We stayed here for one night in early November while walking the Nakasendo Way. This was the only Ryokan we stayed at during our 13 night trip to Japan, and was a great experience. The service from everyone was first rate whether that was the gentleman who drove us to and from the station through to the ladies who served... More

We did the Nakasendo walk and stayed here on the second night. The indoor/outdoor onsen was a great way to relax after a long day of hiking. The room we stayed in was large, comfortable and everything we needed. The traditional kaiseki dinner was amazing. They had a complimentary star-gazing tour after dinner that we attended which was a great... More

While Kyoto remained green, we were able to enjoy really nice fall colours. The onsen, esp the one outside is pretty. Dinner & breakfast were feasts. The room was big, with attached shower & toilet. Getting to the ryokan from Kiso Fukushima is easy. Walk across the street to the tourist info centre & they will call the ryokan. The... More

This Ryokan is the best out of our 5 days 4 nights Nakasendo Trail hike package with Otku-Japan. The indoor and outdoor onsens were really therapeutic especially after a 9hr arduous trek from O-tsumago towards Kiso-Fukushima region. They are very willing to come and pick you up from the train station if you give them a call beforehand and let... More

We stayed just one night here on the second day of our walk. We had missed the earlier train which two of our companions had caught, so did not arrive at the station until 6.03 p.m. where we were met by a car and driver from the ryokan. We were brought in a lift up to our room and our... More

We arrived at the Kiso-Fukushima station with the 15:32 train. To our surprise the driver waited for us and there was no need to call the Ryokan. The trip by car took around 10 minutes, so we just sat back and relaxed. Our luggage waited for us already there (we used the excellent service to forward our luggage from Tokyo)... More

Nukumori-no-yado Komanoyu was the only disappointing stay in our long visit to Japan. We had paid for a room with a mountain-view, but received one with a view of a back road behind the ryokan (we were in the main building). Worse, our bathroom was in lamentable condition with huge cracks and even holes in the dirty walls and a... More

Our first Ryokan experience - and one to be recommended. Rooms are large and comfortable; service is excellent. Our dinner was a superb tasting menu of traditional Japanese with a twist (like sweet corn panacotta as part of the appetiser dish and a wonderful “green tea pudding” with a mousse-like texture) Following dinner, we were driven up the mountain for... Arrival; we arrived by train in blistering heat. No problem ringing the hotel from the pay phone at the station (easy honestly) who came and picked us up in about 10 minutes. Lovely reception welcome. First impressions excellent, not too huge, not too crowded but a nice buzz about the place. Bedroom; very quiet, good air conditioning, immaculate. Comfortable futon.... Very well run ryokan. Large rooms. Good size onsen. Excellent meals. Staff attentive and helpful. A great experience to end our 3 day nakasendo walk. Would stay again. It is outside Kiso-Fukushima but the ryokan will pick you up from the station.
