The stay at the mill is a time out with all the amenities: beautiful locality, both rooms and the catering area and the garden with pool. Professional, attentive service and fine food. However, the menu is not changed (frequently), at least not within the 4 days of my stay. Since the selection is not very large, this is a small drawback. So everything is fine - if not on the bill booking fees for my booking.com reservation would have appeared. Per day a whopping 40 euros are charged - not applicable when booking directly! Very annoying to simply roll over the costs to the guest - of course without being informed beforehand!
What can we add to what previous travellers have already written here? Unique setting, warm welcome, efficient service, gorgeous rooms, excellent cuisine ... We were here on our second honeymoon to celebrate our upcoming retirement: we couldn't have found a better place! We were offered an upgrade to suite-level. We should have reserved more nights ...
A charming old mill on the banks of the Dronne with a functioning mill wheel, a perfect setting just a short drive from the much busier Brantome. Our room appeared to have been recently refurbished and had been done so in a very tasteful and classy way. The mill is very relaxed and peaceful and is set in its own ground with a little bridge over the river to access the swimming pool and several seating areas. The staff were efficient and professional, yet friendly at the same time. And what better way to finish your day than outside on the terrace enjoying Michelin starred cuisine.
14 years ago we were married in a windmill so it seemed appropriate to celebrate our anniversary in a moulin. The service was superb and the setting was absolutely beautiful as was the hotel and the room. After a few rainy days the sun came out and we were able to enjoy the private terrace overlooking the water. A wonderful experience!
Had stayed there before and chose to do it again as we loved it then and have to say we did this time as well. Basically the hotel is an old historic windmill which has been converted into a hotel. It is situated on the river Dronne and has spacious grounds with a swimming pool and areas to sit, relax and dine. Obviously, there are internal dining areas which offer a pleasing ambiance and the food for breakfast was good while in the evening the restaurant offers fine dining opportunities ( reviewed separately). The interior is a little quirky but to us this is part of its attraction. Our room was the ‘ Sarrasin’ which offered everything we needed! A major plus is the staff. The two receptionists were excellent but all the staff were friendly and helpful which always helps when language can be a bit of a hurdle. Would recommend it to everyone!…
We have just enjoyed the most wonderous weekend at Le Moulun du Roc. We were welcomed by the most delightful and attentative staff and escorted to a splendid well appointed room with all the comforts of the best hotels we have started at. Dinner in the starred Resturant Roda left us with nothing but shouts of brilliance. Breakfast in the dining room was equally as special and the physical environment was mystical. This weekend will have us ensuring that this destination will feature on all our future travel agenda to this area. Thank you one and all for your quality, care and comforts.
Stunning property in a historic water mill. The setting by the river Dronne is breathtaking and makes for a very relaxing stay. Our room was comfortable and well equipped and the pool and gardens are very nice. The downside is that some of the food and drink options were overpriced. Breakfast felt poor value for €22 (more than more expensive hotels at which we’ve stayed in France). I expect to pay a bit extra for drinks in a quality establishment, but when a simple cappuccino from the bar costs €9, you feel that guests are being fleeced. Dinner at the restaurant was very good, but the wine list was significantly more expensive than top restaurants in London.
A super setting with the most friendly and welcoming staff. There is a wonderful ambience about the place and therefore ,it was the perfect place for us to spend our wedding anniversary. I would highly recommend both the hotel and the restaurant, which is exceptional.
We were charmed by le Moulin du Roc on our fist visit, 30+ years ago. It is run by the same family, with the same high standards of professionalism, charm, warmth and graciousness. Over the years, they have added some beautiful touches but have retained the essence of an historic mill. Everything is designed to make guests feel comfortable, at ease, well-cared for and surrounded by beauty. What a lovely experience. And the food is terrific.
We've stayed and dined at the Moulin du Roc many times and its always excellent. Fantastics rooms, brilliant service and the food is out of this world. Great to meet teh chef and thank him! We will return again and again and....
