Stayed there two nights in May. The hotel was almost empty the first night, and maybe 50% full the second, despite the golden week holiday when all good hotels are fully booked
Location: 40 min drive from Nara, 1.5 hours drive from Kyoto. The advantage is that the hotel is just in front of the great shrine where you can easily spend about 1 to 2 hours.
The hotel is not the old style Japanese house, it is a concrete building slightly disguised as one. You do not even take off the shoes entering it.
Everything is outdated and worn off, the carpets in the corridors are stained. The hot spring baths is tiny all in concrete decorated with stones. The view from the bath is obscured by the old dirty glass. Not sure if the water is coming from the hot spring because it smells with chlorine a bit, but maybe they are bound by law to add it to a public bath.
The breakfast was gorgeous especially the day when the people came, but Japanese style only.
