Staying in Shirakawago (a world heritage site) for a night is a great experience. Once the 50 or so tour buses of day travelers has gone (by 5pm) this living town settles down for the night. I picked this Ryokan as it is not too far from the bus hub easier to reach during winter when snow are piled up high. Yamamotoya is in the center of Shirakawa-mura, right behind the parking lot and bus stop to the observation deck that one must go. You can use the stairs to reach the B&B or retour to the alternate road outside of the main road. I can say nearly all B&B's in Shirakawa-go are very similar - room is basic with only...
