This was part of a group tour taking in the Winter Highlights of Japan. It is a small family run hotel and is absolutely charming. The room was typical of this type of hotel, not luxurious like impersonal large hotels but very comfortable. You had your own toilet and washbasin facilities and had private access to the onsen for showering and enjoying the thermal waters. The evening meal was absolutely superb and would put larger establishments to shame. An unexpected treat. The breakfast was also very enjoyable. We only stayed one night and it would have been good to stay longer. Would definitely recommend.

Gorgeous chalet-style guesthouse, which was one of my favourite hotels during my recent trip to Japan. Woody Hotel is a beautifully impressive building, cosy and inviting. Because there was a big group of us, some had to stay in the adjacent annex; which was accessed by going upstairs in the main building and through a door, which connects to the annex via a small balcony. The rooms in the annex don’t have a private bathroom, and five guests had to share the one toilet (my only gripe!) Fortunately there is another toilet downstairs in the main building. Bathing is in a traditional style onsen, which usually you would share with others of the same sex, but here you could lock the door and enjoy your own private bathing experience. Dinner and breakfast was gorgeous, especially the evening meal which was exquisite. I would definitely stay here again.

A small friendly family hotel, comfortable, perfect location for exploring the area, in particular for finding the red crown cranes .The meals were home cooked, perfectly presented, highlighted the local produce and was absolutely delicious . We loved everything about this hotel

What a find ! Stayed for 2 nights at Woody Hotel in Tsurui-mura. Lovely rooms on the 2nd floor of the Restaurant. The property has a very large common area, with an open fire place, lounge area and a dining area. Shared Japanese style bath. A family run business, the owner is the Chef - and what a superb surprise her food is ! The stay at Woody was part of a 10 day trip in eastern Hokkaido - 8 days of Kaiseki style diners.. and 2 excellent western style 5 course meals with local ingredients ! Freshly baked bread, a good variety of appetisers, soup and mains. Very personalised service in this small Inn, super friendly hosts, thank you Sato-san! Will be back next year for another round of birding !

A group of 10 of us from Hong Kong has just come back from a 5 night stay in this hotel. Hotel is located close to the major photo spots for red crowned cranes. We took up 5 of the rooms. The rooms are all on the second floor and are more or less the same. Note that you have to carry your luggage up the stairs. Rooms are not spacious but decent, with a toilet. A shared Japanese bath is downstairs. There is a sizable common sitting area upstairs. The rental price includes dinner and breakfast the next morning. I can confirm positively what others said about the quality of the dinners. We went out for dinner for one night, and so had 4 dinners at the hotel during our stay. They were Japanese/western fusion in style. What was surprising to us was that each night was better than the ones before, and no repeated dishes for our 4 nights. They were all better than the night we went out. Breakfast is also western style. While this is my first stay, some in the group have stayed in this hotel three to four times in the last few years, and in their opinion this hotel has improved over the years, particularly the food element. None of us speaks Japanese. Fortunately the young lady owner speaks good English. She even helped us to confirm some of our other bookings. We stayed in 3 different family run hotels during our 10 day trip, and this is by far the best. The other 2 have deteriorated over the years due to aging owners.
