Our stay at Moulin du Roc was nothing short of spectacular. The inn feels like walking into a dream. The inn is nestled next to a quietly flowing river, in the country side, it feels secluded and special. Once inside the inn, you notice the exquisite furnishings, and the warm greetings of the people who work there.

The restaurant has beautiful oil paintings, and apples over the tables and in the bookshelves, it feels like entering a Dutch still life painting. Very poetic, but also warm and casual.

Our room was carpeted, and very comfortable. Lamps everywhere, and a comfortable mattress and pillows. We slept very well!!! Our room had a full size bathtub, and a wonderful shower with powerful water flow, that gave a spa feeling. A very large bathroom, felt very luxurious..

Breakfasts at the inn was absolutely delicious, as was dinner. The preparation and design of the food is both comforting and complex, and the service is nothing short of excellence! I absolutely loved the apples on the tables, and the beautiful prism lighting. It made dining in the interior and on the patio to be magical experience.

It is these little touches that makes this inn so wonderful! Also the side lounge is so comfortable, they played jazz, and we sat in the lounge after dinner relaxing and taking it all in. I would have loved to have a digestif in this lounge if they offered it, something local like a walnut wine or eau de vie.

This inn feels like staying at an intimate bed and breakfast. You feel the soul and the warmth.

I am so happy we decided to stay here for 3 nights! We were a bit worried it might feel too remote, and also considered staying in Brantome, but I am so so happy we did not. Brantome is wonderful and we explored it thoroughly, but this inn made the visit to this area of the countryside memorable. Driving every night back to the inn after touring the area felt the perfect way to end the day.

We did not get a chance to play tennis, or swim in the pools, but they do offer this.

Stunning property in a historic water mill. The setting by the river Dronne is breathtaking and makes for a very relaxing stay.

Our room was comfortable and well equipped and the pool and gardens are very nice.

The downside is that some of the food and drink options were overpriced. Breakfast felt poor value for €22 (more than more expensive hotels at which we’ve stayed in France). I expect to pay a bit extra for drinks in a quality establishment, but when a simple cappuccino from the bar costs €9, you feel that guests are being fleeced. Dinner at the restaurant was very good, but the wine list was significantly more expensive than top restaurants in London.

We were charmed by le Moulin du Roc on our fist visit, 30+ years ago. It is run by the same family, with the same high standards of professionalism, charm, warmth and graciousness. Over the years, they have added some beautiful touches but have retained the essence of an historic mill. Everything is designed to make guests feel comfortable, at ease, well-cared for and surrounded by beauty. What a lovely experience. And the food is terrific.

It's expensive, but there's no mistaking this is a beautiful and unusual hotel. We received a fantastic, friendly welcome and our bedroom was very charming with a fabulous bathroom and beautiful view of the river. In the summer, with the pool and tennis courts, it would be a breathtakingly lovely place to stay. (Unfortunately, we were there in October and although most of this October has been stunning, it decided to rain that day/night)

The fact that dogs are made so welcome (they even provided blankets for them) is a bonus for those of us who have dogs.

We had a very nice meal in the restaurant too, though the description 'gastronimique experience' in their emails and website perhaps dates from the time it had a Michelin star. (To be fair though, we didn't choose any of the dishes with supplements that were on offer.) The wine list was extensive with bottles ranging from one or two at €35,00 to those costing more than €1.000,00 (for connoisseurs).

This restaurant will always hold a special place in our hearts. Our first trip was July 2019 when we had a celebratory meal for our engagement. It was not booked by myself so didn’t know what I was walking into, but I was absolutely blown away. It was an incredible setting, food and service from start to finish.

We recently returned to France for our wedding and we had our wedding reception meal here. I had great memories of this place, but this time it was even better. They prepared a special 5 course meal and I don’t think I have ever eaten such amazing cuisine. As the meal was booked by my in-laws, there were a few dishes I may not have chosen if I had read them on a menu, but every course was more lovely than the last and it was great to try things a little out of my comfort zone. The accompanying drinks were also exquisite and I will be trying to find some of the wine to take home with me.

We have just returned a week or so later for our last meal out in France, which was a surprise lunch. They asked if we had any allergies and then the rest was up to them. Once again it was fantastic.

If they ever have a truffle, foie gras pasta on the menu, I suggest you try it. It is incredible!!

I would also mention the staff. They are so friendly and excellent at their job. They all seem to speak a range of languages and were on hand throughout and seemed to predict anything we may need. They provided us with the most special day and we are so thankful.

