I have never experienced such warm hospitality. The hosts made us feel at home and welcome. The ryokan is very cozy, and Yoshino is absolutely beautiful. A lot of great temples there. Wonderful experience for me and my sister. Hope to stay here again someday.

I endorse every good review of this place. In its way one of the best places I have ever stayed. To get there. Take the Yoshino-Kintetsu line all the way to the end. Yoshino is a well known place and the people at the railways are very good. Walk up a kilometer or so of paved switchback road and you... More

We arrived and had not pre booked dinner (definitely required in July - maybe not in April when things are busier) but this did not deter Kato - we were welcomed with beautiful tea and were offered some Japanese style noodles for dinner which, after a short walk around the town, we ate with delight... Delicious. Beautiful room, perfectly clean,... More

The family that owns and operates the hotel are hard working and so nice. My wife and I missed the last cable car up the mountain our first night here, and she came and picked us up down the mountain. We also got in late , and most dinner places were already closed, and she brought dinner to our room.... More

We arrived to see our names written out on long tiles on the front of the ryokan - nice to know they were expecting us! We were offered tea upon arrival and then our host took our luggage up to our very quiet and super clean room that had magnificent views. We purchased a dinner that evening that included a... More

It takes a bit of time getting there, but if you want to see a small japanese village, and try out classic japanese ryokan, this is it! This is one of the experiences you have to get when being in japan. And with an perfect host, it will just be even better. Their english was also ok. The first impression... More

This was one of the best experiences of my life. If you're someone who once in a while needs to disconnect in order to connect with yourself; Ryokan Kato is the place you need to be. It cannot get more traditional and charming than this; ridding the cable car up, the exquisite food, the onsen, the installations, the whole experience... More

We had a peaceful and refreshing time in Yoshino. Despite it being the long weekend in peak autumn season, Shimosenbon was not too crowded. There were just enough people to keep the area lively, and yet allow us to enjoy the many temples and countryside with a sense of quietness and tranquility. Ryokan Kato is situated very near the ropeway... More

Even if our day in Yoshinoyama was cold & rainy without much sight of koyo, our stay in Ryokan Kato made up for our disappointment. After an afternoon walk in cold rain down from Okusenbon, a soak in the nice hot bath was a welcomed relief. Our room was spacious but minimal with a log chalet feel. The common area... More

I do not write reviews but am compelled to share our wonderful experience here in Japan. My daughter and I spent two nights at this welcoming hotel high on mount yoshino Japan. From the moment we arrived staff were amazing, so kind, friendly and accommodating. The hot springs are beautiful and relaxing. The food is traditional Japanese and every delicious.... More
