Booked a last minute ski trip to max out our "18 kippu" travel tickets, and just happened to pick this ryokan because of proximity to Gala Yuzawa Ski Resort, and the fact it had a highly rated onsen. And boy, were we glad we did. Now the ryokan (inn) is an old, historical place, make no mistake about that, but...

Very old and run down, staff are half hearted to serve. Location is far from town, and it's a steep walk up the hill to reach the hotel. They do have shuttle service but it is till 6pm only. We paid ¥21,000 for a room with no meals here, I would go back to Hatago Isen anytime for the same...

Can't quite verify if the place really is 800 years old as claimed but what I can say is that it was a brilliant experience there. Very close to the Gala Yuzawa resort (first stop on the free shuttle) and the size of the accommodation as well as hospitality is brilliant to say the least. Very roomy and spacious ryokan...

One of my wish list is to feel real snow world and its atmosphere, described in the famous Nobel literature award novel, <Snow Country>, written by Yasunari Kawabata. It’s first sentence, “The train came out of the long tunnel into the snow country.” was like a dream for a long time to me. This January, I took a Joetsu Shinkansen...

The staff amazingly helpful, they have an excellent shuttle service to take you to the various resorts near Yuzawa. Also the history of the Ryokan Is amazing and the museum inside is very interesting. There is a nice common area with fast Wifi too. We...

My boyfriend and I have just come back from staying 4 nights in Yuzawa and would highly recommend the Takahan hotel. We arrived late at night, but the man on reception was very helpful and spoke very good english, helping us to our room, giving us cups of noodles and discussing ski plans for the following day. The room was...

A fully satisfying experience. The staff is attentive and friendly. The needs of the guests are understood. The logistics is good with pick up and dispatch to various locations for ski or trekking. It is a traditional house, spacious and even with wireless access in the lounge. It is not a fancy 1st class recently build facility, still the experience...
