shower sounded nice when I was booking the place, but when I used it I wasn't very enamored. There was no hot water, which despite Bali's warm climate, didn't turn out to be a good thing. There were no privacy concerns with the outdoor bathroom, unless you count the numerous hungry mosquitoes. I would invariably be attacked whenever I was using the bathroom for more than a few seconds.

Secret Garden would be great for backpackers on a budget, and anyone looking for a place to stay with a great scuba diving operation. If you're looking for a little more creature comforts, look elsewhere.

Nusa Lembongan itself was pretty boring. There wasn't much to do, and the only decent beach is pretty far from where most of the hotels are. The beach where the ferry is is used for seaweed farming and mooring boats. Otherwise I think it would be gorgeous. Go there for diving, but don't expect much else. When planning your visit, make sure you're able to make the last ferry from the mainland before you book a hotel on Lembongan. I overlooked this detail and we arrived in Bali a little too late to catch the last boat. I still had to pay for the first night I had booked.

Didn't book in advance, but walked in and found a free room quite lucky as they were full most of the days during my stay. After the first night, decided to stay for a week here, liked the relax atmosphere here. A twin bed room 150,000 for single occupation is good for budget traveler like me. The location is just great, quite and close to the busy beach, which is even better, as the beach is not swim-able, I enjoyed so much swim in their lovely pool everyday. Local staffs are friendly but the owner was a bit cold.

I dived with them for one day. Dive masters are doing things right but lack of passion and was a bit disappointed they put me into less experienced group which I couldn't enjoy fully my dive due to buddies quickly low on air in strong current. It wasn't their fault but I think the operator should have better concern and arrangement for the guests consider we pay to get the best value of money. I was thinking to do more diving, expressed my interests in some dive sites but the operator didn't being very helpful for arrangement. They were fully booked the following days, which turned out to be fortunate. I found another dive center on the beach with much more personal concerned and fun, truly enjoyed a lot. On my days staying but not diving with them, people still greeted me politely but nothing more than that.

Despite this, Peter and Helen the researchers couple gave excellent marine life and manta talks on everyTuesday and Thursday nights, which I strongly recommend everyone to attend. The talks are interesting and inspiring, you learned a lot from them.

The yoga shack is very impressive though I didn't do yoga. Breakfast is ok, for lunch, you can find a simple warung with super quality nasi campur for only10,000 (of the the cheapest on island) at the back of this place, just ask the staff.

No free wifi here is another little downside, but you have cafe with wifi nearby.

Tips: If you are not into motorcycle, you can rent bicycle at rental place close to beach, cycling around Lembongan and Ceningan is great experience.

We stayed here last month.
We are no diving fanatics and unfortunately we didn't feel very welcome here.
The pool is sometimes used for lessons and you get the impression they don't really like you to be there.
Rooms are clean and big. Nice poach.
Breakfast is not included in the price, which makes this place rather expensive.
Personnel not very friendly and one girl is constantly trying to get commisions for all sorts of services (rental of motorbikes, boats etc)

Booked this place as my partner wanted to do yoga and we both wanted to do a dive at manta ray point (unfortunately this wasn't possible due to weather ) . You have yoga shack , big fish diving and secret garden all in 1 compound but the relationship between the 3 is disjointed to say the least .
We booked direct via a lady called Andrea who is situated in the reception office . Communication was professional but it became apparent on arrival that she was more involved with the dive school rather than the accommodation . (No show in and majority of questions were met with response "ask the staff"?e accommodation it appears is managed by local staff . All of which we met were friendly but unenthusiastic. We saw a few dive instructors about but once they had crossed the "border" from dive school to accommodation area it was almost an instant head down so you won't ask them any questions . I dont need to be entertained but a bit more interaction with guests would have been nice . The place really lacks any kind of atmosphere. If we had been diving this may have been different but we'll never know (notice other reviews say the same ) . Accommodation was basic but for 250000 per night expectations weren't high . The outside seating area and circular bed were good . The fan , although rusty was effective . The bathroom however was filthy . It doesn't need a scrub, it needs bleaching and jet washing between the tiles . The toilet was moldy and the flush mechanism no longer fit for purpose (not pleasant ) . As I said don't expect a lot for the price but no excuse for cleanliness at any price . There was a sign saying to let them know in "the unlikely event of any issues with room " but it's pretty pointless if they think the bathroom was acceptable in the first place.
WiFi was pointless and shouldn't be advertised . I know it wasn't because of overusage by other people as we were the only people staying at secret garden on our last night !
There are positives about this place . Good selection of books available , pool and grounds are nice and well kept . Location is good for sunset and bars /restaurants in village. If you are getting this accommodation as a free add on whilst doing a dive course then fair enough, otherwise go elsewhere.

