We echo much of what everyone says about this place. They know what they should be doing and they're doing it. Help is there if we need it, you rarely see any staff or guests and keys for private baths are left open, there is no booking. Even the rain is more beautiful. We arrived early, they accommodated us. Very... More

This small hotel is an experience of a lifetime. Nestled among trees in a small village, it is what you may picture in your mind of an earlier time in Japan. The property is small but has many nooks, sitting areas, & picture opportunities. Our room was large with a balcony & we had our own hot springs tub with... More

Exquisite, charming and delightful memories of a fantastic visit to Kurokawa. The staff were exceptionally friendly and welcoming and the food served at dinner and breakfast was tremendous. The public and private Onsen baths were beautifully placed. Very tranquil, quiet and beautiful surrounding whilst the town also provides delightful shops. The bakery is a must and seeing the night time... More

I'd walked past this property several years ago and decided that staying there was on my bucket list. I finally stayed there and though it was the most I've ever paid for a "hotel" room in my life, it was worth it. From the moment you arrive till the time you leave, staff appear out of nowhere to assist. Our... More

From the lovely staff to the exquisite kaiseki meals, the beautiful grounds to the private outdoor bath, we loved everything about this place. The way the architecture blended indoor and outdoor space was genius. The aesthetic sensibility was both elegant and comfortable and the ability to walk around the inn and the town in a yukata was fun. Take advantage... More

I stayed here for 2 nights with my girlftiend while we explored the surrounding Aso Volcano. It was the best decision ever made. I booked the "shion" room, which has its own private onsen. little did I know the shion room is actually like its own little cottage. I drove to the hotel from Hakata and upon arrival, they have... This is the best onsen ryoukan I've ever stayed. The atmosphere is awesome, and air from rhe path to hotel entrance is filled with burning wood aroma. The service is excellent. When we booked the room with private bath, we could not choose the room type. However, we want to stay in the room with Japnese fireplace and they changed... More

This is a great onsen (hot spring) in Kumamoto prefecture on the Japanese island of Kyushu. Being highly active from a volcanic point of view, Kyushu has many hot springs (and indeed a smoking volcano - Mount Aso - close enough to this inn for a day trip), but this was something special. Not at all garish or touristy, the... More
