Room was spacious and looked like it had recently been refurbished. Some of the staff spoke English and there is a shuttle on demand to bring you to the nearby Yuzawa station eateries. Otherwise its walkeable in 10 minutes, although with a steep incline leading to the Hotel onve you turn off the main road. There is an onsite onsen, not large, but adequate, though without onsite massage therapist. Japanese breakfast buffet had a good spread. Guests get a discount on ski rentals from the ski shop tucked in the basement. But as we cant use the lifts whilst in ski boots, it requires a climb up and then another climb down to hit the ski slopes. Its odd not to be able to exit to the ski slopes from where the ski shop and ski rentals are located. Otherwise there is a ski rental shop at the Yuzawa ropeway station. English speaking ski instructors can be booked from Pod which has a booth at the base station. We were very happy with Miyuki our very patient and good ski instructor.…
Room was comfortable in a Japanese style hotel. Hotel picked us up and dropped us off from the train station. Breakfast and dinner was included in our package and was very good. Breakfast buffet menu could have done with more Western food items. Ski gear hire is available at the hotel and we thought the gear was good. Ofuro (Japanese baths) was great. Only addition that would have been good would be a gym. Overall we enjoyed the visit and the staff were courteous.
Great location for us as it was walking distance to the ski-gear rental shop we used (which had free shuttle bus service to and from Kagura), and it’s right next to the stunning Takizawa Park, which turned out to be the icing on the cake at the end of our wonderful snow trip. We booked the modern Japanese room, the facility is old but well-maintained, very clean. A nice surprise was that they already made the bed for us (futon on tatami floor) when we returned from our exhaustive snowboarding trip. Tatami floor was quite comfortable but the pillow was quite hard and high, which didn’t help after a day full of tumbles and falls. When we used the communal onsen (including the outdoor one) no one else was there and that made the experience extra personal and memorable. Shower+changing room facilities were excellent too. We booked both breakfast and dinner for our stay. Dinner was so-so (with fancy western dish names but mediocre ingredients and taste), but breakfast was gorgeous! Very traditional with a huge amount of selection of pickled vegetables and hot food options (I finished everything in the photo). They really should stick with what they are good at and let that shine. Overall a great experience into the Japanese countryside, and we’d come back again even just for the breakfast and the proximity to Takizawa Park. …
Pros: - ski in ski out to Yuzawa Kogen - hotel shuttle bus to Echigo Yuzawa train station from 8am to 9pm - extremely large room when comparing with most hotels in Japan - Indoor onsen of ~20m long (yes can swim in it) - Outdoor onsen size ~8m, one of the best of hotels near ski resorts - very clean in every parts - washroom in rooms are in a room with 3 compartment, ie bathroom, toilet and basin - my room has the view of the lower part of Yuzawa Kogen ski resort - the ski locker, ski room, heat room, are among the largest in Yuzawa ski area Cons: - the bed is a bit too soft as i tend to sleep hard mattress - the onsen is so nice that i stayed too long everyday >> we will definitely stay there again
The hotel looks worn and doubts started to creep in when we were waiting for check in at the lobby. + To be fair, the room is clean and the Japanese room very spacious. + And despite the little English language staff members spoke, service was always obliging and very pleasant. + Complimentary shuttle service from/to JR Echigo-Yuzawa, so that you don’t have to lug your bags 8 minutes up a steep slope. + Onsen is complimentary, no added fee. + We paid for breakfast, which turned out to be the Japanese traditional sort. - This hotel serves local clientele, which makes it difficult for them to entertain complex queries or provide a local insight to the town. - TV channels are all local Japanese and the facilities are very basic. Not suitable for those who need their creature comforts like foreign viewing channels + well appointed toiletries. With sundown as early as 4pm, one would struggle to keep the kids entertained. - Very limited food options. We had to walk out every lunch and dinner to find little restaurants lining the streets. The walk out is fairly quiet and cold. Not suitable for families with young children. - Although this property advertises ski-in, ski-out options, there is very limited snow play areas for children. We were told sternly by an old Uncle (doesn’t look like hotel staff) who insisted our kids cannot play outside the hotel porch and wanted us to pay ¥500 per pax to enter his fenced area just to toboggan down a small pathetic slope. You can take the Yuzawa Kogen Ropeway up the hill (¥2000 per adult, ¥1000 per child above 6, return) and there are powder snow areas for younger kids to hang out at. Food is expensive uphill - our lunch of a pizza, a pasta, hot stew and 2 cakes (no drinks) costs us ¥7200+. …