I have seen a few slightly negative reviews and I can only assume they have left a review on the wrong restaurant. This place deserves nothing less than a 5 star rating (probably 6)

All in all, if you are anywhere near this region, you must try this place. I am sure we will return on our next trip and many more times after.

The stay at the mill is a time out with all the amenities: beautiful locality, both rooms and the catering area and the garden with pool. Professional, attentive service and fine food. However, the menu is not changed (frequently), at least not within the 4 days of my stay. Since the selection is not very large, this is a small drawback. So everything is fine - if not on the bill booking fees for my booking.com reservation would have appeared. Per day a whopping 40 euros are charged - not applicable when booking directly! Very annoying to simply roll over the costs to the guest - of course without being informed beforehand!

Dear Taugenchte, the team thanks you for your kind comments on the service at the Moulin. Our menu seemed to you to be lacking in choice throughout your stay. However, we have taken care to offer you off-the-card suggestions very quickly during your various meals. As for the reservation costs, they were included in the price that was indicated to you when you made your reservation on Booking. Our room bill corresponds to the nearest euro to what was noted on your Booking confirmation. These costs have simply been noted on your invoice, so there are no additional repercussions… We wish you a great summer. Valerie

Unfortunately, we had only booked one night here on our way north and we wish we had booked more - we absolutely loved this hotel. From the moment we arrived, when a member of the Team came out to the car park to welcome us, we had a most memorable time in this little haven of peace and tranquility.

It is the most amazing conversion of an old mill, retaining the heritage of the mill but encapsulating excellent traditional decor and furnishings in the public rooms. There is a lovely terrace/deck suspended over the river with comfortable seating ideal for a pre dinner aperitif. The restaurant had a lovely atmosphere and we were lucky enough to have amazing weather so an excellent dinner and excellent breakfast were taken on another delightful terrace next to the river. With fresh linen table clothes, lovely individual lighting on the tables and impeccable service it was an amazing experience.

The swimming pool situated in the extensive gardens reached by a small bridge over the stream added to our enjoyment of our stay.

The bedroom, again, met and exceeded all our expectations - all the facilities you needed, plus a beautiful bathroom with a large walk in shower and a jacuzzi bath. Perfect.

What a perfect place to stay on our way back to catch the ferry - it really was in our view the most perfect example of how a character hotel in the Dordogne should be, and we can't wait to return. Thank you to all the staff who made us feel so welcome.

We have just enjoyed the most wonderous weekend at Le Moulun du Roc.
We were welcomed by the most delightful and attentative staff and escorted to a splendid well appointed room with all the comforts of the best hotels we have started at.
Dinner in the starred Resturant Roda left us with nothing but shouts of brilliance.
Breakfast in the dining room was equally as special and the physical environment was mystical.
This weekend will have us ensuring that this destination will feature on all our future travel agenda to this area.
Thank you one and all for your quality, care and comforts.

We had high expectations for our 3 nights stay at Le Moulin du Roc. And yes in general our expectations were correct. A very high level of service. For us sometimes maybe a bid to high, but for others maybe perfect. It is very personal. During our holiday LMdR was the accommodation with the highest level of Covid-19 preparations.

Rooms and facilities are close to perfection and the whole atmosphere is very very comfortable.

At 2 nights we had diner. Very tasteful and high quality like the wines. But…. You can not order from the card. It only is menu and you do not know what the menu is.

Other thing is parking space is limited as also not LMdR guest can come for lunch and diner and it can happen as a sleeping guest you do not have parking space. For us it was solved by one of the staff who moved our vehicle later in the evening. So service all over and perfect for the ones who love the service in combination with luxury.

Thank you for serving us a late lunch.

A fantastic place - we have stayed here before and if there is a special occasion to celebrate or you just want a relaxing break, this is a great place to do that. The food is fantastic and there is a large selection of great wines - breakfast is perfect and the bread they serve is so good that it’s hard to resist. We will be going back and next summer we plan a dinner on their splendid terrace. The service and personnel are first class and make you feel very welcome, the rooms are lovely and our balcony looked over the river. Great 2 days

Don't know the room names but there's just one building with balcony rooms. I think there just four rooms in the main building. I had one and although they are beautiful rooms, they overlook the creek and are covered so they're not a must-have room. I'd ask for one because they are beautiful inside and they even help get your bags up the steep, steep stairs; no elevators.
