It was our first time stay Shousenkaku Kagetsu. We went in late Dec 2024. The hotel is near Yuzawa station, so you can easily get there. The hotel is spotless and lovely. We booked the modern room, which was so neat, tidy and beautiful. The hotel staff were extremely helpful and welcoming. When we arrived, they helped us to clean our suitcases and gave us welcome drinks and snacks. Our whole stay at the hotel was delightful. The breakfast was traditional Japanese food, and the dinner was exceptional. At night there was happy hour, free flow of local sake and tea. The onsens were fantastic. They have a shuttle bus to take you to the station or if you wish you can take the local free shuttle bus just right outside the hotel to certain snow resorts. The hospitality of this hotel is absolutely top-notch. We accidentally left our house keys at the hotel when we left. The hotel helped us post our keys back in our country. We had a wonderful stay; in fact, it was the best hotel we stayed in on our 2 week trip to Japan. We definitely will come back again.

Stayed here for 2 nights. Location was convenient and room was comfortable. Service was fantastic. When I returned the rental car, the shuttle bus driver took his own initiative to go to the rental car place to pick me up because it looked like it was about to rain! I hope to return to stay during winter.

Once we arrived the hotel, they offered a welcome drinks and snack to each of our family members. They keep a high hygiene standard that all guests need to change their shoes to thier slippers started from you entered the lobby, they will keep your shoes at the lobby until you are going to leave. The room is clean and in new status which is very comfortable. We ordered the room with dinner and breakfast, the food standard and their service quality are very nice. Moreover, both of the meal were not buffet style and is Japanese cusin. We only did not satisfy the size of the public onsen area, it is not big enough actually.

Ask me what is good about Shosenkaku Kagetsu... Everything! We arrived in a town covered with 4 meters of snow. It was beautiful. Tomoko welcomed us even before we left Malaysia and with each email, we couldn't wait to get there sooner. We wanted to experience the whole Japanese culture and we couldn't have asked for more. The ryokan was beautifully built. We slept in a room with tatami mat flooring and yet it was well insulated. We were provided with Yukata and we were more than happy to wear that while we were in the ryokan. Tomoko taught us how to wear it properly as everything has meaning. It was pleasantly warm every where. The attached bathroom and bath tub was very clean. The onsen was beautifully designed and well maintained. We tried every single one of them including the private ones. Being in the open air onsen during winter is heaven. The Japanese breakfast was a delight and there goes our weight watcher program. You can purchase from Tomoko a full day pass to Kogen Yuzawa for snowboarding at a discounted price. It was less than 5 minutes walk to the Kogen. We loved the place so much that we did not want to leave. Our daughter kept asking when we are going back to Shosenkaku Kagetsu. We left our hearts there. Domo arigato Tomoko-san and team.
The only thing that we did not like was leaving...

Certainly the the best Ryokan I’ve stayed in Japan compared to the ones I stayed in Hakone.
- price isn’t excessive - feels more like a home than a hotel, everything is well appointed - quaint on the outside, very homey and beautiful on the inside - extremely clean - love the welcome tea & snacks - beautiful public onsen (complimentary for guests) with an option for a private one (with charge) - about 8 mins to the closest convenience store - less than 10 min walk to the station - numerous restaurants dotted around the hotel - extremely generous & polite staff, some of whom can speak good English - Bus stop for Free shuttle bus to Gala Yuzawa ski resort at the doorstep of the hotel
It was my family’s first trip to Yuzawa. We will certainly be back and Kagetsu will be the first choice!

I stayed in this lovely ryokan style hotel for 3 nights while attending the Fuji Rock festival. The hotel is located very close to the train station Echigo-Yuzawa, which makes it very convenient for the transfer bus to Naeba resort. Our rooms were immaculately clean and comfortable. Staff took care to explain everything to us and showed us how to wear our yukata for the onsen and breakfast. They offer both western and Japanese style breakfast. Both were delicious and served in beautiful private rooms. Every evening we would arrive back from the festival at 3am and staff woudl be awake and provide a late night snack of onigiri. We were allowed to use the onsen as late as we wanted which was very soothing and peaceful. I cannot think of anything that I would change about this beautiful ryokan. They were lovely and attentive and kind to us at all times. Amazing service.

Clean n Spacious room. Friendly staff. We opted to pay 1080 yen for 50mins of private onsen. It has indoor n a small outdoor bath. Rather small but for 2 of us is ok. Kaiseki dinner we had better ones at Mt Fuji but u get what u pay for so is still tastes delicious. They arranged for transport to the train station even though shosenkaku kagetsu is a 5 mins walk. Many shops n restaurants outside the ryokan. We paid about 38000 plus yen considered reasonable.

It was a small hotel but very homey it was just walking distance from Echigoyizawa station, they had free onsen and private onsen too, me and my children tried the free onsen outdoor and indoor and we loved it. The staffs were very helpful. The room and bathroom were very clean. The breakfast was over my expectation, it was very nice. They also had garden that was covered in snow, what a view! There were free shuttle busses to and from Echigoyuzawa train station to the ski resort Gala Yuzawa. Since my shinkanzen was very early in the morning the hotel arranged a bus that took me and my family to the station.

The place is warm, clean, well kept & convenience. We stayed in Tachi room for 2 nights in February 2016 and all mini bar item is free. Staffs are nice and the General Manager is fluent english speaker. The massage chair in room is really comfortable and relaxing. However, water temperature of in room private bath is not hot enough.

My family of 4 just came back from 4 nights stay at this wonderful Japanese ryokan. Their service is excellent despite there is only 1 better English speaking staff but there is not much problem at all. We were picked up by ryokan staff within minutes upon arrival at Echigo-Yuzawa station. Once you stepped into the ryokan, a sweet aroma will greet you, after which we had to change our shoes into their slippers before we can enter into the reception area. Hot green tea, Apple juice and biscuits were served to welcome us. Then the friendly hotel staff showed us around the ryokan and explained to us how to wear yukata in our room. The room is actually very spacious by Japanese standard, it's very clean and well maintained. The traditional bedding was so comfortable and warm that we did not want to wake up every morning! We loved most was the thoughtful service provided during winter season, Wellies, we could use them for free whenever we want to go out, it was so convenient and easier to walk in snow! You need to come and experience for yourself their warm greetings, attentiveness and great service! We would not forget our wonderful stay here. 😃 👍

"They speak a bit of English, so do be patient with them and tell them with simple english what you want and I'm sure they would be super accommodating."
