We loved this charming hotel in the heart of Scilla. The hotel was built in the 18th century with very large and spacious rooms. We had three rooms and one on each floor. All rooms were decorated with a typical European charm. What comes with a building built in the 18th century? Stairs. So be prepared to haul your luggge up the stairs when you arrive. Most of the time we had water pressure but it did take some time to heat up and get to us on the third floor which is really the 4th floor. I just assumed it’s an old building and didn’t even question it. The WiFi worked but not all the time. When it did work it worked well. One time when we pointed out it wasn’t working they fixed it quickly. The hotel has a typical European breakfast but I was pleasantly surprised to see some eggs and bacon being served. Different breads and a coffee machine with homemade sweets were more than plentiful. This is southern Italy. So English is very sparse but most made a huge effort to try and communicate with us. This is not a big city. A small town. I loved watching the wedding and first communion in the banquet area they had when we were there. The hotel is close to lots of food options right outside the door and when sitting on the front patio of the hotel you can view the Tyrrhenian Sea. If you are sensitive to noise don’t book the ocean view rooms which are in the front of the hotel. The ones that face the back are quiter. Parking can be arrange off site if needed. If you are coming to use the beach make sure you reserve your beach chairs in advance they sell out quickly. I loved this little hotel. I highly recommend. Remember you are not in a big city. Bring your patience and slow down. Enjoy the culture and make an effort to speak the language.

Located at the bottom of the old town, across from the ocean. The room is really nice, easily twice the size of a normal room. The staff were not as friendly and welcoming as in the north of Italy. Breakfast was average. But the real problem is the noise. The room has double glazing but it is ineffective to the noise outside. Next to the hotel is a restaurant and gelataria which are very popular and a lot of noise. We were on the first floor and you could hear the cars and people talking and laughing. If you like a bit of quiet don't book here.. & NO LIFT

I stayed at this Hotel with my family in July I booked it in March through Booking.com During the booking process I booked a double room and a 2 Junior suite’s as there was no double rooms left. On the room description it said 1 double bed and 1 single which was perfect as my son was staying in one room with his aunt. However on the app it said single use for the junior suite’s. I tried to alter this on the app but it wouldn’t allow it. So I contacted the hotel through booking.com and the hotel came back to me saying they didn’t understand my request and said I could book another room. Obviously this was too expensive. So I put 2 names down on the guest name slot and booked the rooms. Upon arrival at the hotel at check in I confirmed with the man about the room requirements and the problem with the app I asked if there was any additional costs. “No all good no problem” he said. At check out he gave me the bill which was €500 more than it said on the booking confirmation. I refused to pay it until I contacted Booking.com. Whilst waiting to get in touch with them he changed the cost of the rooms on the app. I left the hotel and they took the money from a credit card I’d used at the property not the card I used the confirm the Booking. I contacted Booking.com again and they said there’s nothing they could do. It’s also worth mentioning the noise from the street outside. My parents did not sleep properly for 6 nights. Also the breakfast is nothing special and there was flies around all the stale breads & cakes. The man behind the counter (Constantino) is constantly harassing you with offers of expensive tours run by his friends that are always conveniently hanging around the hotel. The wifi is also terrible my teenage son was very unhappy it ruined his stay. I strongly recommend a different booking company because if you have an issue they are no help at all.

Response from Costantino A, Direttore at Hotel Palazzo Krataiis

This is a delightful hotel in a very scenic town. We felt at home as soon as we walked in. Our room was spacious and very comfortable with a small balcony overlooking the sea. Breakfast was a buffet style affair and was relatively simple but perfectly adequate. We were able to explore the rest of the town very easily from here, just make sure you have some comfy shoes for all the steps up to the castle!

Not many people know Scilla unless you're from here, and the Hotel Palazzo Krataiis is in one of the best spots. We had a first floor room with a balcony and sea view, beach approx' 50m away, and of course a fantastic view of the Castello. Breakfast was a standard fare for Italia, but the staff were nice and rooms were pristine. They have a restaurant on the beach, but if you are there in peak season it's best to book at reception in the morning. We also had a vehicle and although they do not have parking availabiltiy, they did organize a local parking service to handle all of the needs to take and return our vehicle.
