I stayed at this hotel as part of a work trip with a large group of people. We had rented every room so had access to the whole hotel which is made up of a number of cabins and buildings located in a hamlet, high up in the mountains. The facilities are fabulous, with all rooms having views towards the mountains and valleys. This hotel is a B corp and this was evident in everything they did. I have stayed in many hotels across the world but this one is situated in one of the best locations I have ever seen with the most amazing views. I would definitely recommend this hotel if you are looking for a different type of hotel, it’s more of a retreat. The are also great walks nearby and it is located close to the Verbier ski resort.

We opted for Montagne Alternative to enjoy the mountains setting while avoiding the crowds in the ski resorts and we loved it. We chose to eat at the hotel's restaurant on the first night and to cook ourselves in the chalet on the other days. Given the village's location, it is recommended to plan all the meals in advance as there are no groceries options nearby (15mn by car to the nearest groceries store). The chalet was very comfortable and beautifully arranged with generous spaces and amazing views. The couple in charge was very helpful and friendly. We loved our stay and hope to go back there to enjoy the peaceful energy of nature.

I have been going to Montagne Alternative since many years with small groups of leaders, and have loved each and every stay. This is so much more than a hotel. It’s actually more like a boutique hotel designed in an amazing way to combine the century old barn architecture and the contemporary design and comfort. Imagine a little mountain village, with several barns and houses, all spectacularly well preserved and rearranged to cater needs of the most demanding clients. The setting is amazing, with breathtaking vistas over the valley, great views of the mountains and the intimacy of a rural cosy village. Montagne Alternative is an eco friendly boutique design hotel concept, characterised by the assembly of several barns, displayed close to each other in the village of Commeire. There is a central restaurant/breakfast place (the Agora), there are incredibly inspiring meeting rooms, there are some barns with steam bath, etcetera. The decoration of the barns, living rooms and bedrooms are all tasteful and with lots of natural products, and without disturbing and unnecessary high tech, television or gadgets. It’s comfortable and luxurious by its simplicity. The bedding is simply awesome and very comfortable. The food is excellent and very simple (which is different from basic!), often from local produce. What makes the place the most attractive, apart from the above, is the service and availability of all the staff. This is an ideal place to go hiking, go on a retreat or spend time with those you love. I have planned to go back several times. Montagne Alternative was the first Swiss small enterprise welcomed as B-Corporation.

Every aspect of my stay at Montagne Alternative was positive. I went with a group in April 2017 for a weekend yoga retreat, and was pleasantly surprised by how well managed and special this place was. The rooms are stunning (I got to walk around and see almost all of them. There wasn't a single one that didn't live up to the high standards). Some have better views than others, as well as a bit more space. They were comfortable and unique (beautiful textiles and woods) and contributed to the peaceful environment. None of the doors lock, which is part of the open and laid back approach. The staff were kind and welcoming and always available to support whether we wanted anything from hot tea to advice on hiking paths. The food was healthy, fresh, and delicious, and they generously catered to many different diets and allergies. It was very easy to arrive here from Martigny train station (with a driver to pick us up). We are already looking for excuses to return.

Serenity, calm, peace of mind, tranquility, well being, ... are synonyms to this magnificent resort with breathtaking views of the swiss mountains. This is not your regular five stars chain hotel; this is a boutique hotel where all rooms are located in small bungalows with stunning mountain views. The rooms are not equipped with TV's nor Telephone sets: who needs them with this tranquility setting. For those who are internet addict there is a wifi signal covering the entire resort. Mountain walks is the main attraction, so if you are not physically fit you may find it a bit difficult to fully enjoy the place. Service is above excellent with a swiss attention to detail, an italian sense of hospitality with a French touch of elegance! Food is mainly bio. My favorite was the local honey that you can also buy from a local store on site!

Stayed here for a yoga retreat over the weekend and did not want to leave! The setting is just out of this world. Each chalet has large south facing windows with picture postcard views. We arranged for a transfer from Martigny train station to the hotel. which is expensive if travelling alone (CHF120) but the minibus can take up to 7 people so sharing the transfer cost is fine. The rooms are fairly basic but very clean and welcoming and I loved the natural stone floors in the bathroom. The only negative point about the room is that there is only one deckchair on the balcony of a room for two people. We had vegetarian food for the weekend and it was superb. Portions were large and filling and the home made bread fantastic. All products are locally sourced, cheese, wine, honey, jams, and they try to grow most of their own vegetables. The restaurant area is clean and has incredible views but perhaps could do with something to give it a better atmosphere. The staff went out of their way to make us feel welcome and gave great advice on the various walks available. It is a fantastic place to go to get away from the hustle and bustle of daily life. I simply can't wait to go back!

We were 5 adults who met to celebrate my mother-in-laws birthday! The beautiful scenery is breathtaking and the renovated cottages are truly a great work of art. Unfortunately there were too many "hiccups" and faux-pas which left us very much disappointed and convinced we won't be back. My mother in law ordered in advance a meal other than the raclette, and was given a choice between meat or fish: she was served a bland fish served coldish, presentation left to be desired with tasteless accompaniment. The raclette was good, however we were obliged to pay for an extra "raclette" because they only serve for minimum 6 people. The service was very poor, considering that the man who did the raclette talked endlessly, trying to keep us entertained by talking the entire meal with no possibility for us to interact between us. We were unable to have one single conversation between us...unacceptable. The chalet needs to improve certain things to justify the price paid: please unplug the sinks in the bathrooms, the couch in the living room may be vintage but needs a good cleaning, so does the green carpet in front of the fireplace which is just disgusting, not to mention the spider webs in the glasses, no keys to lock-up....You are overpriced for what you deliver: 65 CHF for a raclette + the extra 65 CHF for the raclette you need to pay for but didn't eat, and 65CHF for the equivalent of a "plat du jour"? Not to mention the cost for the chalet for one night!!! Come on guys, you're just going overboard and people don't like the feeling of getting ripped off. Thank god the scenery is beautiful!!

Response from montagnealternative, General Manager at Montagne Alternative
Responded Dec 28, 2016
Dear Madam, dear Sir, Thank you for your review and I am sorry that you have not enjoyed your stay with us. I am quite surprised and disappointed to read your comments about Menrad who made the raclette since most of our guests have praised us for the hospitality he offers. Concerning the price, all our rates – rooms and menu - are listed to enable an informed choice when booking but we definitely don’t want our guest to feel cheated and we will refund you the difference you paid. Keys to lock-up are of course at your disposal and you just need to ask one if you need and we deliver it immediately. Finally, all lodge and rooms are always checked before the guest arrival but we will of course take your comment fully into consideration and impruve our controle in the futur. It is great to see you enjoyed the location. Best regards Norbert LOQUEN General Manager

Excellent location away from it all. Spacious rooms, very modern facilities, great views of the mountains. The original appearance of the hamlet has been preserved very well. The food is definitely not run-of-the-mill; it took a bit of getting used to.

Niched high in the mountains, a unique place to get away from all stress & obligations. Only local, biological products to buy in the hotel shop and to taste in the minimalistic but stylish restaurant. No need for tv in the room: you have spectacular views through massive bay window. Luxury bathroom. Not cheap but extraordinary!

How can you kill mushrooms? With soap. Apricots? By putting vergin oil on them and rosemary. Terrible food, very bad atmosphere, typically neoSwiss unfortunately, please change or disappear. Also, we were many, they did a square table for us as if we were on a conference!!
