I had a good impression upon entering the beautiful garden, and service was fine until I showed my foreign passport and the reception staff immediately switched to broken English... Some of them like to practise, so I don't really mind, but he cut out a bunch of things that other staff were explaining to the people beside me. The worst was he just left me after checking in to bring my own luggage to the room 3 halls away!!! I have never ever had to do that at a hotel, lest a ryokan! The room hadn't aged that well either and really needs an update. The tatami mats were discolored in patches and it didn't feel very clean. The baths were so busy that you'd never be able to get a key to the private ones, and you'd be lucky to even get a washing station at times. The only good thing was that there was a variety of facilities at the onsen, like cold water, hot water for pouring, plum salt etc... The private bath in the room was small, but actually pretty nice, except the view from my bath window was a garden hose. Dinner was a circus show. Lots of kids screaming around and people talking loudly. You had to line up along the stairs to get into the hall at your desired dining time! Food was below average and poor at times because of the quantity that needs to come out. Service was so lacking as a whole, so much that I needed to switch to the other seat because plates weren't cleared and I couldn't access the nabe! I enjoyed my other lodging at Shirahama so much better. Look elsewhere if you want a quiet onsen experience with good food and service!

We stayed for 2 nights. We took a free shuttle (max 20 people) from JR station to hotel. The shuttle was provided by local hotel association. Otherwise, you could take a bus. At least 2 front desk staffs spoke limited English. They provided English leaflet instructions for bath and hotel facilities. After checked in, we moved our luggage to our room in 4/F with fantastic ocean view. Our dinner started at 7:30pm. So we went straight to onsen. There were 3 private onsen first come first serve basis. We got to bathhouse and private onsen access keys were taken. So we went to mixed men/women bath. They provided Crocs like slip on to walk from bathhouse to the mixed bath. For mixed bath, they provided loose tube cloth for covering men and loose one piece pull over dress for covering women. We enjoyed the sunset and seaside view at the bath. After dinner, we went to onsen again and be able to access one of the private onsen. Starting at 10pm, we had free ramen noodles. It was a good portion. Both breakfast and dinner were seafood, veggies and tofu. They tasted great. On the next day, we walked to few tourists attractions close to hotel. Then we headed out to Toretore market for seafood BBQ lunch. It was easy to travel on public bus about 20-30 minutes intervals. Comparing with other people comments, it seemed like the hotel made many improvements.

Apparently, we came here for the onsen. It’s a bit pricy considering the condition of the facilities and services, however we are very happy with the rooms’ condition and their cleanliness. The onsen with the greatest seaside view. Also you will be allowed to go to the mixed onsen with the provided cover. Only if the mixed onsen is a little bigger, it will be perfect. The dinner was very delicious. Also walking distance to some of the best attractions in Shirahama.

Hot spring hotel with great seaviews and good Japanese cuisine. No show policy throughout hotel, polite service though many staff have limited English skills. One staff whose name I put in one of the attached pics deserve a special mention. He had decent English skills and went out of his way to help us and made our stay special. Hot springs were good though usage instructions can be confusing. Overall a different and pleasant stay.

I visited to this hotel from June-14 to June-15 with my wife and one daughter. (Service) Good. We can take welcome snack& drink during waiting check-in. (No charge) We can eat ice cream after taking bath. (No charge) We can eat good taste noodle around 10:00 PM (No charge) And English skill of front person are not bad. When I visit, many foreign people were there. (Food) Not so special but not bad. (Bath) Private bath is not bigger than I expected and also not so good. Normal bath is not bad. (Access) Not bad. We can use local bus. (Cost) I think cost performance is good. (Room) Not bad. I feel it's convenient. Ocean view also good. (Bad point) Vending machine is few. Long distance from my room to bathroom. Private bath quality. Totally this hotel is high level hospitality and good level food, good level room. なぜか50文字以上書いても書いてもエラーが出るので申し訳ないですが日本語で文字稼ぎします。 このホテルから千畳敷はすぐいけます。 また隣接するバラ園も見学できます。
