Naoshima was without a doubt one of the highlights of my trip to Japan. It does take a while to get to Naoshima but it is absolutely worth it. I only stayed one night but wished I had stayed for two in order to enjoy the hotel and grounds a little more and also to do things at a more...

I'm not sure where to even begin on this one.. This place and island are super special and added up to one of the best experiences in my life. First off, we were lucky enough to book a suite in the Oval. I think it was room 402. There are only 6 rooms in this area of the hotel which...

What an amazing experience to visit Naoshima and stay at Benesse House. They have combined art, great modern architecture and the best of Japanese hospitality. There are two complexes. The Museum and The Oval are adjacent. Up the hill and more expensive. The Park and the The Beach are a bit more casual and would be the better option for...

At the end of a long trip, with authentic cultural experiences, it may be a long trip to get to Benesse House but it is so worth it. Even the Park section, the most affordable, is lovely. Others have criticized the halls for Scuff marks, I suggest you will not even notice. While there does seem to be a bit...

Amazing experience staying in the Ando-designed hotel and rooms, with access to the Benesse House Museum after hours. One of the best perks is having access to the Benesse House guest shuttle during the day which makes it much more convenient to explore the sights around Naoshima.

The short ferry ride and then coach ride to the Benesse House Hotel hardly prepares one for the "other world" adventure to come. The thoughtfulness in preparation for arrival, the extraordinary planning of the entire island leads one to take a mental time-out in order to absorb what one is experiencing...an emersion into another world. Time really does seem to...

A truly unique experience to stay in the Benesse House property, amongst its impressive contemporary art collection and enjoy complimentary late night access to the museum till 11pm. Rooms are spacious and decorated with unique artworks. Those in the park wing have a great view of the beach as well as outdoor artworks which you can wake up to and...

We stayed at this hotel for one night and enjoyed every moment. I highly recommend to take the oval room. The service in this hotel is perfect. The hotel guests can visit the museum until 11 pm which makes it so special.

We loved the experience of the island itself and the multiple museums we were able to visit. Benesse House is situated beautifully. The Museum within the hotel is outstanding. The hotel has a few minor drawbacks. It is the only deluxe property on the island therefore there are not many alternatives. We never like to be tied to restaurants within...

I'm the outlier. Most of the reviews here rave about the Benesse House. Not me. Here's my opinion: This is a very nice hotel. The setting is magnificent--beautiful landscaping, attractive beach, world-class museum (attached). The problem for us, however, was the room we were assigned. We were here for only one night and were placed in the Park section of...

My daughter and I have made reservations to stay 2 nights in the Oval at Benesse in July, 2016. I have a few questions:

1. When I booked on the website, it stated that breakfast is included in the room rate for Oval rooms. Is that correct? If that is the case, should I just mark "no" for breakfast when I make the meal selections? Is the breakfast in a separate section for people staying in the Oval rooms or is it in the main restaurant by the Park?

2. I read that dining choices are very limited on the island, so I have gone ahead and reserved one dinner in the French restaurant and one dinner in the Japanese restaurant for my 2 night's stay. However, I would also like to see the "Open Sky" night show one of the evenings. I will be staying on the weekend. My concern is in July, I believe the show will end around 8:15-8:30 pm, but the latest dinner reservation time slot is 8 pm. What are my options?

3. During our time on Naoshima Island, we are thinking of taking the ferry to Teshima Island and spend a few hours there. How easy is it to make that trip? How much time should I plan to spend on Teshima?

4. We will be using our Rail Pass to get to Okayama station. How much time should we give ourselves to go from Okayama station to Naoshima, then from Naoshima back to Okayama station? Is it easy to find the right trains/transfer/ferry? I have read the island's website, but am still a bit confused.

5. Once we get to Naoshima, do we have the option to stow our luggage, if the room is not ready yet?

Thank you for in advance for any insight!
