Our birding group stayed for one night at the Hotel Green Park to be in close proximity to the Red-crowned Crane Sanctuary. And indeed we were close! The rooms are spacious by Japanese standards but not all have a private shower/bath. We were given a handicapped double room so we were fortunate in that regard, but others in our group were not. Free WiFi is available but no one was able to make it work on the night we were there and the desk staff weren't able to help. I am not sure if this is a frequent problem or whether we were just unfortunate. We also had a minor issue with the heating system whereby shutting off a switch near the headboard turns off the heat entirely (a big surprise). We had dinner in the hotel restaurant that evening and for breakfast the next day. The food was just average, nothing special.…
We stayed here for one night as part of a long tour of Japan birdwatching. We wanted to be near the Cranes but also wanted a bit of luxury to relax after long birdwatching trips in the field and to warm up as the weather was very cold. The onsen was our first so we were a little uncertain but we needn't have worried it was all arranged professionally and a wide range of washing products offered. The meals were very good traditional fare. A lot of guests went to dinner in their robes, we went down in "civvies " but there was a mixture so no embarrassment either way. The room was clean and comfortable and the breakfast was good with a good variety including a mini oven to heat the rolls which was lovely.we noticed a few fellow birdwatchers joining us for a later breakfast after going out for a bit of pre breakfast Crane watching. I would recommend this as part of a longer break. Everyone was very hospitable and friendly and it was a very convenient location for the Cranes. …
Simple establishment but very friendly helpful service. Wonderful photo gallery just outside corridors make this place unique. Wonderful food which all our group of 7 travellers. No complaints. Only note - no bathrooms , only WC in rooms. You are expected to use the Onsen.
We stayed here for one night, enjoying the hospitality and warmth after a raw day photographing the cranes and Eagles. Reception staff were very helpful and rooms were spacious (but only wifi in the lobby), though a particular shout out to the friendly lady in the restaurant who helped us 'silly westerners' out for evening meal and breakfast. The onsite onsen was great, albeit more of a spa perhaps and though the feel of the hotel is more westernised than some places it still had some nice quirky Japanese traditional features. Staying here on Christmas Day meant we got a meal with a difference - lovely food including seafood and meat. And breakfast in the morning was fantastic too with sashimi and a variety of fish and vegetables.
Not as interesting as the Kushiro zoo while more expensive, Green Park boasts the added features of nearby camping, hot springs and fishing; the rides are marginal and not built for taller people. If you go to see the cranes in Tsurui, then this is an easy sidebar - but likely more money than the zoo, particularly the bbq lamb lunch. It's kept in good condition, which merits the three - barely.
