Stayed during the ski season despite the lack of snow. We booked a deluxe twin with breakfast. 3000 Yen pp give or take for a 5 course dinner that alternates Japanese and Western. ROOM The room was spacious for Japanese standards. We booked a deluxe room however decor and layout wise it was still a bit basic. We either were... More

This was my first time at Shiga. Unfortunately the season was poor in terms of snow for there but still good for an intermediate level skier used to Australian conditions. The hotel is truly ski-in/out as even in this poor season we could end the day right at the front door! We stayed for 6 nights. Ski hire is available... More

We hesitated to write this review as we would like to keep the secret of the Hotel Alpenburg to ourselves! However, that would be a disservice to the father and son that own and operate this Hotel and work so hard. The service starts when they pick you up from the Hasuiko Ski Area where the bus from Nagano Station... More

My wife and I recently spent nine nights at this hotel , the location is first class straight on the ski fields with easy access to a number of runs , the main issue is that there is nothing else around , just three other similar self contained hotels, no where else to go at night for a drink or... We chose this hotel because of the good reviews that were said about it. The reviews boasted about the dinner meals and they certainly weren't wrong. The dinners here were exceptional, and were a welcome treat after a long day of skiing. The dinners alternated between a western and a japanese night. Breakfast was ok but short on options for... This is our second visit to Hotel Alpenburg. The rooms are very clean and the location fantastic - ski in- ski out. Each night the food varies between Western and Traditional Japanese. This was a real treat. The highlight of course is the onsens - pure heaven after a day's skiing. We even had a snow monkey visit us on... More

Staying at the Alpenburg was a truly wonderful experience for first time visitors. The rooms were warm and clean, serviced daily and the meals were exceptional. Mr Kodama and his son Yoshi were great hosts and nothing was too much trouble for them, as were the rest of the hotel staff. Will, an Australian lad was extremely helpful and the... More

Hotel Alpenburg is a great place to stay if you are looking for a place away from it all. The hotel is at the base of the giant ski run at Shiga kogen. Do not stay here if you are looking for night life or even a bar as there isn't one. You can buy drinks at the hotel restaurant... More

Amazing mountain view, sometimes you may see monkeys in the snow moving around outside the hotel area. Brilliant hot spring, especially while snowing time, the outdoor hot spring is beautiful, good experienced. Nice food in their restaurant with excellent service. They also have a bar in the 1st floor. A mini snack store is located at the ground floor (if... More
