My partner, our dog and I are road-tripping through Europe. We came across this hotel, which is the ONLY reason we drove to southern Switzerland. And we are so glad we did!
After driving for about 8km up a winding road in the mountain (thank god for me, my partner drove) we came upon the hotel...and what a beautiful sight it was! The fitness center, although small, did its job. But the spa was the best part. My only wish was that the spa area change to adult only. The view from the spa pool can’t be beat. And the water was lovely.
Breakfast was delicious and we were so grateful we could take our dog with us to the restaurant so that she didn’t have to stay in an unfamiliar room alone.
The prices of the restaurant and room service are very high (welcome to Switzerland) - but the service and quality were top notch.
I would have loved to buy a Kurhaus Cademario logo shirt, and maybe they will have these for sale next time. Because there WILL be a next time.
We visited Como while we were down south, and my partner and I agreed that Como didn’t even compare to the Cademario location of the Kurhaus.
Don’t waste your time getting a room without the view of the lake. It is breathtaking and well worth it.

Me and my boyfriend spent there the NYE and it was perfect for a relaxing new year celebration.
The spa is really nice with a salty pool and a huge pool that’s both in and outdoor and 2 saunas.
The view from the room was GREAT! I’m not really satisfied with the products provided, The hair and body wash felt a little cheap and chemical, but the sleep was awesome. In the morning we were woken up by the sun and it got really hot in the room really quickly. Definitely nice for people like me coming from the city.

Dear Alessia, thank you so much for your kind words, it really makes us happy and proud to learn that you were able to enjoy your stay in Cademario. In case this was your first stay with us, be sure to plan a visit to Cademario in other periods, such as the summer months. This is when the whole area has a lot more to offer, with excursions trails everywhere just waiting to be discovered. Best regards, Rosanna Toscani (Guest Relations)

On arrival we upgraded to a Panorama Suite (2.40) which was well worth the additional cost despite the fact that the weather was not up to our expectations. The layout is generous and the views spectacular. The restaurant serves good food but after two days we were eager to have a change and chose a restaurant elsewhere (which was a great experience suggested by the concierge). The road up to Cademario and down is quite a challenge especially with locals going at high speed. We appreciated the total calm during the night and the overall sense of hospitality.

My wife and I were very excited to visit this hotel after reading the reviews but were somewhat disappointed after spending two nights there. The welcome was extremely nice on arrival with a glass of Prosecco and we were shown to our room which was good. The first night we ate dinner in the restaurant, my wife had a shrimp cocktail with the shrimps being tough in texture and more than likely not fresh and I ordered a salad to start which was huge and thrown together without any creativity or culinary skills. I ordered the beef as a main course which was cooked as requested but despite ordering some mustard twice it arrived when I had finished the plate. We naturally asked them about the shrimps if they were fresh or frozen, we received no feedback but they didn’t ask us to pay, hence we knew the answer. The spa area is good but gets very busy and there is often no where to sit despite many towels left lying around. The Spa area facilities and gym were good which we enjoyed. One evening we had no hot water in our room so we asked at the reception if there was a problem. We were told they would check and come back to us, no one even told us until check out when we raised this again and we were informed the hotel had a problem and gave us some compensation. Overall the hotel is nice with good facilities but the management skills, attention to detail and customer service is poor. It seems they need to make some personnel changes to bring the standards of the overall experience much better. We won’t be returning.

Dear guest, we read your comments and are sorry to learn that your stay at our property was not the one you had actually anticipated and hoped for. Our main goal is to make every single guest feel at home in every respect, and it seems that it did not always happen during your stay. While we wish that your experience had had a better outcome, we still feel obliged to thank you for not just sharing a short negative message, but rather taking the time to better explain what you felt was the main problem, i.e. the need for a more attentive and proactive service towards the guests. It is through such constructive criticism that we are able to find out what our weak points are, and to fix them. Although we respect your decision, we would still be happy if you considered giving us another chance in a future occasion. Best regards, Rosanna Toscani (Guest Relations)

Spent 2 weeks at Kurhaus Cademario. Great location, beautiful view and very friendly and helpful staff. Rooms were clean. Food was good, though not reach in variety. These are the pros.
The cons list ist somewhat longer.
In the Spa shower and toilet the light wasn't working upon arrival. 8 days later I reported (do they ever clean?). No warm water on Sat evening for 6 hours. Explanation: too many guests showering at the same time. Swimming lessons for children. It's a Spa, not a swimming bath; too noisy and not enough space. Spa generally and saunas in particular carelessly maintained. Empty cups at water station, no possibility to pour water over heated rocks, no decoration, plain loveless. Water temp of outside pool too low. No quiet room that deserves the name.
Restaurant: we booked half board. Dinner: 3 courses out of 4. Two starters, one main and dessert, to choose starter and main, dessert is given. Sometimes 2 out of 3 were fish. Besides: food isn't served while the guest is on the toilet.
During the entire 2 weeks we haven't seen a hotel manager. Is there even one? The owners (Ticino Hotels Group) don't seem to care too much for the hotel and it's guests.

