With your choice of western or traditional facilities, Lodge Matsuya was possibly the best thing about our stay in Japan. As if the incredible scenery and the outstanding skiing weren't enough, your hosts will go to the ends of the earth for your comfort, safety and satisfaction. And these guys aren't just there to keep "customers" happy, no no. They...

This unassuming lodge is well situated - a shortish (8 minute uphill) ski boot clump up to the Nakasaka Gondola. Nice and easy stroll to the numerous fabulous little restaurants in the middle of the village. A bath house just across the road for a local experience not to be missed. The Japanese style room we had enjoyed a view...

Fantastic location, just a block from the main street in Nozawaonsen and a five-minute walk from the slopes. Our Japanese-style room was large and sunny. Bathrooms are shared, but are clean. The western-style breakfast was very good, and vending machines in the hotel provide additional coffee/soft-drink/alcohol options for after-hours. The Lodge also provides discounted lift tickets, which was helpful. Our...

The lodge is right in the centre of Nozawaonsen and is about 10 minutes walk from the main ski lift. The room we stayed in was a western style room which was a good size and had an ensuite toilet. There are basins for washing at the end of the corridor. The breakfast is good with a choice between Japanese...

We were keen to have a traditional ryokan experience during our stay at Nozawa Onsen, which we certainly achieved staying at the Matsuya. The hotel is run by an exceptionally friendly and lovely family, who welcome you at your arrival, and get you settled in the tatami rooms. The decor is dated and very 80s, but very clean and functional....

Loved our stay at this lodge. the family was friendly, warm and welcoming. The onsen was clean and well kept. Breakfasts were a family affair with all the family heads down in the kitchen ensuring it was prepared with a loving touch, carefully coordinated for small table dining amongst guests who spoke the same language! I was sick in bed...

What a lovely lodge run by a lovely family. My partner and I arrived late in the evening cold and tired. Mika (not sure I spelt that correctly) welcomed us into her warm lodge and gave us a quick tour before settling us into our room and importantly showing us how to use the reverse cycle air conditioner. It's very...

we had 6 nights at the lodge matsuya and from entering the building knew we had made the right choice. We had western rooms and although small were clean and fresh towels delivered daily. Breakfast was fresh and very well presented and set us up for our long days of skiing. The bathing room was very clean as was all...
