We visited in late June, and there were no other families in the house that night, so it's very easy for us not having to share the bathrooms with others. But they do have enough bathrooms/toilets for 3 families to share with. The rooms are simple and clean. Meals are good too. The location is away from the main road,... More

We arrived around 3:30 from Kanazawa and there were still crowds of people from tour busses. By 4:30 the crowds were gone and you could walk the streets only seeing one or two people. We took a walk after dinner to listen to the frogs singing in the rice paddies. We left on the 9:30 bus for Takayama just as... More

The minshuku is situated at the quiet end of the village with a great view of the mountain and the fields. Air is fresh and clean. Rooms are very tidy and comfortable. Good supply of hot water and electricity. The host is a lady who speaks very good English. She is friendly and efficient. The three spots she recommended are... More

We had a great o/n stay in Shirakawa-go at Shimizu Inn. The lady owner was very nice and spoke English which was very helpful. Dinner & breakfast were excellent. It was easy to get to and at the end of the village which allowed for an opposite perspective to the lookout and very near the three farmhouses which appear in... More

It was our first family trip to Japan including my parents, sister, uncle and aunt. We really loved the homely warmth which Shimizu provided. The host and hostess were were helpful and kind. We were provided full-onboard meal package when we booked via Shirakawa-go Tourist association. We were given 2 adjacent rooms for 7 of us. The food for dinner... More

Shimizu Ryokan located end of the village from viewpoint but I love it because of beautiful snow mountains view from this ryokan . It's peaceful and cosy place to stay. The owner serving delicious Japanese style dinner and breakfast . Just that only with one bathroom that need to take turns while the ryokan is full , anyway , still... More

Shimizu is in a beautiful, peaceful location at the end of the village, a little difficult to find but away from the crowds and noise. The view from the entrance is beautiful, looking out over the fields towards the mountains. The inn was comfortable and homely, and the shared bathroom facilities were functional and clean. The highlight was the meals... More

We booked this accommodation through the Japanese Guesthouses website which was quick and easy. Although this traditional farmhouse is probably as far from the bus station as you could get, it was easy to find and very quiet. The room was small but cosy with more than enough heating. Make sure you book your room with breakfast and dinner as... More

Although it is a bit far away from the bus station, the house is tidy, and the atmosphere is relax! The host speaks English and is very helpful! There is only 1 shower facility, so it may take some time to wait if more occupancy are there too. The meals prepared by the host are very traditional Japanese Meal and... More
