Royal Hotel Tosa is located on the southern coast of Kyushu with spectacular views over the Pacific Ocean, which can be enjoyed while eating breakfast on the top floor of the hotel. Tosa Royal Hotel is well-known for its various hot springs, as well as having a deep sea mineral spring, where deep sea water is pumped directly into the hot spring. Highly recommended for first timers! Kochi city is located a 40 minute car drive from the hotel, and Muroto Cape a 90 minute drive.

This was a great place to stay - one of the best hotel onsens I've ever been to! And the view of the ocean from my room was incredible. I loved sitting out on the deck every morning and evening. The restaurant inside of the hotel was also great, as well as the breakfast! The staff were also super friendly and helpful. I had a problem with my TV one evening around 11pm, I called the front desk and someone immediately came up to help me and said to let them know anytime if I had trouble again! The same person was working the front desk the next morning and asked if things went well - the little check in makes a big difference! The *only* downside was that the wifi in my room nor in the lobby worked, and my room had a bit of a smokey smell. But otherwise, wonderful little retreat.

This large hotel is under the Daiwa Group, and has two golf courses. Apparently, many golf tournaments are held here every year. The rooms themselves are pretty large as well. Most people get here by car, and most of the people staying here were Japanese, didn't see any foreigners when we visited. The hotel has indoor and outdoor onsen, as well as an outdoor pool for use in summer only. They also have a souvenir shop with a Sakamoto Ryoma (local hero) costume photo corner, where guests can dress up as Ryoma. A popular souvenir for the area is Imo Kenpi, long sweet potato chips which are pretty delicious. The hotel also has a spa center and several Japanese or Western restaurants. For dinner, we had a Western meal. The food was a fusion, several courses, delicious and very filling!

Stayed here over a weekend and the hotel is showing signs of age but it is well maintained. Rooms are clean and spacious. Bathroom good size, but bathtub is not western size. All amenities included. Staff are helpful, showed us to our room and brought up extra towels etc. Check in and out are smooth and professional. For dinner, we didn't want to leave the hotel, so we ate at one of the hotel's restaurants which offer good Japanese fare. Drinks are a bit pricey though ($5 for an orange juice!). There is an onsen (hot spring) with nice outdoor baths, and decent sized gift shop which sells local foodstuffs and crafts, as well as toys for the pool. The pool was awesome for the kids, shallow end for younguns and a deeper (1.2 m?) side for the rest of us. There was an attendant there at all times and a drink vending machine, shower, parasoled tables, lounge chairs. The pool is closed for 10 minutes every hour so quite funny seeing everyone jump out and wait on the side before jumping back in. Probably not a pool you could exercise in, but nice to lounge around. Lots of parking available and lobby/coffee area is big. No internet available except for dial up which must be arranged through the front desk. There are laundry facilities, a game corner with table tennis and the usual arcade games. Pretty good value for money, but you either need a car to get there or to arrange the hotel shuttle because its a good distance from any main stop. Just down the road, saw a beachside park with swimming and picnic areas and boardwalk. A couple of restaurants also just down the road in case you don't like the hotel offerings. A great hotel for summer holidaying with the kids.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the ocean. Facing the mountains and carpark is really quite boring.