My wife and I stayed for 3 nights at the hotel with our 6 months old baby. The check-in process was great. The lady at reception was amiable and informative.
The first night was a bit scary as the fire alarm was triggered in the middle of the night, waking us all up with no idea of what is going on.
The hotel is not very accessible for families with stroller as there are few stairs before the elevators. A porter was helping us with the luggage when we arrived, but each time we wanted to leave the hotel or come back we had to climb the stairs with the stroller.
Other than that, I was very disappointed that we were not allowed to access the internal pool in the spa with our baby. We went out to the external pool but it was way too cold for our baby and windy, no chance we put our baby at such risk.
The internal pool was heated and was much more suitable for the baby, but again - we were not allowed to use it. I suggest you revisit this unnecessary regulation.
Breakfast was OK and the service was very good at both the breakfast and dinner times.
Dinner however was very pricey, and although the food looked great, the tastes were not so good in our opinion.
As for the room, it requires a bit of renovation, the room looks a bit old and the walls are marked from other people's luggage.
Getting to the hotel by car is recommended for experienced drives, it's a 15 mins drive from Mulini di Bioggio in a road full of sharp curves.

Response from Alessandra Freda, General Manager at Kurhaus Cademario Hotel & Spa
Responded Oct 17, 2022
Dear Lior, Thank you very much for sharing your experience as a guest at our hotel and have taken note of your comments. We understand that being woken up in the middle of the night is not the best feeling. Fortunately, it turns out that our highly sensitive alarm system started off by detecting cigarette smoke (not allowed at the hotel, it must be pointed out), so that we were able to disable it shortly after. Our hotel welcomes individuals, couples or families equally and wholeheartedly. As a wellness and spa venue, it is especially sought for by guests who expect peace and quiet throughout the wellness centre, including the swimming pool, which is why admission to this area is reserved for guests over the age of 14. At the same time, our large, heated sport pool located in the garden facing the hotel is open through the spring and summer season (all through September in case of mild weather) and available to children of any age. Our menus and menus are designed to provide a gastronomic experience of a special kind thanks to special flavor combinations. We are very sorry if our offer did not meet your expectations. Confident that your input will help us understand how to further improve our service, we thank you for choosing Kurhaus Cademario Hotel & Spa and remain Yours sincerely, Rosanna Toscani (Guest Relations)

This is my husbands and mine second time at Kurhaus. First was end of Aug 2020, which was 2 nights and we had a pleasent time, but reception was slow, and the rooms TV did not work and the spa was clearly in need of repair and to pools were
very cold. However, we still relaxed and enjoyed ourselves.
The best part was the lounge, lounge service and the pianinist and free breakfast in the room, which now sadly no longer included.
During our first visit I gave them the benifit of the doubt thinking that with covid etc that repairs or such were impacted and thus slow but pending. However, after going back almost a full year later, the place has fallen into further disrepair. I was not impressed, youd have to be blind or just ignorant to not see it: There is an algea line around all the walls to the indoor pool, there are tiles falling off, even more then last time, there was a crack in the ceiling by the grotto were water poured over two poor people lounging, as it was raining outside at the time, and it apparently got in somehow. One could see water damage and water rings, which leads me to belieive it had been that way for awhile. The turkish bath has large tiles missing and smells of sweat. I do not think they air it out or clean it often. The ice machine by saunas is also very loud and annoying when trying to relax and never seems to turn off.
There are pros: the rooms are spacious and beds are comfy, the Dot products are very nice, and though the food is good, it is overpriced for its portions so we ate out most evenings. The waiting staff are pleasent, but front of staff seem clueless. For example: The pool bar is stated to be open everday from 12 -19, however, while we were there, they decided to not open the pool bar at all due to rain predicted late that evening, which would have been fine, but we were waiting for over an hour with 12 other people around the the area expecting it to open for lunch which never happened. When I went to the front desk they did not know it was not even open and went to ask, and then told me that due to weather which was only cloudy that it woulds not open that day, but no one bothered to inform the guests, which I think would have been the curtious thing to do. It was not until I suggested a sign or something to inform people that the front of staff even considered it.
All cons aside, the spa area is lovely and the spa sercives are very enjoyable. I think with a thorough cleaning, repair of existing areas and improvment to front of staff this hotel would be worth the price, till then, I cannot recommend it.

