We stayed with Daisuke and his family in January, and had a wonderful time. Their home is right in the countryside, with beautiful views and plenty of places to walk nearby. Yumiko was an amazing cook, and we really enjoyed sampling local home cooked food. We would recommend this to anyone looking for a traditional, interesting and relaxing stay to get a taste of living in a traditional Japanese home.
We spent 2 wonderful days at this beautiful spot. Daisuke and Yumiko are the most friendly and charming hosts and welcomed us into their home and family. This is a real Japanese experience and I would thoroughly recommend it. The house is in the middle of the mountains overlooking a beautiful river valley. We ate our meals with the family and what fabulous meals they were!. Yumiko is an amazing cook and everything was delicious - beautifully presented, great variety of dishes and so tasty. A memorable part of our trip, I am sure. Thank you Daisuke and Yumiko!
...or how it was before the westernisation. Daisuke and Yumico where incredibly friendly and helpful hosts that helped you feeling like an esteemed family friend. The mountains where also a nice place to be and to just relax for a while. For a longer stay I recommend a car so you can explore a larger area.
Michitsuji really delivers a remarkable experience: a unique traditional farmhouse in a remarkable fairyland setting with a host family that adopts you as their long-lost relative while still delivering remarkably yummy, sophisticated flavor food. What more could you ask for? Hmmmm.....maybe if their cat wasn't so dominating... I enjoyed this so much - this was one of the peak experiences of my trip!
I like everything about Oyamanoyado Michitsuji ! Yet, whether I will recommend this place to you all depends on what you are looking for in your travel. I am a frequent traveler to Japan and this time I was travelling alone to explore the tranquil countryside of Shikoku. With this purpose in mind, there was no reason I would choose a proper “hotel” with air-con, gym-room or other luxurious facilities located along the main road or next to a train station. Michitsuji is a place where you can really get rid of the city and find real peace of mind in your inner side. The surroundings were truly quiet. After leaving the main road, I had to drive for about one km uphill through the narrow passageway hidden in the trees that led me to another world in the mountains overlooking an amazingly beautiful river gorge. One would instantly fall in love with such a wonderful scenery. You may think one can find similar residence/room in the vicinity but I can assure you that all elements (big and small, hard and soft) considered, Michitsuji offers a unique experience that makes it stand out from others. Mr and Mrs Daisuke and their two lovely boys took good care of us. On the day of my stay (mid-September 2017), there were two other dwellers who were professional cyclists from Canada. Together with the Daisuke family, we ate and chatted happily at dinner time in the 100-year old Japanese style house, while enjoying the spectacular dishes prepared by Mrs Daisuke. Although customers did not have their own private bathroom, I was 100% happy with the shared bathroom and toilet. The “rooms” were partitioned just by Japanese style wooden sliding door without locks but to me there were no security or privacy concerns at all (and I think many other customers will feel the same). I felt safe, easy and relax and fell into a long deep sleep with complete peace of mind while listening to cicada chirping and toad singing, until I was woke up by the roosters that started to “roar” at 4 o’clock in the morning. Strongly recommended also for a one-hour early morning walk (as early as 5 am) in the surroundings to smell the morning grass and to feel the morning dew, giving you a magical finishing touch to complete your refreshing journey (far more effective than any expensive spa can give you). The experience was something that words cannot describe. It’s great value for money just for the quality sleep and the two delicious meals alone, not to mention the unique experience of the tranquility of the mountains and the natural beauty of the river valley. Come!…
