Authentic look. Nice rooms. Friendly staff. Excellent meal. One of the prettiest onsens in the village. If I had to say something negative: room lighting is a bit poor. Had a florescent light in the main room. A couple paper lanterns or at least a yellow lightbulb would have looked much better. Room was otherwise very nice, classical Japanese-style and... More

I stayed here for one nite, having driven from Nagasaki via Aso. Staff here are extremely friendly. I didn't book dinner here and the staff were very quick to help me sort something out. Most shops and restaurants at Kurokawa Onsen shut at 6pm. I had a nice dinner at a place called Naka, which shuts at 9pm. Naka offers... More

We decided to continue to the original plan of staying here even after the recent earthquakes in Kumamoto as a gesture of support. The ryokan did not suffer much damage and we were probably the only family staying on that night. The room we booked was HUGE and comes with a private onsen bath. It was a very comfortable stay... Thank you for staying at Wakaba, even quite soon after the earthquakes. We are operating as normal but it is still very quiet and we hope more guests will take the opportunity to make a booking now or in the near future. More

The ryokan was really fantastic, from the really excellent service to the spacious and comfortable rooms to the great food. They have indoor and outdoor onsens as well as private onsens for families and couples. They even arrange pickup and drop-off from the highway bus stops to the ryokan. The surrounding scenery was great and you can take a stroll... More

Ryokan Wakaba, takes a little finding, but once you get there, you will feel the warmth of the place and staff. In a town known for its Onsen, it offers one of the best. Why, the water is neither too hot or too warm, just right for a good bath. The food on offer both the breakfast and dinner are... More

This is One of the best Japanese style hotspring inns that I've been to. The inn provides bus station pick up service. The staff are nice and very helpful. They speak a little bit English but they use translation tools/ smartphone to help communicating. The room I was staying at is very spacious, with a nice grass-fragrance and it was... More

Everything was great. I would recommend to order dinner, they are wonderful, multi-course. Book room with its own hot spring, the apartment has several rooms and terrace / view of the river. Access is easy from the main road, unfortunately, gps runs through town with very narrow streets. The staff is nice and accommodating.

Ryokan Wakaba is the best ryokan I had ever stay. They are very friendly and warm. You can feel it when you are there. The chef use his heart to prepare every dishes. The food are nice and tasty. Highly recommend this ryokan if you are looking for one. And they reply your email.
