Once we arrived the hotel, they offered a welcome drinks and snack to each of our family members. They keep a high hygiene standard that all guests need to change their shoes to thier slippers started from you entered the lobby, they will keep your shoes at the lobby until you are going to leave. The room is clean and in new status which is very comfortable. We ordered the room with dinner and breakfast, the food standard and their service quality are very nice. Moreover, both of the meal were not buffet style and is Japanese cusin. We only did not satisfy the size of the public onsen area, it is not big enough actually.
Clean n Spacious room. Friendly staff. We opted to pay 1080 yen for 50mins of private onsen. It has indoor n a small outdoor bath. Rather small but for 2 of us is ok. Kaiseki dinner we had better ones at Mt Fuji but u get what u pay for so is still tastes delicious. They arranged for transport to the train station even though shosenkaku kagetsu is a 5 mins walk. Many shops n restaurants outside the ryokan. We paid about 38000 plus yen considered reasonable.
its a mid size ryokan within walking distance to Shinkansen as well as yuzawa Kogen ski resort. the rooms are spacious and the staff is friendly. the onsen gets switched around daily (male & female) so you can enjoy both locations. the private onsen is also nice with a small outdoor bath
Certainly the the best Ryokan I’ve stayed in Japan compared to the ones I stayed in Hakone. - price isn’t excessive - feels more like a home than a hotel, everything is well appointed - quaint on the outside, very homey and beautiful on the inside - extremely clean - love the welcome tea & snacks - beautiful public onsen (complimentary for guests) with an option for a private one (with charge) - about 8 mins to the closest convenience store - less than 10 min walk to the station - numerous restaurants dotted around the hotel - extremely generous & polite staff, some of whom can speak good English - Bus stop for Free shuttle bus to Gala Yuzawa ski resort at the doorstep of the hotel It was my family’s first trip to Yuzawa. We will certainly be back and Kagetsu will be the first choice!…
Our family of 5 stayed in a traditional room with attached bathroom at Shosenkaku Kagetsu. The ryokan and room were a bit tired and old, but the smiles and service from the heart were just brilliant. All our requests via email were adhered to. Down to dietary requirements for meals. Kagetsu is located conveniently in Yuzawa town. They sent a shuttle van to Echigo Yuzawa train station, as soon as we asked the Tourist Information Centre to place the call. We had kaiseki dinners which were served in a private dining room. Beakfasts were served in the same room. Dinners were interesting and mostly tasty. Kids were a bit hesitant to try though. You win some, you lose some. Our western breakfasts were more than enough to fuel us through our skiing days. One of our kids fell sick when we arrived. The staff noticed that only 4 of us appeared for dinner. They enquired the reason and quickly prepared an ice pillow for our son to lower his fever. We were very touched by the thoughtfulness of Kagetsu’s staff. Kids were keen to try onsen but only if it was private onsen. Kagetsu had both public and private onsens. A 50 min session in the private onsen cost ¥1800 not including taxes. Our 13yo son managed to book sessions even with his limited Japanese. The front desk staff were very patient with him. Thank you, Kagetsu, for a most enjoyable stay in Yuzawa :) …
Staying here for New Year snowboard in Yuzawa. Great service from the front desk. Bring you to the room and explain everything. For tourists please note shoes need to be left at the door, only slippers or socks in hotel. Room is really big and comfortable. Amazing views of the snow. Great onsen indoor outdoor pools, changing overnight between men and women so both get to experience all pools.
We visited Yuzawa Machi for the second time after a satisfying ski trip last year. We like this little country as it is just 1.5 hour away from Tokyo, while we can do a nice ski trip and no need to fly all the way to Hokkaido for similar experience. We love this little nice Ryokan as it provides a Japanese traditional homey feeling for us. Great way to have a closer experience of the culture and tradition. The service is wonderful with a very nice staff who can speak English sufficiently. Cleanliness is as great as you can expect in Japan. Room is really big with a nice view of snowy mountain. We stayed at the third floor, and we booked two rooms though no connecting room for me and my children. My children are 13 and 10 years old so it is ok for me. In house dining was a little bit pricey so we dine out at restaurants that are many, just outside the hotel. They have public bath which was very nice and clean, as well as private bath. Very conveniently located, 5 min walk from the train station, surrounded by many eating places around the hotel, close by the ski rental places, as well as very close to ski resort like Ishiuchi, and Gala Yuzawa. Lovely and convenient place, certainly will be back again!…
We selected Shosgenkaku Kagetsu to celebrate my wife's birthday due to it's proximity to Tokyo, which is about 1.5hours shinkansen rode from Tokyo Station. The hotel is located at main onsen street and about 5 minutes walk from the Echigo Yuzawa train station. Very convenient. They provide free shuttle to pick you up at the station. The service is of very high Japanese standard and they have good english speaking staff. It is a mid-size ryokan with 2 public bath and also private bath. We stayed at the top most floor, which has on-suite onsen. The room is big, 57m2 and the amenities are plentiful. The minibar is stocked with free Japanese beers (3 bottles), japanese sake, and water. The minibar was the most well stocked one out of many ryokan that we have stayed before. The ryokan is located at higher ground and hence, our room can have the panaromic view of the snowy mountains. We have our private dinner and breakfast in our private dining room which is next to our room. Both dinner and breakfast were very good, the chef had utilised all the native Niigata prefecture's ingredients. One of a nice touch is the hand painted ingredients guide of the dinner, which we took back as a souvenir. I have tried both the outdoor onsen, is not too big and the onsen water is not too hot or sulfurous. For international travellers want to try the experience of ryokan, this Hotel is a great choice.…
It was a small hotel but very homey it was just walking distance from Echigoyizawa station, they had free onsen and private onsen too, me and my children tried the free onsen outdoor and indoor and we loved it. The staffs were very helpful. The room and bathroom were very clean. The breakfast was over my expectation, it was very nice. They also had garden that was covered in snow, what a view! There were free shuttle busses to and from Echigoyuzawa train station to the ski resort Gala Yuzawa. Since my shinkanzen was very early in the morning the hotel arranged a bus that took me and my family to the station.
Excellent location with a shuttle stop right at the front door. Very good breakfast and super helpful staff. They were more than accommodating in helping us with reservations at local restaurants. Multiple staff spoke some English so that was no problem at all. Definitely recommend if skiing at Gala or Kagura.
