Some of the "Swiss Historic Hotels" are quite luxurious (for the good or the bad, and it usually comes at a price). Not so this one: It is down-to-earth, and very affordable. We had the Edelweiss room with balcony for 200CHF and did not regret it. It is super silent there, so you can sleep with the balcony doors wide... More

Stayed here while hiking the huge route. The location is fantastic. Rooms are a bit dated but comfortable. The rooms have balconies overlooking the valley. We were staying with a group of 11 staying there and having dinner. Once the group came down from the mountain we gathered in the large picnic table area for a beer and snacks and... More

Hello David, We are happy that you found the location great. About this incident with the server, we would like that you note that we don't have an area for the picnic. The large table is here to take a drink in the bar of the hotel. We think that you could understand that we are a bar, an hotel... More

This place was amazing. Would love to go back there. Meticulously maintained decor since the early 1900s to 1950s (?). Huge games room, plenty of places to sit and read a book. Food was nice in the bare area. We stayed in the cheap rooms with shared bathroom on the top floor, but we still had a great view and... More

We had a most enjoyable stay in this hotel, very comfortable and very Swiss with friendly helpful staff. The evening meal and breakfast were very good. The large cosy lounge with comfortable sofas and a huge log fire are just what was needed on a rainy evening. If we are ever in this area again we would certainly stay in... More

The hotel is Grand indeed, set in a beautiful old pine forest with views over the Arolla valley. Inside, the common areas take you back in time with cozy wood fires when the weather is cool. The highlight for us were the hotel staff who were incredibly friendly and helpful. The only downside were the bedrooms which were small and... More

Hiking for 14 days as a family of four. This place has so much character, and charm, it feels like a national park lodge. They were so good to us, found some one to do our laundry so it would be ready for us early morning, and made us feel right at home. Our room was a luxury after dormitory... More

What a joy this place was after 7 days of hiking. From the cozy first-floor lounge to the paintings lining the walls to the narrow steps leading to a fantastic downstairs restaurant, it carries a wonderful mountain-lodge ambience, steeped in history. Our room was comfy with a peaceful view of thick forest -- from other rooms you can surely see... More

What was good ? The location, the helpfulness of the staff, the local white wine, which I see others have praised, the large foyer which was comfy and full of good places to sit and write or read unobtrusively and the general sense of faded splendour which appealed to my romantic streak. What not so good ? We happened to... More

This could be a very nice hotel if it wasn't for the staff in the reception. In my booking-agreement with the hotel it was clearly stated that local tax was included in the quoted price, but when checking out they still charged me for it. The sum wasn't very big, but the way the person at the desk responded!! So... More

The rooms are not very modern, the lounge has style and for the food I recommend the "Carnozet" in the basement, where they serve local specialities with dry meat and cheese and a good local white wine (Petite Arvine). Best we liked the terrass and the delicous home made "tarte aux myrtilles"!
