we arrived at the Yuwagara station very late and after a very short wait, a taxi came. after a short drive through the tiny Yuwagara town then uphill we were at Seiranso upon arrival we were warmly greeted by the staff at the entrance who spoke no English (none of us spoke Japanese either!) nevertheless we understood each other the... We just spent two night here and could not Fault it! A true Japanese experience of staying in a ryokan. Note that this is a very old building and is a bit dated - but we felt that added to the overall Experience. The staff don't speak much English, but we managed to Get by just fine (this in fact... Located near a waterfall, the staff was really nice (not english speaking but we could easily manage), the food was incredible (we had it served in our 8 tatami's room) and the hot springs (onsens) were just as we expected: traditionnal and really really hot. Many japanese tourists there, so we could meet few local people. The rooms are not... More

In most ways, this is a bog-standard Onsen. Like most, it's very old-fashioned & tends to attract an older crowd. Like most, they serve you dinner and breakfast in your room. Also like most others, it's not really within walking distance of anything. But Seiranso differs from most other Onsens in one very important respect: It has an absolutely outstanding... More

After reading so many happy reviews, we booked two nights at Seiranso. I must say - I do not know where all these positive reviews came from! Seiranso is nothing special! Indeed, it is rather old and run down and past its date! The food was grey and boring -- after having had so many top quality meals on our... More

I recently stayed here with my wife, sister and brother in law. The staff was extremely helpful. The 4 of us speak almost no Japanese and made us feel as welcome as possible. The outdoor onsen was spectacular. This was the most relaxed I have been in a long time. The soothing sounds of the waterfall with the hot spring... More

If you're visiting Japan, you'll know that onsens and ryokans are a must. We chose Seiranso to get away from the city, and have an authentic experience. I think the hardest part was that not everyone (hardly anyone, actually) speaks English there; the staff members were mostly older, but incredibly polite and helpful! My Japanese is only conversational, but my... More
