We had a great stay at Matsuya! The family are so lovely and helpful and the rooms and facilities were spotlessly clean. It's conviently located a 10 minute walk from the Nagasaka Gondola and 1 minute from the main street.

This is a very basic lodge. The price is certainly low enough. The staff is helpful in arranging ski rental and in recommending various onsen (hot springs) in the town. Breakfast is simple but nourishing. The main problem is that although there is a common lounge area, it is poorly furnished, and is too cold to sit in. So you...

We just stayed for 4 nights in a private en suite room. It was a twin room but we were able to push the beds together easily. It was very comfortable, the room heaters worked well, and the best thing about it was the food. Breakfast was slightly different each day. The Japanese breakfast was excellent, the western breakfast was...

We had a fantastic banquet for 21 friends in the dining room of this hotel! 2100 yen for many courses and plum wine on arrival ! Fresh sushimi/ each person had their own little cookpot with a delicious mix of tofu, fresh seafood, chicken and mountain vegetables in an expertly flavored broth ! Polished off with very large beer and...

Located in the heart of Nozawa-Onsen, Lodge Matsuya is a value for money accommodation option. The place is clean, the hosts are welcoming and the breakfasts are good. There’s a choice of “western” beds or futons - The latter is perfectly fine and comfortable. Bathrooms are common but there are no showers - The local public onsens are again clear/well...

On arrival you are welcomed by super friendly owners. The lodge is very traditional Japanese with their own onsen. Recommend the Japanese rooms rather than Western rooms and definitely dine in at least one night while you are there. We stayed for a week and couldn't recommend Lodge Matsuya more highly!

Really good location for both the Nagasaka gondola and the walkway to Hikage gondola, as well as for the centre of town. A close walk to the where the bus comes in too which was great (although uphill!) Nice enough place with no frills. Traditional rooms that were pretty spacious. Most importantly in winter it was very warm in the...

With your choice of western or traditional facilities, Lodge Matsuya was possibly the best thing about our stay in Japan. As if the incredible scenery and the outstanding skiing weren't enough, your hosts will go to the ends of the earth for your comfort, safety and satisfaction. And these guys aren't just there to keep "customers" happy, no no. They...

This unassuming lodge is well situated - a shortish (8 minute uphill) ski boot clump up to the Nakasaka Gondola. Nice and easy stroll to the numerous fabulous little restaurants in the middle of the village. A bath house just across the road for a local experience not to be missed. The Japanese style room we had enjoyed a view...

Fantastic location, just a block from the main street in Nozawaonsen and a five-minute walk from the slopes. Our Japanese-style room was large and sunny. Bathrooms are shared, but are clean. The western-style breakfast was very good, and vending machines in the hotel provide additional coffee/soft-drink/alcohol options for after-hours. The Lodge also provides discounted lift tickets, which was helpful. Our...
