Those who are new to the ryokan will like Sakaya as they are able to provide non-smoking rooms with Western beds, attached bath & toilet, while also provide the full ryokan kaiseki and onsen experience. It has a private onsen bath that you could book if you are feeling nervous about bathing with strangers (there are separate baths for male... More

We stayed here for a taste of traditional accomodation and life. We had a deluxe tatami room. It was very spacious for 3 of us, a small foyer, bathroom then one huge tatami room and two smaller adjacent rooms. As a result, when some were sleeping, others could close the screens and stay up. There was a fair bit of... More

Wonderful old style Ryokan not far from the Yu Road access to the ski fields. Helpful staff who couldn't do enough for you. Beautiful onsens both segregated and for private use. Dinner was terrific, breakfast pretty good, the Japanese style rooms immaculately kept. Quite expensive but you pay for what you get at this place.

A lovely hotel and as expected, super friendly staff. We arrived in the middle of the night to a warm welcome and an efficient check in. The hotel is well located, close to the "Main Street" and a short uphill walk to the ski lifts (via a coffee shop). Facilities include a good sized drying room and laundry. The hotel... More

We spent one week in this ryokan. Staff very nice and helpfull. We were in a room with futon. 2 adults 3 kids, no problem since there is a good living space. You can ask the staff to remove the futon in the day. Unfortunately, there are not much space to hang ski stuffs like gloves. Very quite overall. The... More

We stayed here two weeks ago for a ski trip. Great location and a short walk to the moving sidewalk up to the base of the ski hill. A Brit Microbrew right across the street with 8 taps of great beer. The staff is very helpful at this hotel and they have English speakers on site. Nice ski/boot locker area... More

It was our third ski trip to Japan but the first time taking our children (aged 9 and 7). I had wanted to book a traditional Japanese Ryokan so that our kids could experience the tatami mat sleeping and onsens. I can not rave highly enough about the service and attention we received at Ryokan Sakaya. We stayed for 4... More

This was our 3rd time staying at Ryokan Sakaya. The reason we choose this accommodation for our family is the beautiful traditional rooms and amazing onsen and all that I still there. However we were really disappointed at the camp style breakfast room - you collect your cutlery at the door and find a place on bench like long tables... More

We were here for the annual Dosojin Fire Festival and booked way in advance to secure a room at Ryokan Sakaya. We loved the Ryokan's location, a few steps away from the bustling part of town where the souvenir shops, the hot bun shops, the coffee place and the pizza place too. I have a huge tattoo on my back... More

Ryokan Sakaya offers rooms with basic ski lodge accommodation. There are either futons on a tatami mat (Japanese style) or twin beds (western style). We had a family room with two single western style beds in a small room cordoned off by a sliding door, and our children slept on the floor in the larger living room area. Their beds... More