Buongiorno I0v3lt. Together with all the staff, we thank you for taking the time to rate us on your second review. Feedbacks from our guests help us to understand if we are on the right track. We are sorry that some aspects, during your stay in the stormiest day this Hotel has ever faced :-), did not meet expectations and are glad to reconfirm that Breakfast Room-Service charge is still offered in case the reservation has been made directly with us, as well as the pianist keeps playing in our Lounge on Fridays and Saturdays. We do really hope that you will consider visiting our hotel again: we will be delighted to show you our service. Yours sincerely.

Stayed at Kurhaus in October of 2023 and had a pretty terrible experience. In my opinion the location of this hotel is awful, it is high up on the side of a mountain far away from anything (restaurants, stores, activities). We asked the front desk and they said the nearest restaurant (that isn't the overpriced one at the hotel) would require us to take a taxi which would cost about 60 Francs, one way, so 120 just to get there and back. We asked the man at the front what there was to do near the hotel without paying for a cab back to town and he just shrugged his shoulders. We checked out the pool and spa which were mediocre, pools were room temperature to chilly, and there was no not tub. We ate at the restaurant (to avoid the 120 chf taxi fare) and it was also a very poor experience, took almost 2 hours to eat, over 60 minutes between placing our order and receiving the food because apparently the kitchen was very busy, but the restaurant wasn't even at 20% capacity. In addition to all of this, there was a dog in one of the hotel rooms which barked constantly, we talked to the front desk about this, he said he could move us to another room, great we said. We ask "can you make sure it's in an area where we can't hear the dog?" to which he responds with his trademark shoulder shrug. We were supposed to stay 2 nights here. We explained to the front desk staff how disappointed we were with our stay and the accommodations, and we intended to check out in the morning and not stay the second night. We asked if we could be refunded for only our second night because of how poor our experience was to which they refused. We disliked the hotel so much we ate the cost of the second night, and spent a couple hundred dollars to book a train and hotel in Milan where we had a fantastic time. If all you want to do is go to the spa, sit next to a pool (no hot tub) way up on a hill, and wait an hour to get the food you ordered, then maybe this is the place for you. Overall, I would NOT recommend Kurhaus.

Response from Francesco Ciccarello, Other at Kurhaus Cademario Hotel & Spa
Responded Nov 12, 2023
Dear Matthew, we received your impressions and are sorry to hear that you were not satisfied with your experience. Admittedly, the way to our hotel at 900 mt might prove a little challenging the first time. Dr. Keller, the Kurhaus founder, chose this spot in 1912 to create a resort where guests could recover from the typical illnesses of the time (such as tuberculosis), or just get familiar with a more organic, vegetarian-based and nature-bound way of life. Since its opening in 1914, the Kurhaus Cademario has been synonymous with well-being and relax outside the daily routine. At the same time, Lugano and its lake are only 20 minutes by car or bus. Hotel guests are entitled to free tickets that include all city and regional busses in Ticino, and can rely on the 422 bus which stops in front of the hotel and takes them to Lugano at an hourly schedule every day. If required, taxis are available upon reservation and will get to the Kurhaus from Lugano in about 20 minutes. Wellness is at the heart of the Kurhaus experience with its DOT.Spa centre with hammam, sauna, energy color pool and invigorating indoor and outdoor pool with water temperature at 30°. Our Front Desk team is always at the guests’ disposal to make sure they can enjoy their stay to the fullest. If by any circumstance some team member did not act accordingly, we apologize for it. On the other hand, we must point out that your 2-night-reservation had already been prepaid and confirmed according to our conditions, which do not allow for refunds for last minute amendments or early departures. Nonetheless, we would like to thank you for sharing your feedback, our guests’ opinion is important and helps us understand where and how we can further improve our service.

For this kind of room where you pay almost 400 euro you expect at least coffee and not only tea in cheap carton cups. I would not recommend this hotel for a long stay.

We arrived early and were able to check in already to our room. What a pleasant surprise!
Elegant, enormous suite... we were impressed. Went for a long hike and got back on time to enjoy the sunset outside in the pool area overlooking Lugano and its lake. Stunning and suberb views also during a fantastic, rich breakfast the next morning AND we were able to use spa facilities again until late evening on Sunday. Highly appreciated!

Unfortunately, I do not know the answer to your questions. Dogs were not allowed in the restaurant but in the hotel. So I do not know with kids. It could be a nice location for a party so you should ask them directly to get your information.
