We stayed for four nights, in three rooms: two couples and a family of four. The staff were very helpful and friendly, giving us tips on where to eat in Hakuba, helping with bookings, dropping us off for dinner each night and to the station when we left and giving us tips on some basic Japanese. The breakfast each morning was plentiful with both Japanese and Western options. We had dinner twice at the hotel - basic gyu-don and rice/hashed beef one night which was good but not amazing and beef sukiyaki (hot pot) another night which was excellent but must be ordered earlier on the day. The dining room had a great view of the ski jumps from Nagano 1998 olympics and the mountains behind. Good place to relax with a drink après ski. The room was cosy and warm with a small bathroom with toilet and shower/half bath. The beds were comfy and the doona soft and warm. The room had a small kettle and fridge. We were on the ground floor near the front desk but noise was not a problem. The onsen downstairs was lovely. A warm bath and hot sauna after a day of skiing is the perfect thing.

We got back yesterday from Hakuba Japan and stayed at the Yamano hotel for 8 nights. The best thing about this hotel is the owners and staff who worked there. They went out of their way to help you with anything you needed in terms of bookings, shuttle buses and information. They were delightful people. The only thing we struggled with was the size of the bathroom facilities but i understand that this was a common experience regardless of where you stayed in Hakuba. We would definitely stay there again in a bigger room.

The Yamano is essentially a family run hotel with all facilities for skiers/snowboarders. Its relatively basic which is what we were looking for, but immaculately clean with a good breakfast serving to set you up for the slopes, a very short walk brings you to the first ski lifts. The hotel has a great Onsen for your tired muscles at the end of the day and the free shuttle service or the nice walk down into Happo One is a great start to your evening. The owners and staff were really friendly and accommodating, I felt welcomed, not too much formality, and I would recommend a stay.

This is a charming hotel. The rooms are spacious by Japanese standards. The food is excellent and the wifi is good. Snow conditions at this time are perfect. It just doesn’t get any better. The hotel staff are friendly and courteous. They will pick you up and take you to the Happo 1 by arrangement. Otherwise you have a picturesque walk to the slopes. Discount lift tickets at the hotel are a nice surprise. Highly recommended.

We booked this hotel online as it was classified as a ski in-ski out hotel in Hakuba, but turns out to be a 10-minute hike to the Nakiyama lift at Happo-One. Nonetheless, the hotel does offer to drop off and pick up around bus terminal, lifts and train station areas. The best thing about this hotel is the friendly staff (and resident baby) and hearty dinners, if you get their half board deal. There's a neat onsen while the rooms are spacious and have all the basic facilities. Would recommend if you are looking for a relaxing ski holiday.
