There are very few hostels in the world offering views and serenity as incredible as Mountain Hostel. With a panorama of the Swiss Alps from our dorm window (my bed was right next to the window), this place was a relaxing way to spend several nights. Originally we had only booked one night, but this quickly turned into two, which...

This hostel was our best stay during all our months in Europe, even better than the luxury resorts we stayed at. The location and views were the best part but the hostel itself was great too. Beds are comfy enough and while showers cost a franc they are clean and well-kept. The main living area is fantastic, large enough to...

This is the second time we have stayed at the Mountain Hostel. It was a relatively less expensive way to be able to stay in the mountains and see the many sights in the area with 4 kids in tow, 7,6, 4 and 3. For the most part people were nice to the kids. We have traveled in this area...

The hostel is run by a couple and they do a pretty good job of keeping it clean and comfortable. Its also great that its one of the 2 places in Gimmelwald that had food. They have a nice kitchen and fridge that can be used for cooking. A lotof the cleaning including making up a new bed after we...

This place had it all! It's as close as you can get to the air tram, so perfect for early morning excursions. It has a breathtaking view from right off the porch, where you can eat, drink, recline, and hangout. The food at their restaurant was delicious and the portions were pretty big. I recommend the pizza and hot chocolate!...

I was a solo traveler and stayed at the mountain hostel for 2 nights. Like everything in Switzerland, it is expensive, but it is very convenient and you will have easy access to all the trails and the cable car. I booked paragliding right through the desk, and the workers were very friendly and helpful.

There is no denying that the hostel is in a beautiful location, and from the outside the building itself appears very charming. However the experience of staying there could definitely be more comfortable - in the girls' dorm you have absolutely no personal space and are essentially sharing a bed with several others; you have to pay for your time...

Visited on 22nd June 2015. Had tea and cake. Milk jug was horrible, with yellow scum stuck to side. Pointed out to waitress who said "gross", but did not apologise. Sadly I was in toilet when bill was presented, and no discount or apology offered. Whole place looked run down. Never again.