Response from Big-Fish-Manager, General Manager at Secret Garden Bungalows
Responded Jun 6, 2016
The only time I have ever heard any one say "Äsk the staff" is when people ask us about Laundry or motor bike rental both of which we don't want to get involved with and pass over to the local staff. We have no control what so ever over the WIFI. We pay the very expensive fee every month and hope like everybody else on the island that it works. I'm sure if we didn't advertise it you would complain about that as well. Your comments about the bathroom are important to us and sorry we couldn't address those issues while you were here or offer you an alternative room. Unfortunately with so little rain this year the water is becomes slowly more salty and it plays havoc with the flush mechanism. That doesn't excuse the cleanliness though and we will address than point.

The hotel is really beautiful, also the management and the dive instructors are friendly and helpful. There is one thing that really annoyed me. The young lady in the kitchen was very unfriendly. No 'good morning', no smile and extremely unwilling behaviour. And don't buy a ferry ticket from them. They try to get a 100.000 rupiah higher price than the usual price for western people. Also they promised me a direct ferry to Gili Meno instead of telling me it stopped in Padangbai and only goes to Gili Travangan.

Decent place to stay, very value for money with simple accommodation, is clean with nice-smelling sheets, but still doing some upgrading. No A/C, bathrooms are quite open, and the room could also get a bit stuffy in the day time. Also, do not expect strong WIFI connection in the room, we had to go out by the poolside to get signal. However, one of the guys was very nice to offer a makeshift rack for us to hang our clothes as the hanging rack area is still under construction. So thumbs up for service! Thank you for making us feel at home! Overall I enjoyed my stay and will be back if I were on a budget.

My partner and I headed to Nusa Lembongan with little idea of what to expect and we were blown away! We had originally planned to stay only for two nights, but spent an entire week there. Secret Garden Bungalows offer exceptional value for money, while being a fun and social place to stay - or completely private, if that's what you are in the mood for.

The room itself is quite simple, but has everything you need including coat hangers and ample space to store your luggage. Our bungalow had an outdoor bathroom which was perfect as the weather is always warm here.

The pool is one of the best features. It is really deep because they do diving lessons in it too, but there are a few loungers so you can just hang by the pool. The slackrope is a fun challenge although I was terrible at it and it was slightly damaging to my self esteem!

Nusa Lembongan is a beautiful island itself with a lot to offer, especially in terms of diving, snorkelling and surfing. If you have the time, rent a motorbike and head to Nusa Ceningan. The Blue Lagoon there is absolutely stunning.

We found all of the staff at Secret Garden Bungalows to be exceptionally friendly and we had a lovely stay.

My only word of caution is to BOOK IN ADVANCE! This place gets booked up quickly and we unfortunately had to move accommodation after two nights as they were booked out for the week. That includes the diving course, too.

It's a good sign when somewhere is so busy you have to move, but was a bit of a shame for us.

There's also the Yoga Shack on site which is perfect if you want to do some yoga.

I should mention the WIFI is very slow, but it's not really why you come to a beautiful island like this. If you do need some decent WIFI the Bali Organic Cafe a minute down the main road has the best WIFI I found on Nusa L.

Thanks for everything, see you next time!
