Amazing mountain view, sometimes you may see monkeys in the snow moving around outside the hotel area. Brilliant hot spring, especially while snowing time, the outdoor hot spring is beautiful, good experienced. Nice food in their restaurant with excellent service. They also have a bar in the 1st floor. A mini snack store is located at the ground floor (if... More

This is our 4th trip to Shiga Kogen and our first time staying at the Alpenburg. A gorgeous cosy little place with very friendly and helpful staff. Thank you to William, our Aussie friend who was working there and helped us out a few times :) Rooms were lovely & warm with great views either side. We were on the... More

We stayed here for one week in January for skiing. It really is a ski-in, ski-out hotel and if you are lucky the snow monkeys might be on your balcony. Owner and his son are lovely and very helpful. The indoor pool and sauna is great after a day skiing. The Onsens were also great and it was lovely having... More

Stayed for five nights. Our room had a view of the ski hill just outside our window. The service was great, the food great, the skiing great. I rang from Nagano and informed the manager I would be on a certain bus. When we arrived at the local bus depot he was there to pick us up and transported us... More

We stayed here for one week in Feb 2015. We arrived after 40cm of snow to the hotel right on the ski slope. Efficient check in with the manager who speaks quite good English. Rooms very clean and comfortable if a bit warm. Serviced every day with clean towels and sheets. Some western visitors but more Japanese which makes for... More

We stayed for 6 nights overall. Initially booked for 3 nights stay. As I am a non skier, the view from room watching the skiers coming down the slopes each day was entertaining. Dinner was very formal, each night rotating between Western and Japanese. Western meal was 5 courses. We enjoyed the dinners tremendously that we extended our stay for... More

We stayed one night for our trip in January. The hotel locates near Takamagahara Ski Area (高天ヶ原マンモススキー場). You can go to different ski area via 3 lifts which kust next to the hotel. The room is adequate for two people with two single beds. The dinner we had is western food and the food was very good as other people... More

My son and I had planned to stay 5 nights at Alpenburg, and we enjoyed our stay so much, we extended one more night. We went ahead of the ski season and many of the ski fields were not fully operational, but every morning, Kodama-san and his son/manager Yoshihiro-san checked which lifts were open, and drove us to whichever ski... We stayed here in January 2014, it is isolated and quiet, its a good chance to relax, enjoy amazing 5 course meals and catch up on some reading. It is definitely a place the locals stay, and it is typically a Japanese Ski area. Could get a little boring for kids as the Apres Ski is limited.
