With almost half a century of history, the onsen ryokan Kohansou has been transformed by a new brand called Wakamatsu. Bringing with the brand an even more authentic Japanese essence combined with modern and innovative technology, we welcome our guest to experience the real onsen ryokan experience. The Chita Peninsula (South Nagoya) is full of treasures from mountain and sea. From the seafood found in our Ise Bay to the famous Nagoya Cochin chicken and Chita wagyu beef, our executive chef has prepared the utmost Japanese tasting fare waiting for your exploration. Everything on our menu is handmade at our ryokan, be sure to try the Kaiseki full service dinner. Traditional tatami rooms furnished with our original fusion futon awaits to provide the ultimate zen experience. While viewing the beautiful Ise Bay from any of our rooms, you can quietly listen to the ocean waves, or enjoy the infinite number of entertainment titles on our in room playback system. Being an onsen ryokan, we strive to provide our customer with the best onsen experience. Four very different onsen areas featuring different themes can be explored, with differing views to completely give you the relaxation you need. The private bath "Sky" on the roof will definitely give you a view to remember. Be sure to make reservations in advance. Japanese people regularly know Chita for its onsen and beaches. However, there are actually many other activities that are fun to be enjoyed throughout the year. Fishing experiences, fruit harvesting experiences, whiskey making, and many other activities are available. Please ask us for more information.

We stayed here for two nights during our month long vacation to Japan. Wanted to dedicate some time to truly resting and relaxing instead of running around, catching shinkansen and touristing. Boy did we feel like we picked the right place! The room was incredibly well appointed, tons of pillows and amenities and the view was superb. Upon arriving to the local subway station, we called the hotel and they came straight away to pick us up. When we arrived, we were greeted by several staff at what felt like and individual welcome, which was just super inviting and started us off just right. We sat down at a sofa and were served some matcha and a sweet while staff checked us in. Luggage was taken to our rooms for us. We chose times at the private baths right then and easily received our first choices. Room was teched out and the ac was powerful. The sound system was great; we spent many hours reading and gazing at the ocean while listening to the jazz we piped through the speaker. Dinner was extensive, private, and also heavenly. Courses came one at a time with a mostly English elaboration and definitely was swanky. Some unique dishes that were absolutely amazing - for example, horse sashimi (they checked with us the first night to make sure it wasn't a surprise on our night two dinner) and a stunning crab tempura with matcha salt were some standout dishes. Breakfast was unassuming but also delicious and filling, with cooked fish, rice, and miso being the staples. There seemed to be a specific staff (better English) member "assigned" to us, but even when she wasn't around, the staff were more than helpful and easy to communicate with. On checkout they drove us back to the subway station for our departure. Tea and coffee were free, the wine bar in the lobby is self-service but tracks consumption so you pay when you check out. The baths we had were also stunning and so relaxing. I'd recommend the rooftop in the summer as it's a bit cooler, we overheated a bit in the semi-open air (but that one would be excellent in the cooler months). They do have public baths as well which were huge, fully enclosed, and felt like a sauna. No mention of a tattoo policy (we both have several) but it didn't seem to be an issue. HIGHLY recommended! What a great place to stay at the beach!

My friend recommended me to this hotel. I took my bicycle and had a great ride around the Chita Penninsula. Had some Chita whiskey at the lobby so I was set for a good stay to begin with. The rooms were renovated and felt new. After a nice morning onsen we had in room breakfast facing the beach. A very nice package of experience thats not main stream.

Room was a bit small but the futon style bedding was superbly comfortable. iPad system was interesting and never seen in Japan. Food was excellent, breakfast was a little too much, but nothing beats the view from the room.

This "Ryokan" is facing the beautiful beach of Ise bay and our room was just beach front. Modern features both in the lobby (such as automated whisky server and Dolce Gusto) and in the room...can you imagine you can control lights, air-con and music through Ipad Pro in such traditional ryokan? Dinner was just fantastic - all sea foods were fresh and tasty, not too traditional as there was also a touch of modern cuisine. Access was good from Centrair (Chubu airport), just 30 minutes drive there and no stress.
